While I can understand the difficulties with ship interiors, given the level of immersion the game tries to roll with, the various ships in the game, and the sheer scale of those ships, ship interiors are necessary.
Even if you end up compromising somehow, with a limited subset of ship interior area available and accessed by lift/tube enter/exit points, and even if some of these areas are fairly homogeneous (eg. Faulcon DeLacy module-focused design) with only accents differing aka. something like "I can see out into the rest of the engineering area through the module command/maintenance interface compartment windows", it would be better than nothing.
