R.I.P Michael Brookes

Michael was not just the 'keeper of the keys to the Lore' of Elite Dangerous, he was a thoroughly nice and decent person (with a mahoosive axe). His shoes as Game Director for ED were vary large ones to fill.

I recall the push for the graveyard at Tionisla - and I suggest the best means of memorialising such an important person for Elite Dangerous would be a grave site next to Tionisla trhat we can visit and pay respects. Well, I expect more recently he would probably want a dinosaur named after him... that looked a bit like Cthlulu!

Sad and shocking news- as a bit of a lore nut I enjoyed his books and he was the early foundational cornerstone of ED.

My first less than glamorous interaction IIRC was being told off for missing the 'e' off Brookes, along with discussions during alpha about flight aids (with Michael being firm about skill over shortcuts). He also supported The King in Powerplay.

Condolences and RIP.

Such a shock to hear of Michael's passing, he was such a lovely man to pretty much everyone he came in contact with and will be sorely, missed.. I always enjoyed a good banter with him online about some of the projects he's been from Elite dangerous , Far Changing tides etc and of course Jurassic World Evolution.. The latter of wich i have a particular memory of Michael, because i bought the game for my youngest for his birthday and casually mentioned it on facebook.. Michael msged me not long afterwards with free codes to download all the DLC as a gift to my son also saying and i quote "thats on me phill", i'll always cherish that as it shows what a kind guy he was .. miss ya m8

Really shocked :(
super nice guy, talked with him a little bit, he always seemed happy to chat with absolutely everyone. Ultimately he was the person who got me into AI art after seeing a few of his creations on Facebook.

Great guy, he will be sorely missed :(

RIP Michael.

You were the one who embraced community ideas and wrote about players' deeds in GalNet. You made 'blazing your own trail' possible by recognizing player accomplishments, like Kamzel's discovery of Beagle Point, Cly's discovery of Jaques station, and even Cannon can trace its roots back to you with the hints and clues you often put out there - ones that got that whole ball rolling.

Thank you for all you did during your time working on Elite o7.

That's sad to hear.

I remember his posts around alpha/beta stages, that all became a sort of bible for Elite reference when we were all arguing about what the game should be like :) If Brookes said it, then that was it. I always enjoyed his take on things and he clearly knew how to build a great world with a hugely ambitious vision. And helped make a pretty damned good game doing it.

o7 Michael Brookes.

My condolences to all who knew him and his family.
I may not have agreed with all the design decisions taken, but Elite Dangerous would not be the game it is today without him and his stewardship of the title in its early years.
I hope Frontier can include a fitting memorial in the galaxy he helped create.

Really sad news, condolences to all his friends and family. I don't think you can overstate Michael's influence on ED from the kickstarter and beyond. He did massive amounts of work on the lore, with the authors and of course in writing the official novel that accompanies the game in fact just too much to mention. Engaged brilliantly with the community at all times and will be sadly missed.

RIP Michael o7
