Powerplay Beta 1.3 live, lets test if it improves performance for VR!

Guys I am still failing to see what the issue is here. Once CV1 is released shouldn't we then be discussing what FD should or shouldn't do? Frankly we are incredibly lucky to even have this game available in VR.

I'm slightly at loss as to where all this self entitlement has come from. I want improvements just as much as any one else, but let's get real here, we are a tiny fraction of the customer base, running dev kits. Am fairly certain FD have bigger things to worry about right now.

Tiny fraction, for the time being but, that's pretty short sighted IMO. Especially when one onsiders FD uses VR at all their shows and it's generated more media coverage than any single ED feature.

We should be hoping FD is working on VR before CV1 so they aren't playing catchup, like always.

Entitled? Hardly. I have FD's interests way ahead of my own here. I'm trying (like always) to get FD to realise the enormous potential here, both for current VR and next years glut of new hardware.

At the very least, someone in the past few months could have tried it in a DK2, at the very least. Obviously that didn't happen. Now I call that a stupid mistake, IMO, and incredibly irresponsible and short sighted. Don't even get me started on "space risk" and black markets showing on the map.

I'm more than a little concerned at the continued direction FD is heading in.

Assuming you have a decent rig...

For all those still wondering why some of us are "moaning" ... Kindly set everything to max graphics in normal game and do the first combat training missing with SS set to X1.5 :)

Let's hope this isn't a permanent Xbox "optimisation" that won't be fixed. As it is simply horrible and ruins DK2 in ED.
 
I'm gonna stay positive considering we're just at beta 2 with over a week left for release. I'm not necessarily expecting 0.6 support but at the very least it should run the same as Wings does. If it doesn't then I won't play the game until it works again, I exclusively play it with my DK2.

I'm not overly concerned as ED eventually gets it's VR fixed... But it is a strange business model, not focusing more on VR whilst there is little competition... Surely the long term reputation would make up for the limited short term profit margins?

I do also think the ED VR is addictive ... how many people around here say they can't play on a flat screen anymore!
I accept that I am heavily invested in the VR aspect of the game to the point where I would abandon entirely if support were dropped tomorrow (as I did with another space sim despite investing over 5k in that), but I am by no means the only one.
If money or time is such a problem Id happily invest heavily in another KickStarter to build a VR exclusive version of the game!
Go on Devs you know you want to! :p

VR not really working with the beta yet. I really cant get the dk2 orientation to work and resolution no matter what I do goes above DK1 standard. Not sure what is going on here but hopefully will be fixed in the next few days. I have been playing in "normal" mode. First time for ages and you realise how much of the graphical beauty you are missing when maxed out. I do note random frame drops from 120 fps to 60 fps at times in RES ( maxed out all settings with titan x sli). They still haven't solved these huge random frame drops. It feels like there is needs to be a synchronization between server and host every now and then which causes the frame drop. I haven't really checked the fps against bandwidth at the times of stutter but if someone could and see if they note a spike in net traffic at the time of these frame drops. Cheers

Ya, the single screen that's curved looks horrible. More like a bent corner than a curve.

Hmmm.... Wondering if Frontier aren't seeing what we are seeing?

How would we know? They don't tell us anything. I doubt they even tried VR in 1.3, if they did maybe it was a single machine but, I doubt they did at all.

Looks to me almost as if the Oculus quality slider is being totally ignored, and it's defaulting to a mid-level setting (per 1.2 quality levels). This is why I can bump up the oversampling in-game, which previously would have killed my framerate (it's nowhere near a replacement for proper Oculus quality though)
 
The curved menus are a nice touch, saves me having to lean over to get a clear look at them. Also shows that some thought at least has gone toward the VR aspects of this early beta.

We had intended to update the game to support the latest Oculus SDK release 0.6.0.0, as part of our ongoing support for virtual reality. However this latest SDK breaks the game. We’re working with Oculus to try and resolve this and will let you know when there is news on that. In the meantime we will continue to support the previous SDK release and will be including some specific fixes during the beta, for example making sure that the Powerplay map renders correctly to both eyes.

I am getting a pretty OK experience with Nvidia DSR 4X, oculus quality slider at max and all in game settings at ULTRA. I also tried runtime 0.6 but found FOV jumping in and out at random. When stable its silky smooth though - no judder. Back on 0.5 and getting similar graphic quality now as I was getting in 1.2 with in game SS x1.5 - minor judder when moving head rapidly. As others have mentioned reset only working in SC. Only tried private group RES so can't comment on performance in open. Keybind mapping is a huge pain - restoring backed up custom.binds never works for me and I have to build a new config every time there is a new version. If only there was an offline config util for setting up the keys outside the game interface...

Are you using a 970 like in your sig? I'm not in the beta group but I haven't been able to play on minimum on my 970 without judder and I'm hoping 1.3 might change that. I'm also considering getting a second 970 but I want to see how this update goes before I buy.
