Polygon and Twinfinite interviews - more Odyssey details, unknowns, and Walking-In-Ships not at launch

While I can understand the difficulties with ship interiors, given the level of immersion the game tries to roll with, the various ships in the game, and the sheer scale of those ships, ship interiors are necessary.

Even if you end up compromising somehow, with a limited subset of ship interior area available and accessed by lift/tube enter/exit points, and even if some of these areas are fairly homogeneous (eg. Faulcon DeLacy module-focused design) with only accents differing aka. something like "I can see out into the rest of the engineering area through the module command/maintenance interface compartment windows", it would be better than nothing.

The issue isn't so much that what Polygon said was wrong, and yes, I know I've commented words to that effect, the bigger issue is that people in the community saw that and took it as confirmation from Frontier that ship interiors are confirmed as not coming.

The truth is, as far as us in the community are concerned, we don't know for certain until Frontier literally state what is happening.
As much as I want ship interiors, I will accept them not being in Odyssey once Frontier state it. What I keep trying to do (mainly on this forum) is to remind people to not make assumptions.

Website articles have been shown in the past to take a creative approach with what is said in interviews. That's normal for journalism, sensationalism sells.

Completely agree. People sometimes read too much into things, and it's understandable if Frontier wants to back away from any comments that have resulted in a wrong impression being given, even if those comments are not inherently misleading.

I'm not taking the responses in the interview as confirmation of either inclusion or exclusion of those features at or after launch, but I'm glad to know those features are being considered.

It seems that everything I wanted in the "New Era" isnt actually going to be available on Odyssey's launch.

The only thing I can ask myself now is: what are we actually getting at launch? Also: how much later after launch are we going to get those other things?
LOL exactly.
It's longer the list of things not available than the ones available

Gareth Hughes, Principal Designer of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey
: We’re planning to have a variety of activities that players can engage in on planet surfaces; from settlements, down to what we call points of interest which we call transient elements that can kind of spawn in and out which allows us to fill the surface up a little bit.

So.... the same fairly lackluster stuff we got with SRV's?

Cool... nice, yeah.

Yeah actually where is the novelty? It's exactly the same things that we already have in Horizons

I wish they will do such things, but from what I've seen so far, it's just moving, scanning things, shooting things. SRV but Slower and less resistant.
As we haven't seen much yet, it's a bit difficult to tell. I can't judge based on such a small amount of information. I will pass judgement when I have more. Pointless at the moment. Unlike some others who seem to think the tiny amount we have seen is the whole expansion.

"Jonathan Bottone, Art Director of Elite Dangerous: Odyssey: [It’s also about] traveling to those destinations and making it a rich environment and experience in itself, just actually getting there. So traveling there and exploring that location before you even go to some of these points of interest… there’s gameplay there around you. "

6 years and they still didn't find out how to make exploration interesting.
I take it you've played the expansion, so you know exactly what it's like. There seem to be an awful lot of commander Thrusts from Bradford around at the moment.

I'm a little worried that FDev have not even nailed down what will be in expansion, yet it's only a few months from release. 🤨

I hope all goes well. 🤞
I'm sure they have a very good idea of what's in the expansion. Why you think otherwise is beyond me (I have read the interviews and read and watched everything so far).

They probably think otherwise because according to the Polygon article, Frontier do not yet know how atmospheric handling will work, or how we will transition from our pilot seats to the ground. Those seem like pretty fundamental aspects which should have been figured out a long time ago.

I dunno, I think people are assuming that quote (in an article fdev have apparently said does not reflect their interview with them) means that fdev haven't even thought about how these things work. Do you really think that's likely? Isn't it more likely they just haven't decided which of a few options they will go with?

Not yet being settled on which method of transitioning from cockpit to outside doesn't mean the options haven't been considered and even prototyped.
