Predicting what might be included in a possible free 1 Year Anniversary update

Maybe 3 "new"/unique animals along with 2-3 that are relatively new re-skins

Hmm I do not know. It seems Planet coaster added 3 coasters and 2 smaller rides in the anniversary update. Would not coasters stand for habitat animals and the smaller rides for, well exhibit animals?

I think that 2.0 is almost never used, unless in reference to a sequel version. So PZ 2.0 is just PZ2
Minecraft for example, one of the largest and most popular video games of all time, just recently announced their big annual update, the Caves and Cliffs update. This will become update version 1.17 of the game. And they too have smaller updates to do things like add a little bit of content or fix bugs. For example, I'm pretty sure the most current version is 1.16.4

Hope this clears it up a little for everyone :)
It's often used with expansion packs and major internal changes though. It normally boosts the basic requirements for things to include the pack for anything after that point.

If I remember right with the Zoo Tycoon games, each major pack had a increase in number for it, basically setting a new baseline point for it. World of Warcraft did the same thing, each expansion upped the number.

A lot of flash based games are getting a number upgrade now (or already have) to shift engines while maintaining whatever they can.

Overall, I think you're right. But I don't know that it's a 1:1. My thought is that you would wind up with three new animals that are relatively unique (and probably fairly well-requested by the community) and some others that are pretty similar to what we have in-game already (that are theoretically easier to create). A better argument against my guess is that they would be giving away six animals for free which would have people saying "Waaah! But I paid for four animals in a paid DLC a month ago!" 'cuz if they do that, you know that's going to happen. Haha.

My overall point, though, is that the additions would need to be substantial enough to drive further sales of the game and keep existing players playing for longer.

After the announcement of the release date for Planet Coaster Console Edition, I'm not sure anymore about an anniversary update, but on the other hand I think a new DLC for Christmas is very likely to happen.

I don't think PC getting a console edition impacts PZ in any real way right now. There would be multiple teams for each game.

Indeed, however it could impact Frontier's priorities and marketing strategy. That said it's not as though they can only promote one IP at once, so who knows.

I don't think it would have a huge impact though, after all JWE was released in 2018 and 2018 was a strong year for content for PC. Plus, a PC port to console isn't a new IP, so if anything it would have less of an impact than JWE did on PC, or PZ on JWE. I think we'll get something for an anniversary update in early/mid November and a paid NA or EU dlc in mid December, right before Christmas. The point raised about boosting awareness and good favor with some large free content, in order to encourage more sales during the holidays, is a great argument for this.

I also want to quickly ask you all what animals you think we might get in a free 1 Year Anniversary update. Idk how you theme at as long as you're being realistic to what you actually do believe we might get, whether it be 2-3 or 5-6.

I really disagree here. I mean yeah, there will be a few trolls who say that very thing but you're always going to have a few of them regardless.
I would trust the rest of the community to understand why we would get 6 animals there in 4 in a paid dlc. Because the whole argument that it's acceptable to only get 4 animals in a paid dlc is because they include so many scenery pieces, literally hundreds of them. Which is the very same reason so many people have said we would be willing to either pay more for dlcs that have the same number of scenery plus more animals or Frontier should make paid dlc with more animals and little scenery.

2-3

I'm not sure how 5-6 free animals will be received by the community when you stick with 4 animals in a paid DLC.
With 2-3 you can avoid that discussion.

I hope so but don't expect much. So when it happens, I'll be pleasantly surprised :D

While I don't think that we get that much animals (or any) for free, people who start a discussion about too much free content compared to a DLC can get a life. Who in their right mind would complain about a generous gift....

Well, i just picked an option. If they add animals to this, I think 2-3.
Do I expect they will add animals to a free update, no. (would be nice surprise)

Well, the 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 update did give some insight how some people look at of free stuff.
The recent coat variations was a good example, i think. For some it wasn't enough.
(I just expect to pay for such extra content and it's really nice if it's free)

I'm with you on this one. Don't ask for free stuff and dont complain about getting free stuff - a lot of devs don't give free content or only improvements on existing features..
(predicting/guessing/talking about a free update is different)

Well, with the coat update it was somewhat different. It was a promised feature, so I don't see it as a gift, but more as a "patched in later" thing. I understood some arguments, but definately not all.

I was thinking about something... since they did change some things with water already, the anniversary update (if there isone and I really hope so) could be a water update for the existing animals.

What I think?

None. I don't think we'll get any free animals on the anniversary. I think we might get some kind of update, but not animals.

How about a different approach?
What other time would you expect this? never? (btw, which is a very legit answer)

My opinion: If there's any chance of getting a free animal/free animals - an anniversary (1 year/2 year) would be the most likely.

Don't get me wrong. I don't expect it, I hope we get some.
Don't think it would be 1 - but 5-6 would be too much.
I think the first year has the most new features and after that it's in paid DLC or just tweaks/bug fixes.

I'd prefer not to get my hopes up. I'd prefer for nobody else to get their hopes up, either - it's going to be a headache and a half dealing with all the whining if we don't get free animals on the anniversary (doubtless not from you, but from others).

There's a certain fun to predicting/speculating about this stuff. I think nobody should seriously expect free stuff.
Even in previous annoucements about features: I just wait and see when I can actually experience this feature for myself.

If at all there are 100 species points for each player. In franchise mode, all animals may be available in greater numbers. I expect nothing more from Frontier.

There's a big difference between fun speculating and outright expecting or feeling entitled to.

In this case I don't think it's a sense of entitlement - there were some free goodies for PC and JWE, so there is precedent - but at the same time it's clear there are other factors at play with Frontier this time around. I'd rather expect nothing and be happily surprised than expect everything and feel disappointed.

I always wonder how to control if you expect something or nothing. The moment one thinks about an event, he or she has automatically accosiations. It's more of an reflex than active thinking, nothing you can control. And yes, spontaneously thinking we get nothing does count into this.

What we are able to control is our reactions if our accosiations are met and if not.
By the way, I totally missed JWEs first year update... so I just hope the party for PZ will be loud enough for me to hear :D
