Luxury back in my day when we mined we had to grab the rocks with our cargo scoop.
Yup, when I tried mining for the first time I was first bedazzled because the game expected me to collect every single fragment manually, and then bedazzled me even further because the rewards were an absolute pittance. I'm not talking millions, but thousands per ton. If even that. I only really got into mining when 3.0 hit (or was it 3.3?).

And no, I'm not joking for once.

50 million in less than an hour, as a general statement, is pure hyperbole and deep down you know it.

Again post the video or it didn't happen.

So yeah, really couldn't be arxed with capping a 100 gig fraps vid, re-encoding it and then uploading the reduced clip to youtube after 6 hours in the hospital on Tuesday, so sorry I didn't get back to you on that. This afternoon though, I thought I'd pop out for some mining and amazingly enough, here's me making 50m in 52 minutes as I said I can do every time I log on.

I'm going to point out that the sell price there was nothing like the maximum for platinum, which is around 295k per ton, or around 50k per ton more than I got. As for a system being close-by, it's not that close (4 jumps out, 5 jumps back) but since I was only mining a single hotspot, who cares - they're hardly rare and anybody can bookmark one so they don't have to mess around wondering where one is, plus there's a specific miner's website that lists double hotspots if a single just isn't enough for some people.

Although I certainly have mined 50m worth of stuff much faster than this on other runs, that's where the luck element comes in. The 25 min run that I mentioned for example was a glorious bit of luck. The 40 minute one I mentioned was a bit of luck, but not that much to be honest - that sort of time is quite regular. However the entire reason I said 50m in an hour was predictable and repeatable is that it is. That's the baseline that anybody can reach, as evidenced by this entirely unspectacular mining session which I told you I'd be able to achieve two days ago. The funny thing is the recent economy changes that OP was moaning about are exactly what has ensured that there are always stations available to sell platinum to at these rates. It's not like trying to sell void opals or LTDs. Really it's not; this is commonplace.

Oh and as for 'if you can do this why are all these people complaining', well some of them are trying to laser mine in metal rich ring hotspots and wondering why they aren't getting the same kind of yields, some are probably just crap at mining or have crap builds (maybe you should be asking them to make videos of what they're doing?) and some are moaning because they think 50m an hour is chump change. The last bunch, I have no idea what they consider 'reasonable' but to my mind, being able to buy the ship you just watched (with all of its A-rated gear) with two hours work seems pretty damn reasonable to me

Who says you cant break 50m/hour? Someone recently managed 1200 tons of platinum per hour. Thats over 300m per hour.

Admittedly, that's peak performance, but average players can pull half that easily.

The guy I quoted. Or at least he said it was an edge case/ outlier, not something that can be done with ease on a daily basis.

Probably worth me pointing out that I'm only doing single hotspots here - I can tear the face off the numbers I mentioned above with double or triple hotspots. Like I said, this was all about middle of the road, repeatable yields. I'm not trying to hold myself up as any kind of super-miner, quite the opposite in fact.
