Someone still had to make that input. The thought behind it is explaining why an AP would cheapen the experience. You don;t like it when other boil the argument down to the extremes, well neither do I. Input is needed to safely navigate the galaxy. I stand firm in the belief that the Commander should have to make these very simple and easy to learn maneuvers. So sue me.
Given that an Auto Pilot hasn't been suggested as standard equipment, every Commander still would need to learn those skills. If some of them would rather not do the same sequence of key presses and almost identical sequence of stick movements after getting enough credits to hire a crew-mate, or buy an auto-pilot, I say fair play to them.

I have reasons for wanting to have some kind of auto-pilot mechanism, and in my usage case, as I'd rather fill a module slot with something else, I'd be quite happy hiring a crew-mate to allow me to get on with other things on my ship, like route plotting, sending/reading messages, checking out contacts, etc.

It would enrich my gameplay to be able to do these things if I chose to do so.

Having said that, if they never get introduced to the game, *shrugs* I'll still fly my spaceship and enjoy it.

Sorry, I missed this part and this is an absolute lie. FE2 did have the scale - you never even played it did you so why are you making up things to try and defend your bad argument? How does me wtahcing netflix change the scale? Where is the logic in that? What do you think atronaughts are going to be doing on the 6 month journey to Mars?

Did you know it's an absolute fact that there isn't one person alive today that can grasp the scale of the galaxy? The "sense of scale" you feel is compeltely made up in your head and is wrong.

All you are spewing are opinions laced with vitriol. I don;t have to defend myself to you. Move along.

This is a discussion thread, nothing more. You put your opinions out there, and others do the same. If you can't handle the fact that others see things differently to you, try another way to spend your time.

I see an AP as a cheap way for some to avoid the tasks required to get around the galaxy. You have made no, none, argument to change that opinion. Try harder. Just at someone else.

Oh my god. Again?
Whats next auto trader? Auto combat?
And the argument: you dont need to buy it if its not your thing is invalid.
what the OP asks for is REDICULOUS.
This entire game is about flying around YOURSELF!
dont like it? Go play x3 where you can SETA and autopilot.
Now please stop making rediculous polls and go drive your car or bike....oh no wait you need to do stuff then..nevermind let those groceries be delivered.

Apologies in advance but these topics reaaly grinds my gears.

And answers like the one you just posted grind ours! :)

Well, with the new jumps coming in 2.2 that leave your next destination behind the star on exit of hyperspace, I think I'd prefer to line it up manually. The docking computer can't be trusted and that's why even if auto pilot for hyperspace travel was introduced as a module, I wouldn't be fitting it.

Indeed I'd also agree with that and would expect a pilot to have to do that manually because the success or failure is skill based and requires the pilots attention. If the autopilot or NPC co-pilot could take me to the neutron star that would be a good thing and if I choose to fly their myself I'd expect to arrive long before because I would be doing it optimally and efficiently. win/win good gameplay happy customers under 40 less public comment about ED being grindy etc etc

I don't know if that's a fair characterization. I was in the 70% for ship transfers but I'm now in the 30% for autopilot. I'm sure there's tons of overlap, but I'm also positive I'm not the only one.

And let's point out that other poll where 80% of people WANT an AP as long as it has the picture of a person there LOL

Good point. I'm as follows: pro Open but still a big fuzzy bear at heart; pro delayed transfer because I like balance almost as much as I like ma mursion; anti autopilot because I don't believe in watching Netflix at the same time as I'm playing the game (though I'd possibly make an exception for the Cooking Channel); and last but not least pro engineer because I'm literally addicted to all the pretty special effects on my multi cannon FdL:)

So another person with a selfish reason for not having AP. Wow, you guys are certainly coming out the wood work. Why do you care what other people are doing? Can you lot please stop sticking your noses into other people's affairs?

Maybe your afraid you'll watch NF and realise ED isn't the game of your dreams and is pretty boring?

As someone who used auto pilot religiously in FE2, I think it would be a mistake to add it to ED.
The game has evolved and our expectations should adapt too.

Why would it be a mistake?

MUST we have this poll every sodding month?

Please use the search tool in future TC, just go read an old poll.

I suggest in future you don't come into these threads then. YOU clicked on it!

Of course it's true that in the future there would be an autopilot. We have very good ones already, here on Earth. But that isn't the point, is it... I voted no in the poll, even though a part of me would love to set course for the centre of galaxy, then head downstairs to make a cup of tea, cut myself a large wedge of cake, roll something combustable, take the dog out for a     , then mooch back upstairs to find my lighter and see where my trusty autopilot-3000 has got me. But how is that fair on all the intrepid explorers who've gone half space-mad trying to plot the universe for us all? I know the game is set in the future, but whats wrong with holding on to a bit of the past and dealing with deep space like those great maritime explorers such as Vasco de Gama, James Cook or William Adams? Hard work and danger.

You'd come back to a ship with no fuel.

Seems like the No's have it, sanity prevails. I wish life had an auto-pilot so i could stay in bed...........[zZzZz]

So it's insane to ask for something we have in the real world? Considering the NO side don't have an argument at all, I'd say it's the yes side that holds the sanity here and I think we've demonstrated this in this thread by providing intelligent posts over some, quite frankly, insane and outright stupid ones :p

You are not the arbiter of logic, you simply don;t agree. I can live with that.

I have previously answered for the Docking Computer, keep up and you'd know what was said.

The very fact you just said that proves you do not know what logic is. Your arguments thus far have been vapid and nonsensical and circular.

Can you respond intelligently at all in this thread? You are making things up to fit your own fantasy argument. You can see things differently but if by differently with no good argument because you're selfish, then your "view" doesn't count.

Agree, and not so long ago I did a flight from Heathrow to Dubai in real time in Prepare3D.

That was about 7 - 8 hours I don't remember precisely. However 95% of the flight was on AutoPilot. So what did I do during those 7 - 8 Hours while the airplane was flying? well I looked at the scenery, flipped some switches, listen to music, made sure my passengers was happy, talked on the radio with some mates of mine, checked the FD forums :) HOWEVER I had a good time.

I touched down in Dubai as planned, and had a good flight executed just as I planned it, to the letter.

All the work you do are BEFORE you even take the aircraft up in the sky, after that it's just plain management.

Yes I would still like a Auto Pilot in ED, because it will make ME have more quality gaming in ED. The best part it will not effect anyone else but the user.

No on a general flight autopilot. However, I would like the docking computer to also handle leaving the station.

We should remove it, you're the pilot of your ship you shouldn't be lazy and have to actually land it yourself. I dont like others using it, it really disrupts my gameplay.

Mine too and it should be a commander flying the ship not a stupid computer doing it. I hate how some people have a DC right now it's so selfish of them how they're ruining our gameplay. ARRRGGGHHHHH it winds me up so much I have to do another poll now,.....

Twice as many people say no as say yes. Time to close the thread and wait for a month for the same topic to come up yet again and with the same result.
