Materials identification shoud be easier:
when you deploy the SRV you need to know in wich direction to drive to get what you need. The planets surface colors should be useful to identify the areas that got what you need so you can chose where to land and the SRV scanner needs to be improved: it shows the type of rocks but not the materials content. There should be some additional function/mini-game to identify materials. Maybe something like the new FSS?
The SRV should be more stable (less drifting) or it should have some function to recover the stability when it starts drifting without control. At the same time driving on the planet should be more challenging in terms of environment. The planets conditions should affect the experience.
