Probably done with this game

Yeah I know that many of you are going to think "right, another complaint post, cya good luck" but I want to give my 2 cent as a normal player that basically is a nullity in this game.

I enjoyed this game, played so much and grinding as well and then I burnt myself, so I took a break before to return later, purchased a Phantom and falling in love again with ED. But afterwards my love started to fade again because I've found this game a little bit boring and then another break on it's way. This time many month passed without even updated it, so I've decided to return again by participating to the CG, helping to unlock a useless multi-cannon. Now FD said that the next CG is going to be in July, which means that "what I'm going to do in June?".

I know there are different game mode I should play but:

1) Exploration: What is a point for that? Jumping hundred of systems to get nowhere in a Galaxy just to scan a Water/Earth-like planet that probably is going to be scanned with few chances by another player, what will gives to me? Is that planet will be colonized? Is that planet will be mine? Will I be honored/priced for such achievement? No, just credit and if the Planet was first discovered by me, my name will be displayed on it (wow!!).

2) BGS: Why should I care about a minor faction instead of another one? For the name? I don't like their name. So why? I know that this is a MMO and interaction with other ppl is a must, but I don't want to talk in discord/skype/or any other software because if I want to be part of a Squadron having a voice interaction is necessary. Also I cannot create my own minor faction if my squadron is not composed by at least 10 ppl, so why should I care about BGS? (PowerPlay is even worst)

3) Thargoids: I know that the game is called Elite Dangerous, but is too Dangerous to fight Thargoids that spawning randomly (by FD willing) and also seems pointless to have them into the space. If aliens like them exist for real, do you think they will be limited to disrupt just Coriolis stations? Planets will be probably disintegrated or even colonized, but not into the ED bubble!

4) Conflicts Zone: Like above, I can probably afford Low or maybe Medium intensity CZ with my non-engineered ship, but if I want to do more (even like Pirate Lord hunting) I cannot, because I need to.....

5) Engineering: a huge grind joke, that's it.

6) Last but not least: Bounty, Mining, Trading - Good way to make credits that probably I will not use at all (after purchased all the ships I want)!

How many of you feel the same as above? I mean, this game has huge potentiality and nice immersion, a very good space sim, but that's about it. In general I don't like the kind of games where "I have the freedom to decide what I want", but even if a game is like that, I still have a meaning, a reason to play it. This game what reason gives to me? At the moment none. I'm just playing a holo-person without the ability to use the legs inside a ship flying into the space looking for something unspecific.

Sorry for the bunch of complaining, hopefully something new and really enjoyable will be implemented in this game soon (I trust you FD).

Take care!
:rolleyes:every one gets burnt out, your nothing special, you really shouldent have posted it here, your just gonna get trolled, the forum isnt a helpfull place

I tried exploration and not liking it much, but it can became addictive just to complete it. When I hated it, I don't do the full scan and after many jumps, I do it again. And I do this while carrying long journey passengers - and while testing out a new fitting / engineering for that 0.x more LY. So, it's not just one thing you set to do to keep the game interesting. After a long journey, I would take my combat ship and shoot (gank?) some wanted NPCs at some Nav.Becons ..yea.. in solo mode (not ready to meet real players - your choice). It's also fun to learn some passengers exited from their cabin when you're scanned many hundreds of jumps away from civilization. Maybe the next time they do this, I will see if I can cargo scoop them back.. And.. I'm going to test out the neutron star super highway to make long journey appears shorter... if only I can do copy/paste with my PS4..still figuring out.. So in combination, I think this game is pretty interesting. When my PS4 disk runs low, I removed other games except ED.

Speaking on NPCs at Nav.Beacons, it used to be plentiful - after these recent updates, I gotta wait quite long for one.

Personally, everything in the game is really just an excuse to fly my virtual space ship in a variety of environments. I have fun doing that, so everything else is pure gravy.
This is the simple and correct answer.

If you need other reasons to get enjoyment out of the game, it's probably better to move on to something more structured, and/or "gamey".

