Off-topic: Do you think we should have a dedicated fighter in the same price range as a step up from the Eagle, but not as expensive or good as a the Viper? Maybe a Mamba, Krait or Gecko? Or maybe even the original Adder concept?
Yes, because it looked like a flying brick. They just figured that they couldn't keep the exact same feel without it being ugly.As I am sure you can see, the images from ArcElite, FE2, FFE, and the ED concept art all feel aesthetically similar
Alot of that will happen to new, "old" Ships.
Remember their original Design was not restricted by actual artist design limitatiions - but by the extremely limited amounts of Polygons the CPUs back then could draw at a reasonable framerate.
Take the current, modern "2014 Edition" of the Adder and reduce that to... let's say something like 24 Polygons. You'll see that you'd end up pretty much with something that looks just like that old Adder.
Pretty much exactly like it, to be precise.
It's unavoidable to see these things evolve and actually follow certain designs that are actually visible in lots of details now.
What was once 90 deg angles and square is now round.
What was once an untextured 2 Polygons is now a HighRes Texture with Bumpmapping, Multitexture and Shader effects, consisting of hundreds or thousands of polygons. If Tesselation is used, that could even easily go into the Millions at close view.
It's a completely normal thing to see and nothing that would require change back to the original.
Technically (no offense intended), I might wonder about all these colors on the screen and all these DirectX 11 Details on the ship, that include Dynamic Shadows and Ambient Occlusion - it's basically the same everywhere in the ELITE universe now - and request to revert to a B/W wireframe Rendering mode to get back the original feel, cause that's how it was in '84.
(although being a tech geek - that would be a nice easter egg, being able to Play E : D in B/W Wireframe Render mode *g* )

I still say ZP ships should have cat names for the most part.
Hauler should be the Bobcat (we petitioned for that when it came out)
Adder should be the Ocelot

You know, I didn't even think of that myself! I'd love to eventually get the "Concept adder" into the game, I really liked that design! Those of you who have voted 'No', did you even stop to think that you would be getting an extra ship IF they changed the name of this ship and left it in the game and brought the original Adder into the game?
That concept is almost exactly like the cockpit we have in the Adder now, with exception that this one is centered.
It looks so much better.
Where did this Adder go?
Also, I just got one of these Adder emulations and I have another complaint: What is happening with the engine sound? It feels so generic, and silent. I think the ship lacks character. It's like a Hauler but good at combat without being excellent at it. That's another problem I have: it kind of obsoletes the Hauler.

FTFY.
I voted 'No' because I think it looks like an improved version of the concept design and I don't see the point in kicking up a fuss over something so trivial.
Голосование да, давайте сохранять традиции.
If you make a game for people - please listen to them. If you made the game for yourself - why would need a forum?
