So I've been searching the net high and low and it has been an mixed bag of answers. I'm currently trying to gain ranks with the Federation so to some of you tired veterans it might be a dumb set of questions. I'm currently at 100% so i'm just waiting for the mission [Yes i'm aware its round up but its been like this for a few days now].

From what i have searched:

Include keys words such as "For the Navy" or something?
Also that if must be from a station/system under faction influence [in my case the Federation]?
Missions are given out by agents with the corresponding fact symbol by their names?
You must be at least cordial with the agents?

More questions I wanna ask:

Is there some other telltale signs to indicate such as mission is available?
Are they restricted to mission board missions or could they be passenger missions too?
Does playing in solo help?
I'm currently in the Asellus Primus region, is this a bad place to grind for missions?

as OP stated - for the "federal" , could be any kind of mission

surely only be handed by federal agents

as always, you need to rep to at least friendly to get serious jobs

I think it is missions only not passengers.
Other than something like navy, naval, federal in the mission description there is nothing to distinguish them or announce them.
I doubt that play mode has an effect.
Just play normally.

Don't sweat it too much, just keep dong missions. You don't cap at the 100% mark, any rep over that keeps building to the next rank. So when you finally get the mission you may find you don't have to much to do until you're looking for the next advancement mission.

aRjay, above post, has pretty much nailed all the wording I've seen listed in mission description

The way to be sure if to check near the bottom of mission details - they list the rank progression (if there is any):

Also remember to look in missions where you do not meet the requirements - they can be in there.

Very timely thread.
I’m still only a cadet and I recall when I last played a couple years ago it was fairly straightforward getting Navy missions.
I’ve be doing missions for fed factions over the weekend and am green in Tun but not progressed or offered a single rank up.
Was going to ask the same thing.

That being said if Engineers are going to be borked next week I should have stuck with the plan to see Farseer first as I won’t get chance now until next weekend :(

The beta ends on the ninth, we don't AFAIK have any indication how long after that 3.0 drops. I don't see the new engineering process being much of an issue with F Farseer compared to say the weapons specialists.

Naval missions will always have "Navy" or "Naval" in them. No other missions will use those words.

Naval missions will always come from a minor faction that is aligned with your superpower. So look for agents that have your superpower's logo next to them.

You must be at least cordial with the agents?

My understanding is that you actually have to be Friendly or better (maybe even allied). I don't recall ever getting a progression mission for anyone I was not at least friendly with. Always a good idea to look anyway, just in case.

The faction definitely has to be aligned with your superpower.

Is there some other telltale signs to indicate such as mission is available?

The word "Navy" or "Naval". That's the only difference between them and normal missions. In the actual description I think it also states clearly that it's a naval mission.

Are they restricted to mission board missions or could they be passenger missions too?

Yes, they could be restricted (for example, the mission might involve landing at an outpost, which you cannot do if you are flying an Anaconda).

I have never seen a passenger Naval mission. Not even once.

Does playing in solo help?

It's helps with everything. Playing in Open or Private is fun, but unless you are trying to team up with someone (or unless you need victims), those game modes generally make things harder, not easier.

However, the difference is not going to be noticeable the vast majority of the the time. So it won't help, but it really should not hurt either.

I'm currently in the Asellus Primus region, is this a bad place to grind for missions?

You can find missions anywhere there are superpower contacts (any faction aligned with your superpower). So the biggest concentration will, of course, be in the Bubble in space that your superpower controls. You can use the powerplay tab in your Map to easily find these systems.

cadet promition

so I'm at cadet 100% now and I found a promition mission the requires me to deliver 81 units of something.
modifying my ship would give me a maximum capacity if like 40.

my question:
do other promotion missions spawn or do I have to buy a larger vessel?

Other missions will spawn

There will be all sorts of missions offered some more objectionable than others.

Now that these missions are chain missions they appear at the top, and change on board refresh, no mode-hopping required.

Look for a courier mission, which are easy and require no changes to your ship.