I honestly don't know what people expect from MMO style games these days. I've just come back to Elite after playing another game for the last 3 years, and their forum was full of exactly the same type of posts as this one.

It's like some people think that games like this should be able to provide them an infinite amount of things to do, and if they don't that somehow makes it a "bad" game.

Play until you stop having fun, then go play something else. It's normal. No game will keep you entertained forever.

The OP has had a mental breakdown. You have dissed the core parts of the game, well some of the core parts. You sound like you don't like the repetitive nature of the game. You would not make a commander in a real space ship. Captain got bored and decided to eject all his crew for a laugh. I wouldn't fly with you based on that risk. But I will still salute you for your honesty... o7

For a game that's still "being developed" that "development" has taken a nose dive over the past few months with little hope that things will improve until the end of 2020.

My two accounts are now parked up, waiting for Frontier's next move.

My main account, with over 53wks gametime clocked, I've struggled to give myself a goal since returning from DWE2 weeks ago.
My 2nd account, for my grandkids to use, I'v been beefing up for them & started on the 'Initiative', which soon went 'meh, not doing this crap!'

I'd been waiting for Steam to reduce the price of NMS, which they did a couple of weeks ago, so I'm currently enjoying.....YES, enjoying that.
Sorry Frontier.........it's not me, it's you!

Can't say that I agree with any of what you said OP. Especially regarding Engineering, Exploring, and the Thargoids. I thoroughly enjoy the game still and am having just as much fun in the last 20 hours I have played as I did the over 900 hours that came before it.

Hope you find the right game for you though. Good luck.

Different strokes for different folks.
Exactly. If the game isn't for you then it's not for you. The OP is not just complaining about this or that. He is complaining about core aspects of the game that have been here since it's creation and aren't going anywhere.

This is a case of the player being the problem. Not the game. But there is obviously nothing wrong with that though. Not every game is gonna be for everybody. Especially a very niche game that has a steep learning curve like ED.

This is a case of 'following the trail' instead of 'blazing my own' coupled with a burn out mode.

I think you missed the point of the game.

You say 'what's the point of exploration if it's just to scan planets.'
See, this is 'following the trail'; scanning and selling exploration data is basic and common but most importantly: you are not forced to do it, this is just a thing you 'can do'.

Exploration is about what do you want to do, what do you like and what's interesting for you; you don't actually 'need' to follow any guideline.
There is not a proper, or correct way to play in Elite, anybody can do like they want.

Look at me, I explore because I like to see atmospheric planets, fly near it and imagine how it would feel to be down there and what kind of life I would find.. this is just one of the things.

About the BGS, why should you care about one faction instead of another one ?
You don't need to care about anyone if you don't want to, with that said, why should you care? it depend on you, who are you, what do you want ?
Are you a criminal looking to make some money whatever the job ? or maybe you want to help the galaxy as much as you can, bringing medicines in outbreak system, rescuing people from burning stations.

Powerplay also depend of who are you, what are your beliefs ? what power do you agree with ? and do you really care to a point that, you actually want to work for it?

I believe that to fully enjoy Elite, one need to roleplay and create his own adventure; blaze his own trail.

Agree with literally all of this.

I will add that I myself have found that a bit of head canon roleplay also helps with my desire to do certain activities and has kept things fresh for me. I made up an entire backstory for my commander and laid out what his motivations were. Who he is, what he likes, what he dislikes, things he is willing to do, and things he will refuse to do. For example I have not moved a single slave of any kind in over 900 hours of game time. My Commander abhors slavery. Its why he decided to join Aisling Duval. Its why I have never done any mission in Torval space aside from assassination missions.

I get that is mega nerd levels of video gaming and most people will find it funny, but it works for me. Plus its a bit of fun to add to a game that is already fun. Keeps my head busy during long flights and tedious missions.

Take your time and find a guild or squadron to share some activities with? Maybe a social aspect will help you enjoy the game better?
