I looked into this for Earth-likes a good while ago, with help from Jackie Silver, who decoded how system names are generated - so it would be possible to generate distances from the sector centres from the system name only. The idea was to see how ELWs are distributed, whether there are more near the edges of their respective sectors, or if they are evenly distributed - on a galactic sample, mind. (There were simply too few ELWs found within a single sector then.)Making notes of all the less than ordinary systems I have noticed a regular pattern in the sector layouts. It seems the interesting finds are situated towards the edges of the sector and the middle has very little of note.Have any other explorers noticed this pattern? The vast majority of the White Dwarf unusual finds are from D0 to D3 and D11 to D14 but D4-D10 seem to have very little of note. From now on I will economic route these areas and fast jump the middle sectors to save time.
The results were that the ELWs were mostly evenly distributed, with a slightly higher occurence around the bottom. That could simply be caused by how Commanders travel though.
I did have a hunch back then that this observation might be due to how more of the "interesting" stars might be found closer to sector edges, but couldn't really look into that at the time. I think it would be possible to do so now, what with all the data from EDDN.
