(Rant) Player factions have gone too far

The thread just encourages people to      all over player factions over wrong informations.

No because the only misinformation here is that that is a player faction that took a permit of a system. A player faction gets control of a system as soon as they are added or atleast used to and that is bull.

You're missing the part where this has nothing to do with a player faction.

Players complain at lack of content!

FD Removes permit requirements for a lore rich system!

A little hint to the Devs... You don't improve the game by removing content when your game has so little to start with.

As for player factions, don't care, nothing to do with me. I do however object to game-play being removed without any reason especially when there will be players who had worked to get the permit in the first place - others who will of been working towards getting it.

Who ever came up with the idea for this should be slapped with several wet kippers for many days for being such an idiot.
I got the permit in March. I don't care :)

I'm guessing that FDev haven't noticed that "the ancients of mumu" is technically a copyright infringement or something like that? The band KLF released a song called "justified ancients of MUMU" and making them an "official faction" within the game must be some sort of breach somewhere.

far as I'm aware, this is the only iteration of that particular name (owned by the KLF) - at least so far as a not particularly comprehensive google search found.

Having an ingame faction called that is one thing, and can't be easily stopped I guess (unless FD tell them to) guilds and factions call themselves pretty much anything nowadays, but once they became "owners" of that system they became part of the fabric of the game that is being bought and shipped to hundreds of thousands, and simply removing "justified" isn't enough of a change to slip past a copyright lawyer - especially now that the copyright laws are about to be changed in the UK (country of origin of the game) to be significantly stricter with some very harsh penalties.

I suggest FDev look into the legality of this.

A La monty python? - and I agree wholeheartedly. Permit locked means something, and to have kept it could have been a way for the Rp Pirates to have a faction of their own to work towards (apart from the name thing - see above) this would have given MORE gameplay, so a totally missed opportunity.

So what you have to work for a permit, this is supposed to be a 10 year game right? so why has FD completely bypassed this? (again to the detriment of those who worked for it)

just out of interest 100thmonkey - how long did you spend getting that permit that is now worthless? and how many creds or kills extra could you have gotten with that time?

Seriously, no one cares. It's a non-issue. I guess EVE and Star Citizen should be worried about their use of black monoliths in reference to 2001. Sure hope they don't get sued....

I have no real issue with the player faction system. I have one myself and am closely associated with another. I would not object to FDEV being more strict with the creation criteria however. IE the name and background have to fit in with Elite lore. No silly names etc.

That said, if they did take them all out I would not complain.

Mu is one of those legendary lost continents speculated about in the days when men had "Adventurers Societies". HP Lovecraft and other authors of the Cthulu Mythos refer to Mu as being potentially one of the places where the Old Gods might have held sway. I always assumed that was where the KLF took their inspiration.

The KLF took the name from the Illuminatus Trilogy.

And the KLF were never ones for worrying about copyright infringements. They started their career sampling others music and some of their music could never be played on radio due to infringements.

All new player factions will no longer immediately get the system. FDev have changed this because of the very reason the OP complains about and justifiably so. Now all player factions when inserted in a system will have to work to get control.

I think we should have the ability to destroy a player faction or at least force it to retreat from a given system. That would be the only way I can see that is fair to everyone. That way if enough players want it, they can work towards eliminating a faction that they feel should not have been in that system in the first place.

I honestly have no issue with silly names. We have enough silly political parties in the real world, and yet, my immersion is not broken...

Erm.. You do...

You can already. Push their influence down to the lowest, then when some other faction expands they can get ejected. It's happened three times this week in the systems I work.

Perhaps if as much effort was put into playing the game rather than complaining on forums....

Considering that one of the KLF's stunts involved them burning a (real) million pounds I very much doubt that they'll be overly concerned.

I was in Liverpool St station the day they decided to rain £10 notes from the mezzanine level onto the commuters..

.. first I knew of it was when a friend of mine showed me the 100 or so quid he'd managed to grab from the floor *facepalm*

Well okay, fine there is quite a lot of silly names IRL.
But shouldn't they be presented in a less serious matter then? In the current game it appears to most people that they're all serious and factually correct.

Let's reclaim Phekda and throw those scums out. I really want to get my permit useful again.
