Whoa, that's some fast new avatar :)

Hehe good ol MS-Paint FTW
That was just so unbelievable ridiculous i literarly felt compelled to make fun of it ;)

So: Behold, Crap Tier for everyone:

A significant number of PvP players have had enough of the cry baby, scream to Frontier brigade and the forum mods (the latter sometimes having a little too much ego with authority they are granted) and are moving en masse to Star Citizen. The OP is right that this forum is no longer as welcoming as it once was. For me personally I blame the mods first (as there will always be infantile cry babies amongst the readership) who have contributed towards making this forum unwelcome to PvP players.

After that sterling contribution I guess I can't say you will be missed.

"He started it" belongs in kindergarten.

I'm still waiting for Ms. Doherty to send me my certificate that she refused to send for participation in the school play that she says she is NOT going to award me wot cause I punched that Matthew brat in the nose when he said that thing 'bout my dad and I didn't apologize cos he started it.

How long have you been an adult and still haven't learned that the only thing that changes is our ability to justify and rationalize our immaturity? If you're expecting reasonable discourse between two parties who both feel they've been offended you better set the scene by taking them down to the creamery and include some gentle encouragement to make it seem like they aren't being bribed with sweets to kiss and make up.

Does it? Why?

"He started it" belongs in kindergarten.

The idea is to criticize an individual for being a jackbottom, not go with the self identification of "I speak for PvPers/PvEers", and honour that by responding as if you're responding to either group as a whole.

Yes I agree.

Most of the issue is because Generalized statements are thrown around. I am a very competitive PVP player. I love games that cater to PVP and I play quiet a few of them. Warthunder Sim, DOTA, CSgo, Smite, and WoTs are so addicting and I have had to stop myself from playing them exclusively for years now. Yet in ED I am a carebear for some reason? Weird to be sure.

Anywho, the point being is that I know PVP and I participate in a lot of it on a regular basis "In other games". I do this because any game that has a deep meta combat but does not have countering combat can never and will never be competitive. In Dota II every single hero has its exact counter. Every single power has its exact counter. That is why the meta game can exist and it be balanced at the same time. So for that to be true in the ED universe then every single ship should be able to fight and survive against any of the remaining ships. Sidewinders should be able to kill an Anaconda with 2 equally skilled players participating in said combat. That is not the case and should never be the case.

In the case of Elite Dangerous it kills all immersion in the game universe. We all know what happens to people in RL when crimes are commited, however you are required to overlook that in this game. Its not like GTA where its an overblown cartoony violence based game. GTA is more akin to Tom and Jerry or the Three Stooges, less like real life in a city.

ED is trying to create an active realistic simulation of an environment but are allowing the Tom and Jerry cartoon to slip into existence.

This is an open forum, which includes the possibility of non consensual disagreement from others. Git gud or leave.

See what I did there? The EXACT same thing that PvP players do to everyone else in open mode in the game.
Well I hate to ruin your stereotyping here but I dabble in PvP in Open and I don't do that. I talk to, hang with and play with many players that are dedicated solely to PvP and they don't do that either.

If you want tocall out a specific player group or a specific individual that has wronged you personally then please do so (within the naming and shaming rules). But please don't put players of a certain playstyle all in one basket.

STOP!

Instead of posting completely inconsequential tripe on a thread that is patently insignificant, why can't we all leave our computers, go out and save the world together? Right now?

...nah, I didn't think so.

Okay, back to work everyone!

Stop trying to cloud his judgement of what a PvP player is, there is no need for facts to get in the way of a good rant

doesn't matter that one individual PvPer doesn't partake in this behavior. Enough of the other do. I will not call out an individual or specific group because that is in violation of the naming and shaming rules. Seriously, there is no way for me to do so without violating that rule. The best I can say is that they are PvP players. There are enough accounts from enough people to indicate that there are a rather large amount of players who engage in this behavior. Courtesy of the forum rules, I am forced to paint with a broader brush than I would like.

Besides, its not like PvPers don't do the same to PvE players. Can't count the times I have seen "carebear" or "risk adverse" in the forums. Has to be hundreds of times from almost as many people.

To continue to put the shoe on the other foot: It's called Dangerous discussion. Its in the name!!

A PvP player is ANYONE who engages in PvP combat. This includes griefers, gankers, and psycho player killers.

Definition is cut and dry.

Is there any way of ignoring a thread, much like you can ignore a user?

Better yet, having an ignore rule using wildcards, such as "Pv*"?

Just wondering.

damn i said i was out, but as this is directly relevant to OP.........

