Given that an Auto Pilot hasn't been suggested as standard equipment, every Commander still would need to learn those skills. If some of them would rather not do the same sequence of key presses and almost identical sequence of stick movements after getting enough credits to hire a crew-mate, or buy an auto-pilot, I say fair play to them.Someone still had to make that input. The thought behind it is explaining why an AP would cheapen the experience. You don;t like it when other boil the argument down to the extremes, well neither do I. Input is needed to safely navigate the galaxy. I stand firm in the belief that the Commander should have to make these very simple and easy to learn maneuvers. So sue me.
I have reasons for wanting to have some kind of auto-pilot mechanism, and in my usage case, as I'd rather fill a module slot with something else, I'd be quite happy hiring a crew-mate to allow me to get on with other things on my ship, like route plotting, sending/reading messages, checking out contacts, etc.
It would enrich my gameplay to be able to do these things if I chose to do so.
Having said that, if they never get introduced to the game, *shrugs* I'll still fly my spaceship and enjoy it.
