Possible solution to the great Open PvE vs Open Only debate - a district for both?

Playing the game in either open mode, private mode or solo mode is one of the key features promised during the kickstarter period and can't be changed.

Shame, can you imagine seeing a busy station for once.
I play in open, it feels very solo.
Shame

You would see exactly the same thing because solo isn't keeping stations empty, the fact there are tens of thousands of stations is what keeps them empty. You will almost never encounter players at any of them except the engineers and the key system like Shinrarta Dezhra, I play open all the time and in the bubble over the last two weeks waiting for the FC interior update I saw 2 or 3 other players. It's already known that most players actually already play in Open, the players who stay in solo and pg do so for other reasons, and removing solo and pg won't necessarily make them come to open, but it may make make them move to other games.

have you done the numbers of players and how many stations there are in the bubble? huge play area, to few players means for the most part, an empty play area.

We have roughly 20 000 inhabited systems in the bubble, that is some 20 000 instances of super cruise....

We have ~166 000 stations, outposts, ground bases etc within 500 LY of SOL-system... That is 166 000 more possible instances for a player to be...

Then we have all the conflict zones, Signal sources, resource extraction sites. creating even more instances...
And this not counting all the other instances created when you interdict a ship, drop randomly in rings etc. etc

So no, going open only will not fix your desire to make the game less "empty" of players... you would need ALOT of more players. and for that to happen, the game needs to provide much more enjoyment to an even larger audience, and most of those potential players are not interested in PvP, so that has to be dealt with. and if we remove the two strongest options players have to avoid PvP, ie removing Group and solo mode, then we are looking at some drastic changes to the core mechanics of how the game works...

So, there is no lack of imagination about what could be if this imaginary thing happened, as there have been several occurrences where we have seen what you seek. and it is interesting to note that the biggest player driven event in the game, was done by explorers!

Community Goals tend to have busy stations too, and once again, two reasons for players to avoid open on Community Goals. PvP and no desire to sit and wait for a landing spot open up, with no working landing queue, just hammering away on that request to land over and over... and many who visits a community goal, do so to participate in reaching the goal instead of just hanging around.

But take any backwater system and ytou are most likely going to find yourself alone there.. and no matter how many suggestions to force players into open will fix that.. to few players to large play area...

OP's idea sounds a bit contrived, if I'm honest.

I'd much rather have a more "organic" implementation of any kind of segregation, whereby C&P is powerful enough to deter "criminal" behaviour in lawful systems.

Seen busy stations, sat in busy stations, waited outside the slot at busy stations...
Other cmdrs aren't that hard to find.
Cmdrs in other modes don't bother me.
I don't give a second's thought regarding anyone who doesn't instance with me.
Shouting at a brick wall doesn't equal a debate.
Can I add any more blindingly obvious statements to this list?

A Two-Sided Open-Only District of Systems

A fine concept to shake things up for Open PvP - but nothing about your suggestion would affect the status quo for PvE players.

I think that's where you've stepped onto a hot-topic landmine on the forums unintentionally here...as can be gathered by the responses present already.

Personally it's far more important that all players interested in a game should be able to play the way they want.

We players interested in a PvE experience still have yet to get an official PvE mode from Fdev and have had to rely on third parties to make extensive private group networks to do the job for them (Mobius, primarily).

An official PvE mode visible next to Solo & Open is the only true solution to that quandary.
