Polygon and Twinfinite interviews - more Odyssey details, unknowns, and Walking-In-Ships not at launch

Did they mention anything about minimal PC requirements upgrading? The new tech looks a lot more demanding..

So in the future you might get inside spaces, but not right now.
The Leak was right .... Base Building was a thing, but now the Bases are being built by FD, not by us. Some of that might change later, but that's speculative, because they don't seem too sure about the gameplay features associated with these. It sounds like we will access a bulletin board on a screen in the social space or space port (as before), except an NPC might speak to us as we stand there ... that would be cool, but might get tiresome after a short while.

Irrespective if what is or isn't in at launch, I'm still excited to see this new content. It'll be another (literal) step forwards in the game's evolution. The new visuals look great.

I like it(yes, much will be missing) so near Odyssey launch I will prep my FC for exploration :)
Fill her with Trit & see what I can find. FC haters : Odyssey should free up the bubble for you :D

With a launch date only a few months away (assuming early 2021), I worry the end result will be a rushed, half-baked, buggy mess.
I have to say that's my worry as well, especially considering in what kind of limbo of "soon we will have new content" the game has been lately.

What worries me is how much of this game is "undecided", along with the fact that it's still in pre-alpha. With a launch date only a few months away (assuming early 2021), I worry the end result will be a rushed, half-baked, buggy mess.
The pre-alpha footage is not a concern for me - it's just what they have rendered with and I am sure at this stage it is beyond that.

The undecided stuff is a more concerning though.

.....and depending on what year the NMS video is from they also show gameplay impossibilities.

Sorry I know needling NMS is low hanging fruit but really what's more to discuss when all your arguments consists of frontier forum tropes like 100 devs and NMS comparisons.
How about the last two years? NMS is a younger game, but let's go with just two years back. Now if we were comparing ED's videos as brand new game with NMS videos when it was a new game, then I'd say you might have a valid point, but we're not and you don't. Furthermore, NMS videos are actually built from real game play, unlike the ED videos which show you experiences that never happen in the game and don't show you the experience you'll spend most of your time doing (super cruise and jumping between systems anyone?). I don't care for NMS, but their hype videos are done well. I'm just offering ways I think would help build more excitement for the expansion.

I've seen plenty of NMS videos, all exemplary...

of why I don't play NMS.

But, you did try.

Yes, that is the elephant in this room.

It gives the 100+ developers employment for the "update" ;) .... now if they produced it as a complete job, what would they do? 🤷‍♂️

I really doubt I'll be reinstalling for this.
I'm getting the update for free thanks to my generous kickstarter donation, but this sounds a lot like more half-baked, bolted-on ..... stuff.

Can't say I've seen anything there which has blown me away. Elite has always been a good looking game but at this point I want significant gameplay additions. You'd hope that would be atmospheric flight models but that's on the 'maybe' table after 2 years of development.

The whole hand-held scanner gameplay sounds like it will get real old, real quick. What's the difference between that and scanning rocks from your SRV? I'm just wondering what the gameplay loop is here:

Find stuff to scan with hand-held scanner
Exit SRV
Walk to alien plant
Scan it.
Return to SRV.

........that's it? Will there be any caves for instance that we have to walk into, inaccessible from an SRV to scan stuff? At least then there's a reason why we have to use our legs.
