Ships Python Owners' Thread

Just brought by first Python, love the ship, only one problem. the system i brought it in doesn't sell any class 5 FSDs and i cant get out of the system!

Which system is that? Did you check https://eddb.io/ if another station in the same system sells them?

If not, you can still fly manually to another system. See you in a few years [big grin] (just kidding, of course).

I had a similar problem, once I had the money, I checked for the nearest Li Yong-Rui system that sells Pythons, but didn't check what upgrades the system sold. I was able to fly to another system to upgrade my FSD, but it was not a fun flight.

Flying to Slinks Eye in open play right after outfitting my Python wasn't my brightest moment, either. Damn, those Python rebuys are expensive... [sour]
 
If you don't want to sell it and lose 10% of value, I would suggest you buy some smaller and cheeper ship that can fit 5A FSD elsewhere. Then use this ship to deliver that FSD to your phyton (sell and buy back method). Hope it helps.

This little beast can solo Combat Zones, Nav Beacons and Haz Res. Able to tank out multiple Power Play hostiles while bounty hunting, for a fair amount of time. Shields at 4 pips can withstand boosting into the back of a station without dimming a ring; for those little accidents.

Boost: 434m/s
FSD Range: 23LY
Shields: 1159.2mj

I am still tinkering with it; working on getting Prismatics for it, and working my way up to getting the better shield booster mods, weapon mods, and armour.

With a g5 thermal generator youre running at 60% thermal resistance with a good roll. Add one g5 resistance enhanced booster +15% and you have reached the cap of 75%, any more resistance enhanced boosters would be a waste of the thermal stat, so youre better off going with heavy duty for the remaining slots.
 
I can't find the post outlining resistances but I'm it's not just a matter of adding 15% to the thermal resist shield rating (which isn't a percentage it's just a relative value), I'm running a L5 thermal shield mod (55 thermal) on a 6C bi-weave and with 3 decent resist L5 boosters Frenotx's shield calculator outputs 61.5 so a fair way from the 75 hard cap.

I believe 3 augmented + 1 heavy duty was a fairly optimised setup, input your shield and booster stats into the spreadsheet and see what you're running.

And thanks also to you Ceekay. I got lucky with prospecting for Antinomy last night, so I have plenty of mats for both Augmented and Heavy Duty versions; I'll probably wait until module storage comes live and experiment with combinations to see what feels right in-game.
 
Engineering can produce some very high L5 resistance boosters, so far I've got an L5 with over 17 across thermal, kinetic and explosive and one with over 15 and 23% strength boost and one with just over 13 :(

There can be a fair spread of values so like yourself I'm going to stockpile materials and wait for storage, then I'll engineer some top end boosters and apply them to ships in a more structured manner.

Ok couldn't wait and upgraded to a shiny new Python last night upgraded to a 5A FSD and a 4b fuel scoop before knocking it on the head last night. couldn't help myself left with 10mil in the bank I know I kniow... but I like to live dangerously that's why I'm a mod.....

Want to increase the jump range as far as possible and I noticed the cargo was 105t

Popped over to Felicity Farseer to upgrade and realised I'd run out of Grid Resistors. mutter mutter....

Lovely ship to look at put the Black Friday paintjob on her which looks great and will look to get teh max space and jump range that I can.

Any tips would be great. :)
 
I use this build as a flexible multi-role ship (I've another Python permanently configured as a miner/hauler) I swap out modules as required, currently hunting for ruthenium (thermal shields L5) in an SRV, for long trips (Palin/Tarquin) I'll drop in a 64 T fuel tank or a class 5 scoop.

for the weapons on a python is 3 pulse lazers in the large slots and 2 plasma accelerators in the 2 mediums a good idea?
 
Doesn't sound like the worst thing ever, but I found a better balance with a single large plasma and everything on top pulses or whatever you like (multis are popular).

These days engineering has allowed me three large plasma and 2 seeker racks, and that combination is like the hammer of the gods. Note that in addition to power, a distro mod is very helpful. Got a crazy +23% roll on G1 weapon focused. Murderous.

Overall a good starting build. I would recommend adding a heat sink launcher, upgrade to reinforced bulkheads when you can, and swap out the collector for hull reinforcement package. Also swap out the 4A fuel scoop for a 5B when you can as well. The heat sinks are good in a pinch if you get in a jam at close to a star as well as cooling down when you activate that shield cell bank. The reinforced bulkheads and hull reinforcement will help you tank when your shields get taken down. It is nice to have the collector to pick up stuff but you can learn to do it solo as well. Move the docking computer to you class 2 slot. When you want to do combat in a local area swap the detailed surface scanner and advanced discovery scanners for hull reinforcement packages to help you tank even more in a tight pinch. Additionally the fuel scoop could be swapped out for more hull reinforcement when you want to do local combat.

Graduated from T7 and sold most of my fleet for a new Python. As a trader type, I am impressed. Against even 2.2 T7 Python is worthy next step.

Only thing that is clearly worse than T7 are the yaw and lateral thrusters. Would they be better if I upgraded them from current D-class? On planets with under 2 G's Lakon's product has no problems with slightly tilted approach. Tried that with Python and ended up taking couple of bounces of the sand dunes as the altitude just crashed. Must be the difference between big flat sides that mount multiple thrusters and a wedge shape with one or two per side.

Other than having to unlearn some flying tricks that worked on T6/7 I am happy owner. This snake moves! Next step is weponize this thing. Looking forward what it can do with some bounty hunting gear bolted on it.

In terms of thrusters, the Python really benefits from A spec and a bit of engineering. Even L3 drives are like a different world.
