❄ Planet Zoo: Update 1.1.0 and Arctic Pack out now! ❄

WOW! What a massive update. Thanks Team Frontier again for your continued hard work, talent and passion you put into your games.
And I've just had a quick look at the Arctic pack. By 'eck, it's gorgeous. So many pieces that are looking really beautiful and versatile. And my word..........the aurora. That is pure art. It even moves like the real thing. It gave me real vibes and happy memories to my trips to Iceland.

Massive thanks to all you beautiful people at Frontier

I agree regarding the polar bear space requirements. We're building zoos, not wildlife reserves. Is this DLC designed to be standalone? Are we not supposed to add these animals to our zoos along with everything else?

Given how slow the game runs when you reach a certain number of species/habitats, I think requiring such an absurd (and I do say absurd and mean it literally) amount of land for the polar bear is kind of ty. Yes, zoos are trying to rectify how they hold polar bears and modernise their keeping, but not to the extent that two polar bears need more bloody land than a herd of elephants. That's ridiculous and fantastical, not realistic in the slightest.

I don't think this is ridiculous or not realistic.

Hi there. This size is indeed intentional. Polar Bears pose a difficult issue to real world zoos in that they can become unhappy and show signs of struggling if they don't have lots of land to roam around in and things to keep them from getting bored. As Planet Zoo focuses on conservation we really wanted to ensure we were keeping true to the plight of the Polar Bear in the game and showcasing the real world effort needed to care for their conservation.

And according to this site: http://www.bearconservation.org.uk/polar-bears-in-zoos/
[...] many captive polar bears manifest symptoms of extreme stress, such as continually shaking their heads, pacing up and down their enclosures or swimming in a stereotypical fashion.
Captive polar bears, along with orcas and other cetaceans, suffer from more sickness and psychologically related illness than any other animals kept in captivity. [...]
[...] a total area of at least 8,000 square metres (2 acres) per animal are, we believe, the minimum essential for high welfare standards to be maintained.[...]

So this is propably the reason why they need such a huge space.
True, it's less than the 12'000 sqm, but for me it's okay absolutely justified.

Frontier, when are you going to correct the price on your Website? It's still showing £9.99......and no I don't wish to buy off Steam.
Why won't you buy off Steam?

I've no real objection, it's just up until now I've purchased all Frontier Games/DLC's through their Website for uniformity, would not purchasing through Steam change that? If buying through Steam means it shows up alongside all other stuff on my Frontier account, then who cares right, but I'm not sure it does, anyone confirm?

Thanks for all the feedback on the Polar Bear space requirements. It is intended but we're having a look into it today!
Animals escaping needs a hotfix and no, I'm not going to post it to the Issue Tracker since there's like a billion of the same reports already. Should be known by the devs by now. :)

We are working on that one and hope to have a fix soon!

We have to send people to the Issue Tracker to log problems or upvote existing issues to help us narrow down what is happening to most players. We're doing our job, and are trying to help everyone :) thanks for understanding!

Thanks for the reply. Others have mentioned and I also feel like the Issue Tracker is not working the way it should from players perspective.

Obviously it's a great way for devs to keep track of what issues players may experience, but what should be done is have a pinned/highly visible on top of the page list of known issues / issues which are being worked on. That way we know which bigger issues the devs are aware of. I'm not talking about telling us that there will be a typo fix or tiny things like that, but bigger issues (like animals escaping due to a bug) should be somehow visible when checking out the issue tracker. On top of that, a "Known bugs list" stickied on the forum/socials would be great. Not everyone visits the Issue Tracker, but the message should be visible nonetheless.

I’m having a problem with the game. So I’ve started a new park and my first animal is the doll sheep. The thing is that the females are getting pregnant but when it comes to delivering the baby there are no babies. I even checked if they went straight to the trading center cause sometime it happens but no, two babies that should have been born have just disappeared. I have the animal ageing to 3 so I don’t know if that could be the case but no baby doll sheep for me atm...I wonder where they went

Maybe they where ? (is that a thing in Planet Zoo?)

Check the females to see if they are still expecting. With aging slowed down I get the notification of an imminent birth way, way before the birth actually happens. Same with the maturation message. I also have the aging speed set to 3.

It's a widely spread issue for people with the DLC animals. If you reload the save you will find the babies in your trade center. It has nothing to do with the speed setting.

You were right, all my 3 babies where in the trading center as soon as I reload the game! Thank you! 😌

Oh no I hope they will never implement such a thing, it would break my heart! I’m reloading the save file, someone suggested that they should appear in the trading center!

I don't think the game needs it, I was just wondering.

Strange thing to think about yes. Let's hope it's not in the game.

what does "Asitai" mean?

Asitai is my code word for Asia Taiga .. helps me identify which zoo I bred the animals in. So if you see Asitai-Aa and Asitun-Aa then they are from different families but the first family in the zoo itself. I started off with A1 for male/female parents then Aa but then got confused if I had them in multiple zoos.

Thanks for the feedback on the habitat and welfare requirements for the Polar Bears. We will be amending the requirements in Update 1.1.1 (due this week) to half of their original size. Whilst we strongly believe in the reasons behind the original numbers, we completely understand that some players, in particular our creative builders, would face too many challenges in keeping these amazing animals happy in their zoos. The new numbers will be both more in line with other large animals in Planet Zoo, and in keeping with the overall conservation message of Planet Zoo - whilst also maintaining a gameplay challenge for those who don't want it to feel too easy to run a successful zoo.

In terms of the original numbers, we did a lot of research into Polar Bear habitats – they are majestic animals that require a wide snowy area to roam, and if they have anything less, they tend to display stress behaviours and in general do not cope well with being in zoos. Planet Zoo is at its core about animal welfare, so we felt giving the Polar Bear the high space and water requirements it so desperately needs to thrive, was in keeping with the game’s main message.

We hope that the compromise is more fulfilling to all players, and you and your zoo guests can enjoy seeing these beautiful creatures in your parks.
