Welcome all to the features meta-wishlist for planet zoo 2, the hopeful sequel to planet zoo! Similar to my free-update wishlist, this will be the place to clearly suggest your desired features for the sequel as suggesting in the very active speculation threads is a bad way to allow your suggestions to be seen by frontier. This meta-wishlist plans to include pretty much anything you can think of, feature wise, new scenery pieces, improved mechanics, brand new animal systems for birds or aquariums... whatever you want!

Guidelines of the Meta-wishlist:
  1. You can suggest animals only if they are backed up with a mechanic for housing these animals, ideally we want to focus on the features rather than the animals themselves due to the word limit of these threads.
  2. Everyone has unlimited votes but duplicates will be monitored
  3. Please only suggest features related to planet zoo, any inappropriate features or spam will be ignored or reported if needed
  4. Don't suggest bug fixes for planet zoo 1
  5. There is no restriction on unpopular forum ideas like marine mammal mechanics or features related to them, don't feel pressured by others to hold back any personal wants in these areas
  6. Liking another post is not counted as a vote, if you want to add a vote to another person's suggestion, quote their message and let me know you want to add a vote to that suggestion
  7. If suggesting a major animal additions such as aviaries, aquariums, individual animal personalities etc, it would be appreciated if you can provide an explanation of how these would work for your ideal implementation of the feature. Just a vague "give me birds" doesn't help everyone else understand how you want birds in a sequel.

  • You can vote for features suggested by other people, you can do this by easily just quoting their post and add a "+1" message however do not +1 an entire list if any of the suggestions have already been mentioned by you or +1 by you already. You can +1 a list but ensure you mention what suggestions you don't need a second vote for.

Aviaries: I don't think we'll be able to make fully free-form aviaries, because that might screw up the navigable area of flying birds. Instead, what Frontier could do is make it so you build a habitat and then have the option to add a mesh roof, which is then automatically made. Ideally this would also work if the barriers of the habitat were null barriers.
Item scaling: Speaks for itself really.
Improved path system: I can't really put into words how to fix the path system, but PC2 is improving it, so maybe PZ2 can do the same.
All terrain paints in all biomes: One of my most wanted features, I don't understand how this isn't already a thing.
Plant brush: Another thing that PC2 has, I see no reason why PZ2 can't have it too.
Custom map skirts: You should be able to import an image, or potentially a collection of images, to make custom map skirts.
More maps: Why don't we have a city map? PC had it.
Better animal market: In sandbox, have more than four of each animal show up in the market at a time. Maybe make it a setting. In franchise, put stricter limits on how much players can charge for animals to combat in-game inflation.
Sandbox animal gene editor: It doesn't make much sense logically, but this is sandbox mode. We should be able to get animals with the exact gene percentages and physical appearance we want. Want a zoo with all albino animals? Or all animals with a 0% size gene? Now you can!

Aquariums and aquatic animals

Can come in two types

one similar to our current exhibit types but with more customization of size and layout (probably should be universal for all exhibits in the sequel, maybe have a mini exhibit editor?) and that will be for small schools of fish/ crustaceans that would get lost in larger “habitat” tanks

Second type is the huge habitat style tank for animal like manatees, whale sharks, sharks, some cetaceans like belugas, sea turtles, and larger fish like marlins. These should be fully customizable and have a filtration system where you control more parameters: ph, salinity, temperature. These “habitat” tanks should work similar to the current barrier system with a little bit of zoo tycoon 2’s tank system as well, with a new tank entrance for keepers and everything. Current animals like: pinnipeds and penguins can also be housed in them as long as land is provided. This should all work like zoo tycoon 2 where if you wanted to connect a tank to a regular habitat you could as well and it’s seamless.

Aviaries

I agree aviaries should work as regular habitats but the game either gives you an option for a covering or uses the same way it track down shelter shade to realize a habitat is covered by scenery. Preferably both options. WEs can be kept and expanded for smaller birds like budgies. Full blown aviaries are for bigger flying birds and arboreal animals.

Animal behavior rehaul

Animals should have added behaviors that make them feel more alive. Nursing mammals with their babies, animals carrying their babies, animals stalking/ vocalizing at animals in adjacent habitats, animals herding in large sprawled out habitats to create more realistic looking herbivore savannahs or plains habitats. Animal social structure being more realistic per animal, wolves running in packs and have a strict pecking order for example, if habitats are big enough animals carve out territories just like jwe2. A lot of these features were in zt2 I’d like them to be modernized and put in pz2.

Animal keeper bonding/ training system

A systems where animals build bonds with certain keepers. Certain keepers are more welcomed and accepted by the animals the more the keeper and the animal have bonded. Allowing these keepers to enter the habitat and interact with the animals with less stress.add a training mechanic where animals train for medical procedures and training animals results in the possible of some species having educational shows and presentations for your guests. (Like zt2 marine shows but for land animals and birds as well like falconry shows, but have the focus more on education like modern zoos are doing) this can be a new form of revenue for franchise zoos.

