As with any ship, it isn't like it can't be set up to do a job. But anything it can do, another ship does better. It has no role that would make you say "well I am gonna pick up an Asp S to do this job because it's the best choice".

If anyone likes it then I am 100% pleased FD didn't bring in a ship that may as well have been left on the development whiteboard, because character/personal preference is just about the only thing it has going for it.

Actually, I was thinking this specifically because of its hardpoint placements. The two smalls are so close together they may as well be one. It's also very maneuverable and has a respectable jump range. I happen to have opted for the VM4 in that role, but I can see the AspS doing an exemplary job, especially as it is quite maneuverable so can keep targets in its dumbfire sights even when they are slippery (various skimmers). The maneuverability also means it would have a reasonable chance against defensive ships on some of the surface stations. The build I had been considering was this:

What I've been using is:

Because I also enjoy using it as light interceptor and data runner.
Still, that's not the comparison. For general data running with a side of materials hunting and light combat I use the Cobra MK3:

Cobra all the way :) but I fly the asp more just now. Considering my next trip will be In the cobra for old times sake tho, she's a magnificent beast Ix

Problem with the asp scout is that there are ships which do the same thing for either cheaper or the rough equivalent price and been in game longer. If the asp scout had been in before say a DBS then yeah we would say it's great but it wasn't so it's either ignored by the majority or loved by those weird neche lovers ( I'm one of them)

I've bin flying around in the cobra since this poll.. and i have to agree that i really like the cobra.

Though the cockpit view is far worse compared to the Scout. Flying around over the planet surface looking for POI's is somewhat less fun.

If there is one thing the Scout can do best, its planetary patrols.

Perhaps you have just found the ideal role for the Scout.

It's hard for me to say truly, as I have an Asp Scout purely because I want to own every ship. I've never actually flown it though.

The Cobra on the other hand, I spent a long time in that thing and I still think it's a great ship. It just handles so well.

The Cobra MKIII. First ship I felt safe in. But I didn't stay with her long because I found the DBS, the first ship I felt dangerous in. Now I have neither, but with engineer possibilities I plan on revisiting the Cobra MK III.
Looking for POI? Fly inverted.
