After almost of a month (on and off) of trying every fix and suggestion out there (including the Securom fix more than once), I FINALLY was able to fix the problem of the game not running and having a runtime error. I wanted to share with everyone the EXACT way I fixed it, Step-by-Step, in hopes of helping others. You may want to copy and paste these instructions into a Word document and save (for future reference and so that you do not have to have your Internet Explorer running while performing this fix.)
1. Close/end all open windows and programs. Uninstall RCT3 Platinum (to start fresh)
2. After uninstalled completed, went to the following and deleted the “Atari” folder:
C:\Program Files\Atari
This removed any extra files that did not uninstall with the uninstaller.
3. Emptied my Recycle Bin (just to be sure everything was complete gone)
4. Installed RCT3 Platinum (NOTE: Do NOT run the game after installing. I’m not sure this had anything to do with anything, but for some reason, it might have made a difference.)
5. Now I followed the Securom directions, EXCEPT… the file names were slightly different from what others posted on the site):
a. Locate your RCT3plus file (it can be found at: C:\Program Files\Atari\RCT3plus).
b. Right click on the rct3plus, then click on properties.
c. Uncheck “read-only” and THEN rename the file in the box at the top to: RCT3plus.old
d. Click OK
e. Close/end all open windows and programs.
f. Download the file from (save to desktop): http://www.securom.com/support/customers/atari/RCT3_wild_t147/rct3plus.zip
g. Right click on downloaded zipped file on your desktop (rct3plus) and click on “Extract All…”
h. Click on Next (to go to the next screen)
i. Copy and Paste the following in box: C:\Program Files\Atari\RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum
6. Now Start RCT3 Platinum from the Start Menu-->Programs-->Atari-->RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum-->RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum
I am not making any guarantees, but if you follow these steps EXACTLY, you find some success and FINALLY be able to play the game. Good Luck and Enjoy!
PS: Please reply to this post if you got it work (and what computer you have). This will help others
Also if anyone has access to making this a sticky, I think it might be worth doing.
