Random Act of Violence is always the victims to bear

A few more tips to survive open:

Apart from watching some of the excellent YT videos on the subject, especially the ones made by some of the bad boys, always carry a huge shield and a point defense in open. The PD will avoid the engineered thingies that drop your shields in the blink of an eye, and the shields buy you time to keep your head straight. It's heavy and power hungry, but in open it's worth it, at least until you get better.

Fit missles Edit: Sorry torpedos that is, with "Reverberating Cascade". Gankers often hate those, cause "OP" 😿. Likewise learn how to flip your ship 180 degrees (quickly), so that you fly as fast as possible in reverse. First of all it gives you a better view when you dump the biowaste (make a binding for that), secondly some gankers become like a 5 year old with their toys taken away, because they say the "reverski" isn't fair. Well it probably wasn't you that pulled them out of super cruise.

Be sure you have Report Crimes Against Me turned on. That way at least the ganker will get notorious if they manage to blow you up. Also remember that you can't die in the game. Just lose your ship if you forgot to carry at least one rebuy. If you want to PvP against somebody that invites you, it is considered code of conduct, to switch it off.

Block the jerks. It's controversial if you ask a ganker, but everybody else seem to think it's fair enough.

Use solo if you just want to go and stare at the pretties. Once your at the outskirts of the bubble, your chances of meeting anyone but RNGesus are slim to none anyhow. If you stupidly seek the excitement, and I do understand why some, including yours truly would do that, just relog to open before arriving at Sag A* etc.

Start getting friendly with the engineers. The grind is more fun if you're new to the game, and we "all" get there sooner or later. The game as such misses a story, but unlocking engineers is kind of a story and getting some of the guardian modules will enhance your spaceship considerably.

Stay safe and good luck. There's tons of fun awaiting you :alien: And remember that rebuy.

You are absolutely right that there are toxic players , for me it’s more of a case of increasing the recourse. Ship wise yes I’m in a type 9 but why should that matter ? what if it was a really new player that had a transporter ? They can’t afford to rebuy and end up with a sidewinder. As a result think not for me and end up quitting the game .

Explain how does this help ? Its a win for the toxic player stroking the ego but a loss for the overall community not cool.

Have you ever taken a look at the title of the game?

Some addennum to my post...player blasting undefended ship purely to destroy it without no real risk, is engaging in cowardly and quite a scummy behauviour. Ok lets say player roleplays murder psycho or opposes faction in CG, from RP point that player engages in lowlife terrorist attack on humanitarian relief, which from inside game universes perspective again makes player quite a scum.

Hey all still very much a newbie but enjoying the steep learning curve.. Yesterday was the first time I had encountered a griefer who trolled who I have to say in all honestly is nothing but absolute poison for the game .

So I have my Jolly Green Giant which is a type 9 transporter that carry's just under 800 tonnes. I tend to use this for deliveries for stations in need as I like having a ship for nominated roles. The FSD has been engineered to l4 as I ran out of data wake expections so when it’s full it has an amazing jump range of 17 lys lol.

Anyway as part of the CG the need was to delivery medicine to the Davis station in the Duamta so filled up in basic medicines , jumped into the system then dropped out of super cruise to around 9km of the station . Got to within 7.5 km requested access b4 I started to line up to land when within what 10 seconds if that I got my ship blown up by another commander .

Initial reaction was like what ? Surely not . But yes I had been wiped out facing an insurance cost of 4 million plus having to go back to buy and collect more basic medicine.

But the greifer hadn’t finished laughing at me to which I replied that it was nothing more that a scummy move and was an absolute coward. The reply I got was of a very disturbing sexual nature to which i immediately reported to Microsoft Xbox which I have every faith will be dealt with accordingly.

Humour me here though please griefer comments aside ;

I as the victim having now suffered a 4 million credit loss and time required to collect the commodities;

1. Should that be my cost to bare ?
2. Can someone tell me what fine presumably was given to the griefer ?
3. What other actions can be taken if any ?

Many Thanks

Not sure if anyone actually replied to your 3 questions:
1. Yep, you pay the rebuy, but if the perpetrator had notoriety you should get a discount, which increases with the level of notoriety,
2. The perpetrator gets a bounty, which they only have to pay off if killed,
3. There is quite a bit you can do aside from the rather sad solution of retreating to solo:
- get prismatic shields and refit your ship to be survivable in open: you should still have 700+ cargo space
- get advice from the community on how to run the ganker blockade at CGs (can be a lot of fun)
- fly in a wing (safety in numbers)
- send a friend request to the perpetrator, get yourself a PvP combat ship, then try and get the cmdrs bounty, better with the help of friends in a wing, revenge will be sweet
- don't think too much about 'why': some cmdrs just like to attack and kill anything that moves.
- don't think too much about abusive language, it happens, but this really sucks and if it violates Frontier's TOS, it should be reported (although I don't think in-game chat can come under this heading, someone correct me if I'm wrong)
- you can also block the player in game

Open only trader here. I have been interdicted and "killed" countless times, and the first time was a complete panic fest. But, I got better. Now I would say I have a fair chance of escaping either in system interdiction or being ambushed on the way to docking at a station. I cherish this type of gameplay as it fuels my "Han Solo" smuggler fantasies, and I love leaving them for dust because I know it's frustrating for them. I'd pay real money for Road Runner nose art.

Crime & Punishment is poor in the game, as it makes little to no difference what the system security is - any PvP encounter is over before any realistic help could come from any NPC, and in most cases allied CMDRs.

In interdictions, you are looking at the magical ~10 seconds - the time it takes for you for your FSD to come back online after submitting to an interdiction (and unless you are in a PvP build yourself NEVER EVER fight a CMDR interdiction).

Stations are a bit more problematic in that your hostile CMDR can long range snipe you, this is where you need to build to have a shield and hull to get you into the station to dock. CMDRs love faffing with builds, love testing builds so I'm sure you won't be short of advice on either - you can probably even find CMDRs willing to test it with you.

It's unproductive to worry about motives or the "bad faith" of other CMDRs. If you click on "Open" then you accept that shenanigans might happen. I can't stress that enough - it probably should be different, especially regarding C&P, but it isn't. Win this mindset battle with yourself first, Optimistic Nihilism can help with this!

In the same way, don't worry about "other new CMDRs". They are all following their own path, and if that trail leads to another game, then that's where it leads.

Good hunting.

This is why I think half the problem is solo not being dangerous enough. If you wouldn't dare fly in solo shieldless because of NPC ganker wings and Thargoids then you'd have less issue with the human players.
And how does mr noobynoob in his stock Sidewinder fight against murderhoboing npc gankers and thargs. I mean if you scale NPC's even half as capable as engineered human ships, there is no way anyone apart from some highly skilled player can advance the game.

You need to have a good training montage to begin, like Rocky here preparing for open:
