Please finally address Cross Platform. We need it.

Do the different platforms utilise the same servers? I was under the opinion they didn't which was why cross play was never possible from the start. Then again, my memory could be failing and I could be completely mistaken.

I'm pretty sure there's PC players using controllers without macros that are able to spank plenty of HOTAS+ macro users. Anyway, given the complete lack of any formal PvP structure to the game, this is hardly going to be high on the list of issues.

Any cheats and macros that affect the game outside of PvP are still your problem due to the shared BGS.

Like PC and xbox/ps4 can use pretty much the same thing except for other flight sticks.

I just find it funny how on a multitude of threads we see comments relating to this not being a PvP game (it has PvP elements, but that's certainly not the focus). However as soon as we get a crossplay discussion we're usually into cheaters, macros, controllers etc., which has no bearing on anything outside PvP (or arguably anything other than ganking, as who would be involved in consensual PvP with someone who's running cheats?).

There may be technical issues, but like you I think it would be fun to wing up with players on other platforms. That would be the majority of what we'd see with this, surely.

Completely in agreement. I just want to mix with other platforms. So what if the other platforms have this and that, it will be fixed and they have to live with it anyway.

The video doesn't explicitly state it one way or the other, but I would think a sane developer would implement rules that provide apparent platform separation on top of a single platform independent back end, rather than maintain multiple platform specific production back ends that still sync over one background simulation. But I'm sure you can see the caveat there so anybody's guess really.

Doesn't matter though. In a few years Elite must be crossplatform if it wants to keep up with the video game industry as far as multiplayer game standards and best practices are concerned. Players are becoming accustomed to demand both cross save as well as cross platform. The platform is just a detail, an I/O device. Being isolated from your character because "you're on the wrong platform" or not being able to interact a unified global playerbase of any game -- these will eventually become irredeemable qualities as cross save & cross platform simply make for a better experience.

I agree with you and hope you are right.

I think it's crazy that you can't friend someone on a different platform. One side effect is that the friend's list is useless on FC's since the list is platform specific (and so are squadrons btw).

I do agree with the squadrons, may just have been a little conflict.

Not sure Cross Play is practical ...

Firstly, Sony are very reticent to allow that - a few notable recent step downs such as Fortnite notwithstanding.

Plus the potential advantage of a PC player having a decent HOTAS with access to analog controls for all flight directions, voice commands for hands free chaff/SCBs, head-tracking / VR for better visibility ... never mind frame rate ... get ganked by a PC player with those advantages when playing on PS4 with a DualShock? No thanks!!

Cross SAVE however? That I would like to see. To be able to play on PS4 but then also start building a gaming PC setup and have access to the same CMDR? I would love that. Could even dual-boot my MacBook to play on the go. Assuming I ever go out again at some point in 2021!!

Doesn't matter. The balance issues in terms of controller types aren't going to break the game. If people were truly that worried about balance, you'd see ten threads a week to make it HOTAS only. Fact is, KBM is by far the simplest and cheapest way to play and learn FA off, and allows for very fine accuracy corrections. To do that with any other control scheme requires much more practice and fine-tuning of gear.

IIRC, current consoles have both HOTAS and KBM capabilities.

I'm more worried about dirty console peasants stinking up the place. I jest...I jest...

I will repeat myself from X-box forum
"I have docked on a carrier to speed up my travel from Colonia to Bubble. I have started talking with a carrier owner via Discord and it turned out we had great time for couple of hours. Unfortunately carrier owner plays on PC and I on X-Box. If I had a chance to fly with my new friends despite of platform we use that would be awesome. Imagine events like Distant Worlds without platform barrier. Glaxay is big enough for all platform users to share it."

I agree with you but at the current moment, Xbox (not sure about ps4) does not have a Keyboard and Mouse option.

Yes both Xbox and PS4 natively support KBAM, it's up to the game to add in-game support to actually utilize it. Some games already do (e.g. War Thunder AFAIK).

...edit to clarify: So controller schemes aren't really a compelling reason against crossplay. There are PC people playing on a controller, and there could just as well be console people playing on KBAM if FDev enabled it.

People that keep saying it's up to the console makers is COMPLETELY BEHIND the times, sony and microsoft have fully grasped crossplay and there is no longer any stupid hoops to jump through to get a game to do it, it now falls squarely onto the developers.

Yes if the games can slowly integrate merging. I also believe that other Flight Sticks such as other Hotas and I believe logitech (not sure) versions should be permitted.

I would like Cross Save, but still PC having an advantage should be diminished, I believe xbox and PS4 should have these privileges as well.

Another yes for crossplay from me :)

Having a 'consoles only' Open option should mitigate concerns about cheating & macros, although in practice I don't think it's much more than an edge-case problem.
