I like pacifiers, so the K2 build is quite interesting to me. What would you say is the main strengths of the K2 over the FDL?

Definitely the distributor. You can perma-boost with only 2 pips into engines and overall requires less pip management.
But in a 1v1, with two equally skilled pilots, the FDL will still win almost every time.
