Planet Zoo - Update 1.0.3

Yes, there something realy went wrong. The food for my Gavials costs now 18k. Before the update it was just 600$. I stopped playing atm, before i go broke. :(

While the is some odd with the amount of feeds per year, the total prices per feed haven't changed.
What you see now is the price for a complete feeding of your animals . Before the patch the price was per KG, so the real costs for an animal were much higher than shown.
For a timber-wolves the keeper filled 4 KG, so you paid about 800$ for a single animal to be fed. After the patch you still pay 800$ per wolf for the feeding.

Yeah this has been explained two or three times already by Frontier on this thread, not sure why people are still bringing it up.

Hey there. The actual cost you are paying in your zoo shouldn't have changed. Prior to this update there was a visual bug which showed the food cost on the UI as much lower than you were actually being charged. It now shows the correct number on the UI but is the same amount being taken in payments from your finances.

Here it is again.

The food cost is not the problem of the financial change. It's the higher amount of refund. I checked my sandbox zoo and I have them there as well. It doesn't matter, but yeah, the bug is omnipresent.

Ok. It's just a visual bug. But then something other broke the financial system in the patch. I always made profit with my zoo. After the patch i didn't build anything. I managed my animals to have some offspring for making conservation credits. And after the patch i lost a massive amount of money. The difference in the shown food prices was obvious.

Maybe it is a part of the problem, but in my case i have a refund of 16k and a total loss of 26k. I dont know where the other 10k are gone.

I hava a Franchise zoo with around 3500 guests and around 100 animals.
As already above explained, the food costs were only a visual bug. I had a l good running zoo (around 4 million and earning tons of money with all guests super happy), and after the patch the money just went down and down. I checked where I loose money and it was on one side the refunds (check the education heatmap - every red spot makes guests unhappy, even if the overall guest happiness is green). On the other side I hadn't had enough shops at the right places - so everywhere something was damaged, I checked the guests thoughts and normally they were all thirsty or hungry, so I changed the locations of the drink shops and added more drink and food shops (and enough vendors!).
As well some minor problems (queue at the ride too long, some staff trained way too much, so too expensive as well) and too many water and energy facilities due to bad layout planning - I do not say that anyone else is doing a bad layout planning, that just might be my personal stupidity ;-)
The most thing that helped me was to reduce the amount of animals like Gorillas or Giant Pandas - I had a habitat with around 12 Gorillas...
So in the end it was way more management to do, and took me some hours to get back to earn money again :)
The zoo is running good now, and it was nice doing the management even if that's not what I normally do that often (I prefer creating ;-) ...).
I understand the frustration if you have a zoo build in a lots of hours and suddenly it runs bad, but on the other side, the management part of the game is way deeper than in other games.
I hope you all enjoy the game nevertheless and find a way to get your zoos back to a good state :)

I'm glad that you were able to save your zoo. I play in sandbox mode so money management isn't an issue. After the 1.0.3 patch I turned on permanent guest happiness but then got protesters - on a staff path. I had 27 animals give birth and babies mature in about an hour. I disabled animal welfare and had starving and severely dehydrated animals - hence the protestors. My zoo was a similar size to yours, more guests not as many animals, but is now unplayable. Whereas my game never crashed before 1.0.3 now it happens at least once a play session - in a new zoo started after the patch that is closed and paused with no guests, no staff, no animals - just a sandbox to practice building in - with a grand total of 3 buildings - nothing fancy. I don't want to rain on your parade here, I'm just pointing out that it is possible to have problems in Planet Zoo right now without it being your fault. The patch did not do the things it promised or I wouldn't have protesters - on staff paths - with maxed guest happiness or starving & dehydrated animals with animal welfare turned off. Methinks 400+ fixes in one patch was too much too fast.

I'm not a negative person, I have many praise posts on here as well and I think that Planet Zoo is going to be the best game ever for me, when it's finally finished so I can really play it. As a sandbox player I was really looking forward to the patch and I actually squealed with delight when I read the list of changes and couldn't wait to finish work and get at it. But when your zoo that you've put a hundred-odd hours into blows up it kinda sucks.

