Python for core mining plus fighting npc pirates

i normally concentrate on one mineral that has curently good prices: now monozite (756k max in the moment), yesterday i found a station 2 jumps away for nearly 700k.
a wise choice. monazite, benitoite etc. often have more high paying sell stations, than void opals or low temperature diamonds.

thanks for all your advices :).
Regarding money - i never had big problems finding good places to sell. i normally concentrate on one mineral that has curently good prices: now monozite (756k max in the moment), yesterday i found a station 2 jumps away for nearly 700k.
Smart man. Not greedy.

It's still worth quite a bit. Not sure what it was at before.
it topped out at 270k cr/t before the patch - as third party apps are still full of old prices, i don't know what they pay for currently max - but it looks if that is still beyond 200K/t.

It wasn't that high at the station I sold it at, but it was higher than Painite... maybe in the 65k range.
I wasn't "selling platinum", either. Just selling junk that I picked up along the way and not paying much attention to states or market conditions.

thanks a bunch, for now i'll try with @Stealthie build - without the engineering for now. If it is not working i will engneer for thermal resitance.

No need to copy my build too exactly.

I don't really find combat with NPCs to be much of an effort so I deliberately went with a smaller shield and didn't bother with an armored hull.
Also, of course, engineered weapons help a lot with reducing the threat posed by NPCs.
Also, also, I fly my mining ships off my Fleet Carrier so I don't need a fuel scoop to travel long distances.

You might want to swap one of the cargo racks for a bigger shield to help with defence, which'd allow you to use one less SB and fit a PDT instead.
That'd free up the C4 slot and allow you to fit a 4A fuel scoop, which is adequate for a Python.
I'd suggest a 6C bi-weave shield.
Bi-weaves are really handy for recovering quickly after bumps and scrapes while mining, which means they're at full strength if you get attacked.

You also might want to fit military hull armor although, personally, I tend to run away once my shield is getting low and a Python's fast enough to escape most ships that could pose a serious threat.

Don't worry too much about maximising cargo capacity.
If you only have ~100t of cargo space, that'll be plenty to store a valuable supply of VOs or LTDs - and you can always have another go once you've sold what you mined.
Having a large cargo capacity doesn't help if it takes so long to fill it that mining gets boring, or your ship gets destroyed cos you fitted a smaller shield.

I used to go mining in a T9 with 512t of cargo space but it took 6 hours of mining to fill it, which stops being fun long before you're finished.
These days I tend to do most of my mining in a Krait or Python with 128t of cargo space, store the ore on my FC and then flog it once a month.

Seems like a good idea until you actually go out there and start trying to fill it.
~100T is about as much as I'm willing to put up with now.

Hello Commanders,

i am curently in core mining with a python. My only problem is time - i cannot mine long enough to fill my cargo within one seesion. So i log off and on again. After logging in again i very often encounter some pirates (one or two). I don't want to fly away anymore.

So what is a good setup for only core mining + fighting npc pirates?
Currently i have this . Not sure about point defense (it helped me often agains hatch breaker).

thanks in advance

You could swap to a Krait (losing a 6E Cargo Rack) and trade the 5E Cargo Rack for an SLF. To be blunt though, you're trying to do too much with one ship.

On a side note, a properly engineered Krait with long range turrets and an SLF makes for a really snazzy RES laser miner.
Claim bounties and strip mine the galaxy all in one go.