Better more active and alive challenges in franchise mode

Make challenges similar to zoo tycoon 2 where they’re more active and have a slight story to them. For example: in zoo tycoon 2 randomly an earthquake would hit your zoo and you’d have to redo all your barriers and repair your zoo, your employees would go on strike and you’d have to resolve with less employees for a little while and help out yourself until they came back, celebrities would visit your zoo and you had to make sure they were happy and you got pictures for marketing, you were approached by magazines for marketing photos and you get them for added boost to your zoos fame, another zoo contacts you about trading animals for a while so you have to rush and create a new habitat for a species and you lose one of your animals for a little bit, there’s a animal rescued and you have to house it and care for it for an allotted time and maybe you keep it, there’s a famous dolphin that you have to make sure is happy when you get her for an added boost of attendance and fame if you don’t you lose her and it’s negative for your zoo. All these active challenges could just spring up and you choose to accept or decline most of them (the earthquake one you couldn’t decline) these were added alongside more passive challenges like donation goals, building a tour ride, etc. these make your zoo feel more alive and keep franchise distinct from sandbox, I miss this aspect from zoo tycoon 2 more than any other feature so please planet zoo 2 bring it back.

I'd also love Animal Personalities! Some foxes are more on the playful side whilst others are shy/gentle. I'd hope it would be inheritable and included in the animals' genetic description. Similar to the way colors are genetic and you can tell the color of the animal in the trade center.
 
By the God Emperor and the Golden Throne, I need aviaries and if they can work in the same system, fish in exhibit boxes.

Also by extension, I need more educational tools. New signs, bones, anything and everything to make my zoo feel more like a place for learning and exploring.

  1. Enrichment items can cause flying animations (think nest stands or perch points)
  2. May or may not be a gridded piece
  3. WTE contain smaller flying birds

The way I imagine personalities is pretty simple. An animal would have one from a pool of descriptions that can affect how often they go through animations.
  • Playful: More likely to engage in non-food enrichment
  • Curious: More likely to sniff new additions to the habitat
  • Lazy: Likes to sleep more
  • Loving: Initiates interactions with others
  • Shy: Hides from guests and/or keepers
  • Bossy: More likely to be the alpha
  • Friendly: Bonds to others or keepers quickly
  • Loyal: Keeps bonds for lifetime so that when they are reunited they are happy to see them even after the bond would normally be gone
  • Smart: Easier to train (IF they add training)
It'd be cool if species have some traits more often than others. I'd like it to be possible for each species to have each trait, though.

I envision a system like above, using perch points the bird AI can fly up to them and fly back down. Maybe if placed in a certain distance of one another (I envision to a max of 16m) the birds will also fly between them.

Cool! I like the perch idea. In combination with, in non-sandbox game modes, it needs to be closed top I think it'd be perfect solution. IF, you are playing Franchise mode and you don't have a top to your exhibit the birds could escape.

  2. We need aviaries, that have to be mesh top or indoors. These aviaries have placeable enrichment items that are used like climbing pieces. Allowing the birds to fly up to them and between them.
  3. Small birds like budgies and lorikeets can still work in the WTE.
  4. The exhibit boxes should be opened to new animals, maybe with new fish tank settings.
Here is some other new stuff: an actual good seasonal system. Besides the time going way too fast in PZ1, I think it would be great to reward players for active seasonal management. Around October you can do a Boo at the Zoo to raise more money, just one example.

  2. You can support other organizations and buy land
  3. You have to choose to engage in an active release program, which will require active effort than just clicking release. Animals would have to be raised away from guests, likewise you will need special staff.
  4. You may get a message that an animal needs your help, an abandoned pet, illegal animal, wildlife injury. You can choose to help the animal, and if it’s too hurt you can send it somewhere else or keep it.

You can support other organizations and buy land
It'd be cool if, either in Traditional Franchise or maybe a new Franchise and/or Challenge mode if in order to start a new zoo you have to buy land and/or research a new area.
And you could transfer animals between challenge zoos. And you can choose any area to place your first zoo but after that its a bit more than just throwing conservation credits away. You have to research an area and it would be easier to get a new area in the same continent than one across the globe. And lastly, different animals have higher probability to show up in different biomes/continents. It could be because they are kept in zoos in that continent a lot or: they are a wildlife that needs help. You could even have wildlife rescues where if you release an eligible animal after it gets better/healed you get a lot of conservation credits.
You may get a message that an animal needs your help, an abandoned pet, illegal animal, wildlife injury. You can choose to help the animal, and if it’s too hurt you can send it somewhere else or keep it.

I’m kind of on a role and thought of something else, auto generated Zoo News
  1. New habitats and animals will get an article
  2. New babies will get news
  3. New buildings or upcoming events will be featured
  4. Likewise any conservation efforts will be mentioned.
This can be shared IRL with console and Steam friends. Likewise by clicking on a player on the globe you can keep track of what they have done in their zoos!
