PvP (Open) commanders not welcome on this forum?...

How come, every thread about PvP, also ends up talking about Open?

And then every thread inevitably ends up being the same. Lol

Sometimes I forget which thread I'm in, and have to go back and read the OP.

Crime and Punishment come up in every thread too. Yet FD seem to be avoiding this one. Probably because it's a hard one to pull off without ruining something for someone.

Is this a 'PVP cry me a river' thread?

Personally ive never seen the so called PVP community of this forum be ostracized, Ive seen Idiot PVP and PVE posters and ive seen cogent PVP and PVE posters (and everything in between). but no where in this mix have i witness an abject shutting down of the so called PVP community on this forum.

The only people of the PVP community i see get chastised here more than the rest (and possibly paint all with the same brush) are the malcontents who play simply to be trolls.

If PVP is an 'absolute' identity like PVE is judged, then maybe the PVP community need to get their house in order against the negative, unclassy elements of your so called kin.

@Lokvette, I'm familiar with the book Atlas Shrugged, but I'm curious as to your use of its title in your sig.

It was in protest to actions of our overseer's a little while ago, just not got around to making my own and was looking for a quote on power. not read the book tbh.

Learned a new word today. Thanks. :)

So I created an alternative thread, asking how many wanted a dedicated space (sub-forum: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/323250-Should-this-forum-have-a-PvP-sub-forum) on this forum for PvP, and it turned out a large number of PvPers didn't even want that.

This leads me to two semi-conclusions:

  • That PvPers are not a unified group. Obviously. :)
  • But more importantly, it also made it clear to me that many PvPers (at least on this forum) like to consider themselves in opposition to any given standard. The whole "sticking it to man" jargon. And I think this is why PvPers will struggle to fit in.

Because they identify with the struggle and they don't want to fit in. :)
I drew a simpler conclusion: Many people simply don't want further segregation.

Another conclusion that came up was that PvPers feel they won't ever be given a fair and unbiased treatment from the forum moderators until at least one of the moderators is drawn from the PvP playerbase pool.

PvP is for scruffy looking nerf herders.

I'm starting to think there some sort of "PvP-ism" going on here.

It seems as soon as anyone mentions PvP, it's taken as griefers, gankers, seal clubbing and fox hunting, and starts a whole debate about crime and punishment. Lol

There's more to PvP than just that, and it's worth discussing.... Wait I'm in the wrong thread again...

It had on me. Very much "the other" way :)

I'm guessing you mean that in a solid anti- Ayn Rand sort of way. It will probably come as no surprise to anybody who's read many of my posts that I'm a huge Ayn Rand fan, and consider her works Atlas Shrugged & The Fountainhead to be more important written works exploring the nature of evil in the world than the Bible.

How's that for off topic?

I sure wish this forum was more welcoming to PvPers!

So for you the shrug Atlassed? :)

I welcome you dear PvPer to this forum.

*reads comments on Ayn Rand*

Get outta here you no good Ayn Rand rep grinder!

You just make it too hard to be accepted Jason :D

As of now PvPers are actively self-segregating themselves from the official forum entirely. I would think that a dedicated sub-forum for PvP for all to see next to all the other established sub-forums would be an acknowledgement by FD.

But as per the poll, PvPers are apparently so conflicted that they don't want the acknowledgement... [where is it] I conclude that it's inherent in many PvPers DNA. :) Maybe "established" doesn't sit well with the PvP identity?

Pretty sure that the forum was never unwelcoming for you. Just look at all that form rep! Even bigger than GluttonyFang's! Even with all the alleged moderation persecution and forum "unwelcomingness", you were still able to write all those posts for so long, and amass all that rep... Fantastic, right?

If you're truly wondering why some PvPers don't have a heartfelt welcome party, perhaps before firing at moderators or general forum pop, you should look more closely to the side. You don't need to travel much further than this very thread.

Well that's a pretty naive conclusion to make if the depth of your research is one thread and a Discord interaction. To assume you have correctly mapped PvPers very DNA is wishful thinking at best if that's the extent of your research and examination on the matter.

A whole heap of separate conclusions could have been drawn from that thread depending on what you bring with you. You drew 2 conclusions, I offered 2 more conclusions, other people could draw yet more conclusions based on their own interpretations. That's not really a definitive piece of research there from which to draw any significantly meaningful and accurate conclusions now is it?

How many people that voted in that poll were PvP players?
How many were PvE players?

You didn't expressly ask for PvPers only to vote and comment so how can you come to the conclusion that PvPers are actively self-segregating from just that? By my reading through that thread it seemed quite a few PvEers were also wary of creating a seperate PvP subforum, why would that be?

You didn't cross examine the other things that were brought to the table such as the history of why PvPers feel that a mass exodus from the official forums was an action they felt they eventually needed to take or why PvPers feel a lack of representation in the moderation of this forum. What empirical evidence is there to either support or deny the claims of harsher treatment from the moderators towards PvP-centric posters for example?

Is there a causality factor to the feeling of persecution coming from PvPers on here? Was it indeed a snowball effect that gradually eroded the goodwill between PvPers and this forum or is it driven by the continued feeding of a myth on the PvPers end? What was it like to be a PvPer when the game was still in Beta or just newly released? What were the feelings and attitudes on the forum then compared to how they are now? And why?

These are the things you need to ask and provide an answer to in order to back up an assertion as concrete sounding as 'It's in their DNA to be anti-establishment'.

I can for example immediately disprove your theory that PvPers are actively seeking to self-segregate themselves from this forum by posting a link to this thread here:

I'm hardly representative of the PvP community, more like a player who's done everything this game has to offer ten times over and is unhappy with the prevailing attitude towards PvPers in general, and as to my sizable rep....well, that was mostly from back during my early days when I didn't know much and thought posts fawning over Mobius were cool:)

And now that you know better, why do you now think posts fawning over mobius are uncool?

I for one am completely triggered by the fact that you have more rep than Ziggy even though he is Elite and you are only Deadly on here. What, did you find a forum Robigo, Sothis and Ceos or somethin? :D

Because there's already enough of that going on around here without my further contributions. Balance of the force and all:)

I know, right? Considering how spectacularly funny Ziggy is, especially compared to me, it does seem a trifle unfair!
