Yes. I'm not sure if we'll need to do more later, when the weapons unlock, but I've leveled up to 9 so far without doing the other weekly tasks.Noob question. I have completed the weekly tasks for week 1. I am now level three.
If I just engage in activities that accrue merits without completing all of the week 2 tasks, am I unable to progress my level?
IMO...the weekly tasks need to be a lot more specific so that doing them has some strategic significance. In addition, they should give you an idea what systems and activities are most relevant during the current cycle for your Power so that you know where to best apply for extra credit.
EDIT: Basically, I want what I get from the PP Discords (cycle priorities etc) to be in-game and tasks seems like a good way to push that.
It was the main reason I ended up not bothering with PP1.0, every time I joined a power and tried to do stuff (usually undermine a neighbour, to be fair) and I'd get told off for "rocking the boat" and "they'd come to an agreement to not do that thing." So what was the point in trying to play? But everyone already involved is working on fixing that so you can tell the rest of us what to do when we get around to joining in when the rough edges have been worn off.
I wasn’t particularly interested in what PowerPlay was about but did consider doing it for the Prismatics but then decided that signing up just to get the reward with no real intention of helping the power was selfish of me. So I decided not too, later I heard about the mechanics and was even happier about my choice. It was the main reason I ended up not bothering with PP1.0, every time I joined a power and tried to do stuff (usually undermine a neighbour, to be fair) and I'd get told off for "rocking the boat" and "they'd come to an agreement to not do that thing." While I agree with that, I'd argue that ship's already sailed for the game. Not a good reason to do it though.Dead against anything like this, based on experiences in other games that have daily's and weekly's and whatever the flavour of the month is. It becomes addictive to obsessive players, while it may start off just this little thing....pretty soon it gets more and more built into the game and suddenly you have to log into the game every single day for an hour or more or you miss out on that end of month reward.
It's what prevented me from, doing power play the first time as I traveled for work. That goes against everything powerplay is supposed to be, they should not be assigning systems at all, especially not by hand. The weekly assignments are brilliant.
There are tons of normies, or even filthy casuals, who need direction.
And they can learn which one thing suits them the most as they complete the assignments.
Right now they seem to be randomly generated for every player...
...but Frontier has the ability to steer players via this assignment list to make them all do a very specific thing - if they gave all players the exact same task, in the same system.
Suppose only the Top 5% players are working together on a grand strategy, will they have enough merits/week to overcome the Bottom 95% being lured by the carrot-on-a-stick that the Assignments are?
It would be hilarious if narrative gets driven this way!
