Predicting what might be included in a possible free 1 Year Anniversary update

Frontier releasing 1.3.4 doesn't mean we won't get 1.4 in November. If we take "a couple of weeks" literally and it comes out in two weeks, that's around 10/26/2020, the last week of October. The 1.4 1 Year Anniversary pack for PC came out on November 22nd 2017, which was 1 full year and 5 days after PC's launch date. PZ was launched November 5th, so if there's something coming I would expect it around November 10th-15th.

Now this is pure speculation on my end, but I would honestly be surprised if the entire PZ team was only working on the1.3.4 update. Actually scratch that, I know that's not how they operate. Otherwise they wouldn't have time to work on paid dlc lol. I think, and hope, that they've had a small team working on 1.3.2, 1.3.3 and now 1.3.4, and then two split teams working on 1.4.0 and the last Year 1 paid dlc respectively.
Bumping this to say we're a few days ahead of what I predicted.

I don't know... if there were an update 1.4 coming, we would probably have heard of it by now. On the other hand they might keeping some things for themselves to make a surprise on the 5th of november. Lets wait for thursday. If we haven't heard anything of a major update by then, I doubt we will get one in time for the 1 year anniversary.

I doubt they would not make an anniversary update. There was a huge one for PlanCo and back then Frontier was more of an Indie company from what I understand. Now they are AAA game developer and from their report, PlanZoo sold even better than PlanCo at the launch. I dont know, it would not make sense if we dont get anything, I somewhat doubt it.

Edit: Oh and their announcments always come out of nowhere so I would not be surprised if we hear of it just a few days ahead.

I strongly disagree. While small updates like the one today for 1.3.4 are usually announced and implemented on the same day, large updates, like 1.3.0 itself are usually announced one full week before they go live. So I wouldn't expect to hear anything about it for another 2 or 2.5 weeks minimum

I think that a small anniversary update on the 3rd or 17th November is still possible. Some updates were released on thursdays, so maybe we could have it on the 5th, just the exact date of the anniversary. Then, the DLC could come on 15th December, just in time for Christmas. Of course, this is pure speculation, but this is what this thread is for, isn't it?

The anniversay update for Planet Coster was 1.4 and was launched on November, Then update 1.5 came in December. It matches the timeline (yeah, I know that doesn't guarantee anything, but there's a precedent for two big updates in less than a month).

The small size of this update also makes me think there will be something more substantial coming in 2-3 weeks, seeing as this didn't address a ton of the bugs they are certainly aware of, and have said they know about. The axis bug being one such thing.
To be fair, the small size made me suspicious as well. However, it might also be that they had a hard time fixing the pathfinding.

You know, things like timed lights/music could be a great thing...being able to set up lightshows and such

Ehhh I could probably do without. I'm not sure that it really screams "zoo" to me. Planet Coaster for sure, but idk about Planet Zoo
I was mainly thinking with the general "Festival of Lights" thing that a lot of zoos have, though that's normally around Christmas but would work as an anniversary one. Adding in a light thing tied to guests/staff moving through an area. Would be a fun thing to do...especially since a lot of zoos aren't going to have theirs this year if things continue...

My local zoo is still having events this year for halloween. Never heard of christmas events with them but never much paid attention. So if they ha e had them before they will again this year.

But on topic, I hope the possible anniversary dlc will be animals and such more than lights or other decorative objects.

I’d be very disappointed if they did that. I know many zoos have things like this but to me it’s peripheral to their core purpose which is housing, breeding, conserving and displaying animals. So I hope any anniversary content, free or otherwise, would focus on animals rather than theme park extras.

I just got an email that said "Level up your zoom game before novembre 1st" and read "zoo game" and thought we had a DLC incomming. Reality hit hard.

I agree @markun I truthfully really don’t know what to expect in the anniversary update. I sorta remember Planco getting the rides as people have stated. I could definitely see us possibly getting a animal or two in a free update. I still believe the in game decor is a hint of things to come. I understand theirs the dodo statue that doesn’t and more then likely surely won’t get that animal in game. But the other decor in game points to living and very popular zoo animals. I could see frontier holding a few things back for future events such as the anniversary update. Just a opinion nothing obviously set in stone. But agreed theme park content would be very disappointing.

Hmm, what are the animals that have decor in game but not actual animal? I can think of right now:

Dromedary camel
Alligator
Deer
White rhino
Black rhino

Yea, not that exciting (at least for me) to be an DLC animals as we have quite similar ones but as free ones they would work quite nicely. Although I still think the decor in game was more of an: "Hey we will be having camels, rhinos and crocodilles in game, can you artists make an in game decor for them?" being unspecified on the species and yeah then they made an dromedary decal for "camel" while the animal team was more in favor of Bactrian. But who knows, I guess we will see soon enough if there even will be animal(s).

Besides the dodo, what decor are you referring to that hints at things to come?

Dromedary camel, alligator, black rhino silhouettes and red deer statue. Just a guess of course but these animals would be staple representations of the regions still needed

Part of it is to also draw people in with things. Normally, a lot of zoos I know of add decor for major holidays and hold them as events to draw in more people...or just as a safer place to do things such as the Halloween one where there's an in zoo event that they let the local kids into for a safer option (This year being the exception to it).

Having options would make things fun and also adds options for designing structures in the game. Timer/Sensor lights also work for other things such as a conservation thing if nothing else...and could work well for something like a nocturnal house.
