PP 2.0 has sent BGS into crisis

Didn’t FDev have to do some tweaking to the BGS after Odyssey was launched? Because everyone was piling in to collect new mats. Why wouldn’t they do the same here when the initial rush is over?
A little, but the effect of that was mainly confined to Anarchy factions, and the fixes were therefore a little limited because they were already working uphill.

The main non-Anarchy BGS really wasn't affected much at all, perhaps because Odyssey actions tended to have less effect on it to start with:
- you can't trade
- bounty amounts are lower on-foot
- exobio doesn't affect the BGS but it does encourage mapping iceballs which are cheap
- Odyssey missions are generally slower for the same +INF than ship missions

Powerplay balancing is going to be similarly interesting, because the effect is very asymmetric - the BGS in non-Power systems is not noticeably affected by the increased traffic (and might not even have increased traffic), so a general reduction in input sensitivity risks breaking the other half of the bubble by slowing it to a crawl or making it near-impossible to get an expansion at all out there. And pure "BGS balancing" has its limits - the response to particular inputs can be changed, but the nature of those inputs is caused by wider incentives in the game, which is why none of the attempts to rebalance "the BGS" to give Anarchy factions an easier time have helped much at all.

Now I don't share the attitude that some apparently have, that anything that annoys the BGS players is somehow inherently a good thing. I think that's unnecessarily mean-spirited and unsporting
I suppose it depends on how one approaches the PMF / BGS players as a generality, really.
Maybe a year-long BGS war against a big squadron jaded me just a little, or something.

But, yeah, it is a perfect description of my opinion of the empire builders in this game.

This thread feels like another 'person who doesn't play the BGS is concerned for players who do play the BGS' thread. They come up every so often. Some on here just love to tell others how to feel ;)

I expect many BGS players will like a bit of challenge (after an inevitable grumble) - existing BGS play seemed mostly to be about managing expansion orders. There were always complaints that it shouldn't be so easy to keep a massive empire ... well, now it isn't :)

(And if they don't like it now they're gonna love it when Colonisation allows rivals to sneak up on them 😈 )

The risk with BGS manipulation was always going to be that something like this would happen. The writing was in the wall when they stopped making PMFs. BGS manipulation was never intended gameplay anyway. PP is, so the latter was always going to overrule the former in priority.
yeah, if anything the sense of entitlement some players have towards the BGS, and the wailing and gnashing of teeth whenever fdev do anything that affects """"""their""""" systems, is the best possible reason for fdev to just ignore them and do what's best for the overall health of the game regardless.

Spot your first mistake.
Really. Like posting an issue where anyone can respond with rude comments. What's your Squadron Name, how many systems does it control? I want to know so I can look it up and see how well you are doing keeping the INF down so you don't expand.
Or were you just being rude.

Rampant expansion is how you go from Elite 0 to Elite V in a week or so 👀 Them 'acquire goods' missions pay real well.
(what im saying is, a solo player can and will exploit BGS states~ regardless of how minor their impact)

Instead yeling at devs, what to try something else ... try think how to use PP2 for your squadron advantage. BGS was always changing, sometimes to the better, sometimes to worse. But change is a life and imo the best thing on the BGS. There always are ways how to go forward, sometimes however you need go two steps back first before can change course. Now is for any BGS players much more things to do which have meaning. Merits are more or less a new currency and it is still just a begininig for PP2.
Who was yelling? Did I post in all caps? I am pointing out the facts of the influence PP 2 is having over BGS.
Of course we are working on methods to use PP2.
Show proof of BGS changes. Back your statement. I'm curious.

I appreciate your first statement.

"...a bit of a challenge"? Every single one of our systems are pending Expansion. After a little grumble we're scratching our heads thinking "OK, now what?" We have absolutely no control over systems we've controlled for years.
What happens when every populated system in the bubble is expanding and there's no place to go? We're gonna find out.

That you missed the point is the problem.
