After almost of a month (on and off) of trying every fix and suggestion out there (including the Securom fix more than once), I FINALLY was able to fix the problem of the game not running and having a runtime error. I wanted to share with everyone the EXACT way I fixed it, Step-by-Step, in hopes of helping others. You may want to copy and paste these instructions into a Word document and save (for future reference and so that you do not have to have your Internet Explorer running while performing this fix.)

1. Close/end all open windows and programs. Uninstall RCT3 Platinum (to start fresh)
2. After uninstalled completed, went to the following and deleted the “Atari” folder:
C:\Program Files\Atari
This removed any extra files that did not uninstall with the uninstaller.
3. Emptied my Recycle Bin (just to be sure everything was complete gone)
4. Installed RCT3 Platinum (NOTE: Do NOT run the game after installing. I’m not sure this had anything to do with anything, but for some reason, it might have made a difference.)
5. Now I followed the Securom directions, EXCEPT… the file names were slightly different from what others posted on the site):
a. Locate your RCT3plus file (it can be found at: C:\Program Files\Atari\RCT3plus).
b. Right click on the rct3plus, then click on properties.
c. Uncheck “read-only” and THEN rename the file in the box at the top to: RCT3plus.old
d. Click OK
e. Close/end all open windows and programs.
f. Download the file from (save to desktop): http://www.securom.com/support/customers/atari/RCT3_wild_t147/rct3plus.zip
g. Right click on downloaded zipped file on your desktop (rct3plus) and click on “Extract All…”
h. Click on Next (to go to the next screen)
i. Copy and Paste the following in box: C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum
6. Now Start RCT3 Platinum from the Start Menu-->Programs-->Atari-->RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum-->RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum

I am not making any guarantees, but if you follow these steps EXACTLY, you find some success and FINALLY be able to play the game. Good Luck and Enjoy!

PS: Please reply to this post if you got it work (and what computer you have). This will help others:) Also if anyone has access to making this a sticky, I think it might be worth doing.

I bought the game for my son for Christmas and he has not been able to play it at all. Thanks to your great instructions, I was finally able to load the game so that he could play it! :) BTW, the system he has is a Dell XPS 210.

Worked but now doesn't work

I appreciate this post as it worked for me. But now the game's not working again. Funny thing is I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it, reinstalled that patch...everything worked fine again. But mysteriously after going a few days without playing the game I tried playing it and again it didn't work. I'm truly stumped.

Any help would be awesome thanks.

Have you installed or updated any software or hardware in those few days?

Try setting any file monitoring or anti-virus software to ignore the RCT3 installation folder, re-apply the patch and see if that fixes the issue.

I was able to get the game to start successfully on 2 Dell XPS 420 Dual Cores with these directions. Interestingly I did not have to do this for my Dell Inspiron 530 Dual core. All 3 are running windows Vista. To clarify the directions:
f. Download the file from (save to desktop): http://www.securom.com/support/custo...7/rct3plus.zip
g. Right click on downloaded zipped file on your desktop (rct3plus) and click on “Extract All…”
h. Click on Next (to go to the next screen)
i. Copy and Paste the following in box: C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum

I copied and pasted the extracted RCTplus file into C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum . I had no step "h" (click on Next).

So far so good. Thanks for allowing my wife to have her computer "back" (and the children each have their own computer to run RCT3). :)

I have an HP Duel Core 2.4ghz and your tutorial help a ton. Worked great.

I have rct3 + soaked and the wild ep. I just renamed the rct3plus to old and added the other one like you said.

Thank you sir

Rct3

Hi

I just bought the RCT3 for my son and install in DELL 755 dual core with Vista Home. However, the RCT3 will automatically suspended after we load the program. I try to follow your instruction however the one you provided is RCT3plus and it does not work in our situation. Is it possible you can give me some suggestions with RCT3.

Thanks:)

I need more information, you should start a new thread describing the problem and include the dxdiag report for your computer. To do this click Start then Run, type dxdiag and click Save all information. Then copy the contents of the saved text file into the thread you've created, these reports tend to be quite long so you'll need to split it over a few posts.

It will also be useful to know how far the game gets before it crashes? Do you have the updates installed? What happens if you try running the game without the disk in the driver?

Does this apply to ONLY Dell?

Hi,
I just built my onw computer and it is a screaming machine with the most expensive and high end bells and whistles that I could afford :D. However, I just purchased Platinum and am experiencing the same night time play lag as everyone else. Do I need to complete the steps listed in the previous directions and is this only for the Dell Dimension:confused:? Thank you!! :)

This fix isn't for performance, it fixes a crash with Securom and some Dual Core processors. As mentioned in reply to another of your posts, you need the Wild update 3 fix, unfortunetly this isn't compatible with the downloaded version of the game so you will need to contact Atari technical support.

Hi

I have RCT3 - not the platinum version. So when trying to carry out this patch as explained in this tread, the file i have already is called rct3 not rct3plus and it didnt work, is this because i have rct3 and not plus, and if so should i be using a different file to fix the problem.

I have an hp pavillion dv5 laptop running vista home premium with intel centrino 2 processor.

Please help. I miss playing RCT3. I do also have the soaked add-on pack but wanted to get the main game working first.

hmmmmm..

Erm, i tried it,
i dont know if i did it right, but i did it,
and it hasnt really helped :(
do you know anything else i can try?
thanks.