I know why the no name and shame rules exist however I reckon they are part of the problem here..... because a player cant come on and say, that Mad Mike, what a Donkey! he did XYZ for no reason (possibly inserting random exploit here) what so ever and tried to blow me up....... instead, players are not allowed to direct their grievance and so a player would post a generalised rant which would ultimately paint a broad stroked which could be taken as the "PvP community" as a whole.

on the flip side, a would be player pirate comes on and without a no name and shame rule could complain that when (s)he tried to pirate CMDR Mad Mike he responded "i dont do PvP and CLogged on me...... but with the no name and shame in force instead just does a carpet assault that some player stated he was a PvE player before CLogging, thus tarring the entire PvE community in open as a CLogger.

Like i said i get why FD have the rule and i have no solution.. indeed i do not think there is a solution at this point, i think these discussions will go on for the life of the game.

The "get gud" brigade and the lock them out of the BGS if not in open players i have no time for at all, you all knew the rules of the game (or had the option to know the rules of the game) before buying.

but PvPers as a whole i have no issue at all with, its just not a well i choose to drink from in this particular game. There are things i think FD should implement accross all modes which i think would improve the game, and may get me back in open..... if implemented fab, if not then i can carry on as now, so PvPers are not spoiling my game at all and bear no ill will from me..

Soooo. I wouldn't say they are unwelcome but certain PvP'ers have jaded a large portion of the community here against PvP. In a lot of cases this isn't even because they like PvP, it's because of their attitude.

Without naming names a fair few high profile PvPers seemed to be very direct, at times aggressive and didn't tend to phrase things diplomatically. Some PvP'ers are deliberately out there to cause strife and issues and farm said salt.

The things that are important are:
1) Not all PvP'ers are like this.
2) PvE'ers have just as many people that fit the description above.

Issue is because PvP as an activity is often direct, aggressive and undiplomatic. This means the "image" has stuck which in turn means that often valid complaints and discussions by PvP'ers are often not seen as such and promptly ripped on.

Long and short of it is sadly the many decent people that engage in PvP were rapidly unable to change the image and the mindset of each side developed from there with one side being labelled as griefers and the other as carebears. Sadly the many decent humans on both sides are drowned out by the pack mentality as one side starts attacking the other side.

Me personally I hate all of them and have joined our Thargoid overlords as they fear not if their opponent is PvP or PvE, they don't even care if the player is in Open/Solo! Join the fairest faction of them all today!!

Edit: As for the record I rarely do PvP, I do a lot of co-op and I do a lot of event based things with various groups. I have joined competitions in the past and enjoyed them, I also plan to do more in the future when I get time to get in game properly again. Saying the only people that would be interested are on reddit/discord is a downright falsehood. If I wasn't swamped at work and irl I'd be looking for stuff exactly like this. Sad really that they think that.

Never read a more accurate description of this particular issue. Have a ton of virtual rep.

To add to a fairly pointless discussion...

If you're into PvP and gank innocent open players like me, make sure you have

1. the ship for it
2. the ability to fly it
3. And able to cackle as you send someone to a 17 million rebuy screen

Unfourtunetly for a would be ganker near founder's world the other day, interdicting an elite anaconda with a diamondback fails on point one, firing weapons at said elite anaconda before losing lock due to chaff and heat sink fails on point 2 and failed completely on point 3 as I just lo-waked out on my merry way to Jameson memorial.[cool]

I'll give him 1 point for persistance as he interdicted me again, but then failed all over again although I think he must have thought "w00t got 1 ring off his shield"

If he interdicted me again, I think I would have lost patience at that point, opened the weapons ports and blown him out of the sky* [mad]

Bill

*or more likely, he'd have combat logged on me with 4% of his hull left and no working modules [down]

I agree with your concept to a point. But here's the thing, in a PVP "robbery" or "murder" scenario, the hard counter to an agressive murderboat isn't for the T-6 or sidey to stay and fight, it's to escape. If you can't or don't want to fight, change your ship, loadout, and tactics if you insist on being in open. The talk is always about "oh I'm trading in open and these PVP guys are killing me without my consent." Well, you're driving a space Fedex truck with a giant bullseye on it, so it's in your best interest to not fight. Fit the fastest drives you can, enough shields to give you time, weapons that will slow your pursuers, and engineer mods that are balanced between range and escaping conflicts. If you're doing milk runs in open, the hard counter to being attacked is escaping in my opinion. I do agree that there is no compelling force on either side of PVP than a base predator/prey dynamic. Some people like chasing, some people like being chased. Both can be exhilarating.

Pretty sure it will be very different in Star Citizen... :D
