🐾Planet Zoo: Tropical Pack arriving 4 April🐾

After seeing the Videos I must say I am so excited for tommorow. The Lar Gibbon voices remember me at going into my local Zoo and hearing directly the Lar Gibbons. Red River Hog, so nice to have it finally, and it just Looks great. The Fossa Looks great as well. So glad to have seen them in a IRL Zoo last year. Cool, that the Asian Water Monitor can deep dive. The Sloth also Looks fantastic and has at least a Lot of different animations. I still would have favoured it as a habitat animal but I can understand the difficulties.

Further: Orang Utans unfortunately never will brachiate if it should not get a complete restauration. I think the reason Just is that its in the meantime old model just does not Work with the relatively new system of brachiation. I can imagine that some new Things just do not Work with older models.

Finally I have to say it is a very good pack in my opinion, especially animal-wise. Sure, everybody has its own favourites but at the end it is a good mixture of Overall Community wishes and a surprise animal.

I found the point raised in the dev journal very interesting around the sloths moving so slowly that due to the simulation structure in a habitat it would struggle to meet its needs without always being on the ground, and they made the choice for the WE in part to keep it climbing. 🦥

This perhaps explains why Koalas are more on the ground and don’t spend a lot of time climbing. In hindsight would Koalas have worked better in a WE like the sloths? 🐨

Yes they would have , however it comes at the cost of every Oceania player tearing my arms off for saying such
I would genuinely like them just grasping a tree in the standard exhibit box with invisible walls like the WE. Just let me plonk a few Koala down here and there in a habitat I've created. They could have 1 animation where they walk from the bottom of the tree to a food tray and back. Would be more realistic for zoo Koalas.

Our local zoo has ambassador sloths living in the WE aviary with a variety of birds. They also have a smaller exhibit about twice the size of the in-game non-we ones. The IRL sloths don't seem to do much more than sleep on their area in the larger exhibit, but it's not totally unrealistic.
I've seen a sloth in a walkthrough aviary in BIoParque Rio. It was surprisingly active, climbing at quite a high speed along the netting.

I have to say I'm quite glad with most of what I've seen so far in the videos. I'm mostly glad that the theme is actually called 'Indonesian' and not 'tropical'. It seems like a small thing, but I'm very happy to see how Frontier is getting more and more accurately into different cultures and the amount of detail in this theme is amazing.

I don't understand why river hog has the grassland biome when its range matches 100% with the tropical forests of Congo and Guinea.
Possibly because it shares habitats with grasslands animals in real zoos. Maybe frontier tried to replicate that by adding in the grassland biome.
Also quoting the Smithsonian's zoo red river hog facts "a wide, but somewhat patchy distribution, present primarily in Rainforests and adjacent  savanna." Tropical savanna woodland in africa looks very much like a grassland biome in planet zoo

Has the monitor actually been confirmed? Because it can be that nobody has actually tested it.
Only tomorrow's notes will tell is everything
@Old Country mentioned that they can't at 11:10 on the video Foxy posted above. But I belive it going to be added in one of the next updates.
Yes! Some of the people that got early access said this applies to the Siamangs too. Around 2:15, Old Country confirms it (and it is also visible in the vid).

No way a normal Sloth habitat would be this HUGE in real life, if it was not walk-through. To be clear, I am OK with the Sloth being exhibit, BUT I hate the exhibit box itself, because it is so freaking HUGE. If they added a smaller, non-walkable version, I would be totally OK with it.
What you can do is divide it into half or even quarters with mesh or something so that it looks like you have an on display part and a backstage part. I would split it Longways down the path if that's what I was going for, just use some of the non grid pieces?
