🐾 Planet Zoo: Southeast Asia Animal Pack arriving 30 March 🐾

I don't understand all these criticisms.
Probably the only thing to correct should be the tufts of hair on the ears (which are not there), the rest of the body is beautiful, in my opinion it is still a very difficult animal to make.
Before every judgment we must prove it ingame.

I don’t even know where to begin.

The ear tufts appear to be behind the ears instead of part of them, giving the illusion of them having two sets of ears. They’re entirely too fluffy and fat (which frontier have struggled with doing to other animals as well. The whiskers are not nearly as pronounced as they should be.

I was very afraid they would just use the red panda rig and model and call it a day, and seeing this I’m afraid that’s exactly what they did. If you go back and look at Frontier’s binturong in 2013 Zoo Tycoon, it’s literally just a black colored red panda.

I am not joking when I say I’m very upset by this. They’ve completely bungled my favorite animal.

It looks so bad. Like, I am actually very upset by this. It’s like they didn’t even try.
I’m really sorry for you because I know how much you probably counted on this one.

Overall they have captured the eyes and maybe the overall shape of the head but second pair of ears instead of ear hair and body looks kind of shapeless and stocky.
I am far from whining and I really like it anyway but I can really identify myself to what you must feel right now.

But the one that licks the paw looks super cute.

Let’s love our Binturongs like we do with cranky puppies and kittens šŸ˜‹

Overall I think it looks pretty good. The ears may not be perfect but it’s definitely a binturong. I like it overall. My favorite animals the lion and like many to me there’s something off about the mane but at different angles it looks very good.

The overall head shape is too rounded, particularly around the bottom jaw area. Their faces are more triangular in shape especially from a front view, and being related to civets the body should be more slender, it's the shaggy fur that has volume, not necessarily the animal itself. I know they have problems with shaggy fur in their engine (see orangutan) so I understand. Not trying to complain, just giving constructive feedback.

It's a good binturong, also the mustache are very good. I repeat that the only error is the ear that are't fluffy and hairy.

I respectfully disagree - not about the part about you liking it of course, you're free to do that. But the head looks nothing like the head in real life.

For the moment we have only a static pic, we can't know how they are and they move ingame. If you see a real picture, in some they seem thin and in others fat, so not all specimens are alike.

I don't usually give my opinion until the game is released and I can check it myself, but I have to say that it's the first time that I've seen an animal image released and I have thought there's something wrong with it. I don't know what it is, but I my first thought was "why does it have so many ears?" Hopefully it's just a bad screenshot.

I'm in love with Binturong

I know this post is going to get a lot of negativity attached to it, but let me clarify this is not my intention. I absolutely love the work Frontier devs put it, day in and day out. My respect and admiration for them goes beyond anything I can say in this post and I been doing it since day one in this forum. I do also believe in honesty and airing things out, this is a time that calls for that. While there were some questions marks with the Malayan Tapir for me, I do agree that until it is released I will not know the extend of what is and what is not.

The Binturong is whole different matter, the animal is front and center, and there is no way a picture or angle can change perception that much. If you have a trained eye for animals or if you are just found out about animals thru Planet Zoo, all you need to do is google binturong and you can see it for yourself. This is not it, in no way shape or form, and since the base game, no animal has been this off. To Frontier's credit, a Binturong seems to be an extremely difficult animal to capture virtually for reasons unbeknownst to me. I have modelled binturongs in clay only a couple of times and honestly did not find them challenging, other than adding the fiber fur, but that is every animal with fur.

There is a modder, that is not only extremely talented, but has spearheaded the modding movement to what is finally becoming, he attempted to create a binturong from a Red Panda, the result was a disaster in my opinion. It seems Frontier has gone the same route here, the used the Bairds Tapir for the Malayan, the Red Panda for the Binturong, made some cosmetic changes and called it a day.

The quality Frontier has been known for has been compromised in this two animals, and it does raise a problem, because all the scenery/foliage was eliminated from the pack to make way for more animals, making the argument that Frontier's models are highly superior in quality to anything that can be modded (I agree with this 100%) However in the case of this two animals they have failed, as I have now no questions that the Malayan Tapir was not an optical illusion, but the same exact situation.

Either someone else worked on this two models, or somehow the artist responsible for the other amazing animal models underestimated the time needed to perfect both of these species and had to meet a deadline. In any case this is not a good thing.

I think this is a situation where those old video previews would have been really good. Like, the background binturong looks significantly more...binturongy than the foreground one, so it's really difficult to tell just how much of the issue is a weird choice of angle for the shot.

I am also not convinced from the binturong. For me it just looks wrong compared to the real life one. It seems to me that they just "filled the real binturongs hair with body". Thats why it looks like it has two ears per side and also it looks fat. And it is much to cute, it should bei more lets say ugly in my opinion.
The other animals of the pack look great to me until now. The malayan tapir, one of my favourites, looks also good to me in the end. But I hope that frontier made it bigger than the bairds tapir. After I have Seen the binturong I am a bit worried about this.
