PS4 Update 1.10 - Codename FAIL

No! To graphics roll back!

I'd be happy if they roll back to original 2.4 minus the low-quality textures (and crappy shadows). We didn't have that original update for very long, but there were noticeable improvements in quality of planets, the skybox, framerate, HS and SC transitions, the suns, etc. It feels like many of these initial improvements were nerfed in an attempt to fix the texture bug. However, if this bug is happening on high-end PCs, then perhaps we can have all those nice original 2.4 graphic upgrades back.

Well it's an issue that can't be fixed on PS4 by installing a higher spec graphics card...

My personal experience on PC was I was having this issue with a card that had 1GB of VRam, upgraded to a card with 8GB, no problems.

I hear ya, and nor can it be fixed by adjusting graphics settings. Someone posted a screenshot of all the settings available to them on ED for PC, and I just drooled in envy. I don't miss messing with drivers and updates and the constant hardware upgrade cycle of the PC, but I do miss the ability to customize how a game looks (for example, I'd happily trade all this JJ Abrams lens-flare for decent shadows).

I get the feeling that the majority of the 'fixes' released for the ps4 gfx problems have been fdev mucking about with those settings in a config file (turning effects down) rather than fixing broken/poorly optimised code :/

The difference between ps pro and xbox one is now barely noticeable apart from planetary landings :/

I agree 110%

Yeh, if this is true then its very disappointing.

If it's true, I might have to grab me an Xbox One S instead of a PS4 Pro during Black Friday ;)

Then again, I'm truly hooked on the DS4 controller.. Nor do I want to "reward" Frontier for breaking the PS4 version by purchasing another copy of ED.

My ps4 is being update right now, maybe it will be a fix.

Is the update coming from Frontier?

The planetary landings are still it's downfall tbh :/ a one X should solve that tho! ;)

Hopefully they'll sort a propper fix and abit of cfg fiddling was a temporary fix while they work on it as the original 2.4 looked amazing and an good improvement over 2.3 :)

At first, I thought things were better. I could use quality mode again without 8-bit textures! Frame-rates seemed to be improved. There were a couple of audio drops on my first final approach to a planet surface, but the SRV deployed and everything seemed groovy. Then I noticed the LODPOP horror! Graphical anomalies and weird shadows started to re-appear on planetary surfaces in low-orbit cruise. And somebody had wrapped me up in cling-film.

Really? And all this was whilst deep in the black...

When I reached Colonia and attempted to open a mission board, it was more than obvious that something was amiss. Then - on simply navigating the menu - I blue screened. I logged back on and it happened again (repeat x3). Once I had finally managed to offload my exploration data and complete my stack of 20 missions, I thought it were for the best if I just went back to exploring for a while.

But no!

See, one of my greatest pleasures while exploring used to be creating screenshots. Things just don't look quite right now - it's almost as if I'm playing the game on different hardware. Not to mention that while I was waiting for 1.10 to drop, I spent mucho tiempo with GT Sport β - now that's a game with a decent camera mode, probably the best I've ever used. Frontier, take note.

Overall, disappointing work chaps. Must try harder.

Strange as im not getting any of these issues, though I am playing on a PS4pro I do see a big increase in frame rate in performance mode now and the games a lot smoother though in quality mode there is some texture flicker in certain stations.

I wondered about this too, and think you might be right. I will check some of my old screen shots to compare.

My biggest bugbear has gone back to the network performance on PS4 (I blame Old Duck for getting me to check mission board performance on the PC version). Every network function on the PC is night and day to the PS4, its like the PS4 is working in some kind of emulated network mode. I know PSN can potentially add overhead but its night and day between the PC and PS4 Pro. :(

I agree here, playing on PC network is a lot quicker but then my CPU is probably about 5x faster than whats in my PS4pro so is to be expected.

Doesn't today mark the one-week anniversary of this patch? Maybe we'll receive a "prize" later today when we log on. "Options -> Check for Update" :D

Or maybe not, in which case

Its all gone very quiet, even Lloyd vanished, maybe he's on holiday? :)

Edit: no he is not, he's lurking. :)

Hi Lloyd!!! Hey buddy, it appears some of the bugs that I thought were PS4-specific are also manifesting over on the PC, even for users with high-end graphics cards. So the original "texturegate" that started us down this road of despair might not be the 'fault' of your team after all! Now you just need to walk across the office, smack the guy / gal in charge of cross-platform Cobra code upside the head (but not too hard), and tell them to fix this ASAP so we PS4 players can go back to the wonderful graphics we were all experiencing in the beginning. I share my infinite wisdom (tongue-n-cheek) on how to fix LODPOP & crap-shadow here in this post.

Oh, and you should probably fix the mission boards while you're at it ;)