The game shouldn’t crash at all, I get that. But you say yours crashes once a play session. Prior to the game update, my game was crashing every 5-10 minutes. One time it crashed 9 times in 30 minutes!
I have just looked and I have animal welfare disabled, yet I still get notifications about starving animals, so I guess that’s not working properly yet. But I’m just glad I can play the game for longer than 5 minutes without a crash. I have just played for an hour and a half and had one crash, which was a bit frustrating as it meant I had to re-do a few things, but I can cope with one crash every so often.

I play mine on the lowest graphics setting, coz my computer isn’t the best. Is it worth trying this with yours?

No, I won't play at all if I have to use the lowest graphics settings. I built my computer just a few months ago, it's pretty high-end. Before the patch PZ never crashed. I work in a virtual world and use cpu/gpu intensive modeling software all day and my machine performs admirably as expected. It's not my computer. I know whereof I speak.

I'm now just playing in sandbox with a closed zoo and no animals saving the game every few minutes and just having fun building a few things. Building in PZ is fun and relaxing other than the crashes. I can enjoy using it like this for a while until Frontier gets their poop in a group. I'll get over the frustration of losing my zoo but I'm very wary now of starting another for fear of this happening again with the next patch. A patch shouldn't make things worse and the new features should work. I don't think that's too much to ask.

I think there is some mess with food price for animals..

Before i had 2 Grizzly bears and food showed under 300 now i have 2...and it showed over 20k ? what? :D
Me too, nearly bankrupted my franchise zoo. I'm feeding my lions 80k worth of food every feeding. I don't know how, but I'm still (barely) in the green. But I was in the red for a long time before I REALLY reduced my population. And my rides are bugged - people go on when I start the game, it fills up and then no one goes on it again and it's empty until I restart the game.
Other than that I'm good with the new update, no crashes so far (mainly playing franchise).
Few minor bugs but nothing major. As far as people complaining it's not finished or "good enough". I'd rather have it a little buggy than not out yet. Considering the progress they're making I see no issue and it's not like a physical product because this gets updated in 10 minutes whever they have a patch, if they sell you a broken phisical product (the soundbar story) and say "well yea it's just how it is, most people have that problem" (first off, don't just impulse buy) it's done, it's broken forever. But this isn't going to be, I have complete faith in frontier since I can see what a great job they've done with planet coaster. Sure, there's a minor bug here and there but who cares, where there's software there's always a bug.

Watch out! The inbreeding alert is not shown everytime (at least applies when you having a large animal roster like 100-200+ animals) right before the mating. Thus, you cannot rely on this as an inbreeding control.
Like that one to be changed very soon! (picture 1 shows already pregnant female)

I'm just wondering if it's really a bug and if they gonna fix it or not, just want to hear something from devs about that.

The prices for the animals food has always been the same. The price in the UI was wrong. Also. If you have your keepers feed your animals every month. you will go broke. Animals dont need fed every month. some only need fed once every 3 or 6 months. this game is pretty simple. I have had no problems running zoos.

Finally a game with mechanics and everyone goes nuts.... LEARN HOW TO PLAY management games then complain!
Instead of "being smart" you can normally explain , I asked a simple question, if it should be like that or it's bug. There is NOT many guids for that game yet cuz It's NEW! and not everyone spend their life knowing how every game in the world works.

Frontier Has released Game info and tips on this same forum page. People need to take the time to read it. Thats what i did.

If you're asking about the food prices, Frontier has explained in this very thread a few times now that the price of food hasn't changed. You aren't paying more per feed, you are only seeing the correct price now whereas before it was displayed as being a lot lower than it actually was.

And if your losing money to feeding. Then your feeding your animals to quickly. Most if not all the animals can be fed once every 3 to 6 months. you just have to pay attention.

I have starving and severely dehydrated animals in sandbox mode with animal welfare turned off. Feeding is set to one month. I don't care what it costs, I have unlimited money. So why are my animals starving and dehydrated? What am I doing wrong?

nothing. the game automatically calculates if animals have to be fed. The frequency of keepers visiting an habitat has nothing to do with actually feeding them. Don't rely on tips, which aren't.

I have no feeding problems if I keep the number of animals (of one species) close to the minimum number specific animals and their habitat is not too large. I have tested this approx. 100 ingame years, also before the recent patch. If I get hungry animals, I know I have to reduce their number (again).
