So I see where you're coming from, but if they've decided on this then fair enough, its their game.

I agree, but I don't think it's a lot to ask from them, since it's really only a small text change, and it makes everyone happy.

But I do prefer the concept to be the proper Adder. :)

The concept IS the proper Adder ;)

One thing that made me laugh about the Hauler's Fat Cousin is the fact that Adder pilots have attitudes. One came up to me in a nav Point and threatened me to drop my cargo or he'd kill me. He then proceeded to fire at my fully equipped Cobra.

If laughter was lasers I wouldn't need weapons.

:D

This image that was attached to one of the previous newsletters looks like it might be the cockpit of the adder from the concept art. I really have no idea why they scrapped so much work in favor of the new crap design.

That concept is almost exactly like the cockpit we have in the Adder now, with exception that this one is centered.
It looks so much better.

Where did this Adder go?
Also, I just got one of these Adder emulations and I have another complaint: What is happening with the engine sound? It feels so generic, and silent. I think the ship lacks character. It's like a Hauler but good at combat without being excellent at it. That's another problem I have: it kind of obsoletes the Hauler.

Thing is though they went to the trouble of retaining the original look of the Sidewinder and Cobra for example. Stands to reason that if they still look like they did from 200 odd years ago then so should the other classic ships. By all means have new ships but let us 84ers have our iconic ships re-visualised with modern graphics.

Yes, and had to endure sniping remarks about cheese wedges and boring 80's design from others...

They cannot win sadly, modernise it and make it match a design ethic from a manufacturer and endure ire from fans, make it resemble the old versions and endure remarks similar to those levelled at the Cobra and Sidewinder.

I think someone mentioned renaming it to something like Adder Mk II, that way perhaps someday they can add the original Adder back in making it match the concept much more closely.

I don't think frontier are genuinely hurt by those remarks. The cobra is iconic, and frankly, much more believable as a futuristic space ship than a lot of other designs seen in scifi.

I have the cash and its in my shipyard... Tempted

It seems to be a decent ship. Have not tried it out yet, as I reset my save just before the patch and only had about 20 minutes to play since, but it does look decent.

It does look more like a Baldrick than a (Black) Adder. :p

I agree with your argument, Zalifer.

At least it's not a thingy shaped turnip!

On topic: I do agree that it isn't what I expected the adder to be at all. I thought it would be reminiscent of a Lakon style ship not a stretched hauler. This ship is ok, but it's not an adder!

Heck, I'd like the Hauler renamed "bobcat" or "sand cat" or something. Weren't Z-P ships named after felines?

I agree with OP I hate the new Adder - complete disappointment after looking forward to another classic ship reinvented. It looks nothing like the old ship and in addition, it looks exactly like the Hauler! Very lazy and boring ship design IMO on Frontier's behalf, just to get a few more ships out quickly. Call it Hauler 2 or something instead. And if they are going to throw out dull ship designs like that, honestly, just dont bother.

No doubt about that from my point of view too, just had to point out that they are in a no-win position when it comes to aesthetics, plus the current Adder at least seems to be aimed at attracting a wider audience whilst maintaining the look from the manufacturer.

I've only had a chance to do two quick runs, like it a lot so far as its quite upgradeable and seems to be more multi-role without necessarily being a master of any of them. If and when I go bounty hunting I will more than likely dull out my upgraded Eagle and use that.

Off-topic: Do you think we should have a dedicated fighter in the same price range as a step up from the Eagle, but not as expensive or good as a the Viper? Maybe a Mamba, Krait or Gecko? Or maybe even the original Adder concept?
