🐾 Planet Zoo: Southeast Asia Animal Pack arriving 30 March 🐾

Honestly it looks fine. It's just the ears. I've compared the PZ screenshot to the many real life pictures posted and the ears are really the only part of it that are grotesquely wrong. The shape and texture need some fixing but in that case it's no worse than any other animal that isn't quite perfect in the game. The ears, though, look like the person who designed it just glanced at a binturong's ears and assumed the tufts were...hoods? A second set of ears? Not sure, but if they fixed that, the whole thing would probably come together a lot more smoothly.
Well, on top of the ears, the body is way too chonky/fat. The eyes are not cloudy enough. The texture doesn't look bad but the fur is just too "cute" and fluffy" instead of rough and messy. Binturongs are somewhat scary creatures. This model couldn't even scare a 1 year old baby. In fact, maybe that's the problem: they wanted to make a binturong cuter than it really is.
But yeah, the ears is the worst part, I agree with that.

I think it looks fine/ It looks like one minus the tufts they need to fix those ASAP. The left looks more accurate then right. It could be little more skinnier. Over all its not that bad people sheesh. It might look totally fine in game

The only redeeming parts this creation has is that it's some what long enough and has black fur. But even then, they didn't even give any white coloration to the underside or belly, which many bearcats have in some capacity. Another flaw in this monstrosity.

I don't even care it's the same rig. Modders can do good looking sharks out of the caiman (though the swimming is off of course), a Binturong that is modeled out of a Red Panda does not need to share it's face.

I always said I prefer official animals over mods because they are of higher quality. With this I'm impressed it even got though quality control. This is not the level of quality I am used to by Frontier and I know there are some not-perfect animals. But this quality is a no-go for me and hopefully a one-time mistake that they fix.

Well I guess we now know why it wasn't in the trailer.

I am considering not buying this pack at launch, and that would be a first for me. They at least need to come out and explain what went wrong and if they might look into it again. I am okay with them taking a half year to fix it or whatever, I just want to know it will happen. When they trade out around 200 pieces of scenery + foliage for 3 animals, they need to be of a decent quality.

Of course if this is somehow just a very unlucky picture, I will change my mind

The longer I dwell on this, the worse it looks. After seeing the genuinely breathtaking sun bear, clouded leopard, proboscis monkey, and leaf insect, I thought that the binturong should've been an easy slam dunk but that couldn't be further from the case. I'm part of the group who were looking forward to binturongs as probably my most wanted and favorite realistic animal addition, and now I'm also part of the group who wouldn't have been able to say with confidence that this model is supposed to be a binturong if I didn't know better. I think it's hands down, unambiguously, the worst model they've shown us in this game. And that's such a huge disappointment, because I know Frontier is capable of so much better, we all do.

This doesn't look like a binturong. The biggest part of that, for me, has to be the overall shape of the head, its lack of angularity. This model's face is too round, too conventionally cute. It looks like a binturong teddy bear. Their heads should be shorter, with much more pronounced and awkward snouts. The whiskers, despite being far more prominent than most in game species, still don't seem nearly prominent enough. The eyes are too clean and teddy bear-esque. The ears... everyone else has spoken to death about the ears. I definitely agree. But honestly? I could probably ignore the ears, and the fur not being quite right, and them being too chubby, as long as the head looked right. As it stands, this really does look like a modder's first effort in turning a red panda into a binturong. I was more than willing to accept that our misgivings about the tapir were based on weird angles being caught in weird places in their animation, and reserve final judgment until we see them in game. But there's no camera tricks going on here, there's no room for misinterpretation. This binturong model is bad.

I hope this isn't coming across as too pointedly negative. I'm saying this all from a place of genuine love for the game, and for animals, and for Frontier as a dev. It's just very disappointing that the animal I was looking forward to most comes out like this. I'll still buy the DLC, of course. I'm still excited for it, and still ecstatic that we're actually getting more animals. But as it stands, I don't think I'll be using these binturongs in my zoos. And that's arguably the worst possible outcome this DLC could've had, even worse than not including them at all.

I'm not seeing the problem here. The eyes are further apart, the snout is longer and narrower, the ears are further down the sides of the head which is also narrower than the red panda.

I mean, I'm never one to shill for Frontier. I was never going to buy this pack at launch anyway (too many other games I want to buy/play at this time of the year), but I don't see how this is any worse than how the hyena looks compared to real hyenas, or the miniaturised Bactrian camel, the cartoony-looking lion, the incredibly fat brown bears, and so on. It's definitely not perfect, I'm not saying it is, but I don't think it's as bad as everyone is saying it is. The ears are definitely the biggest issue.

I will reverse my judgement until I see the binturong in game. Does not seem as bad to me as to some other people, might be a weird angle, the one on the left is not as fluffy.
I like the whiskers and overall the fur looks good.

There is no waiting in this one FoxyDee, this is as bad as it comes, there is absolutely no excuse here, they dropped the ball. There is only so much a picture can get wrong, I mean, this is not that. I'm calling now, I gave them the benefit of the dough with the Malayan Tapir, I will take that back now, it was not the picture either, it is just another bad model. One DLC, one artist for all the animals, they are a multi million dollar company, not a small studio, they have quality control and other ways to deal with shortcomings, use them.

This.. The ears are not the worst for me, its how it doesnt look like a binturong, especially the head.

I'm in shock you can not see the problem, you are a zoo professional, even if artistic inclination is not your thing, you should be able to recognize everything that is wrong with it. Would love to hear the opinion of any zookeepers, animal experts, etc in this forum, I know we have a few, there is a female player in here that is a veterinarian, there is another gentleman that has a master in zoology, there is a character illustrator that specializes in animals, please state your opinions. We do not need a divided forum on this one, if you have a problem with the Binturong, please let Frontier know now.

So the ears are super strange indeed and it looks too fluffy, but I'm very willing to blame a lot on the angle, the movement captured in the picture and the grinning expression the one in the front is showing in that moment. The animal in the back looks less chunky and more "stretched" out, so I think it's definitely worth waiting to see it moving and from all angles. While I tend to say it looks less "on point" than the other animals in the pack, I won't judge it as a failure at all (and surely not until I watch it in game).

I am looking at this rig and still can’t figure it out. I think it could be improved somehow because it’s something still wrong with it. I hope they will make it better somehow.

But I’m not so radical as some of my colleagues here.

Let’s not over exaggerate. It is what it is. I hope they won’t make that mistake again and in game Binturong will look much better than on this one published photo.

So many people talk about this animal now that I will definitely use it first when it’s released and before it was very indifferent for me.
