After watching and reading many things on the topic of Odyssey being "Too dark", and while I agree that there are issues. I might interject that Arthur is correct in saying that it's not too dark. I find that it's the overall contrast of the lighting system.

It's either too dark, shadowing everything within range; or too light, washing out all the colour. This is very noticeable in the Holo-Me designer, where all hair colour is washed out (the dark red "Chestnut" looks like an orange shade, "Ginger" looks like strawberry-blonde). Additionally, the lighting doesn't work well with the eyes at all, either making the player look high as a kite in the light, or horrifically frightening in the dark (yet still kinda high looking, because there's a shade of red in the whites of the eyes).

How to fix this? I don't know, I'm not a programmer that knows the Cobra Engine. However, I would suggest more 'neutral' lighting inside of the station's commissary areas (of course having variants depending on other holo/light sources, just have the overall lighting more neutral). Having a very neutral balanced light in the Holo-Me and Store designers is a must.

What do others think: Am I way off base here? Should I submit this as a bug for better QA attention?

Yeah, I'm currently based in an agricultural station and in the concourse lighting is very bright and washed out; doesn't look great at all.

The lighting game seems to be something of a game of whackamole, fix the darkness for one spot and it makes another area too bright, and vice versa.

Rather than start yet another lighting thread I'm going to add my issue to this one.

Odyssey stations have very bad lighting in comparison to Horizons, the contrast is bad and it is washed out to the degree that sometimes you can't even see the difference between the red and the green direction markers on the mailslot. I'm goin to ping @Zac Cocken to give Sally a break but I'd love for this to be looked at.

Horizons for comparison, note how washed out everything is and also how harsh and blue the lighting is compared to the warmth of Horizons.

Here is the issue tracker link that I have added to:

If we get more people to confirm it would be helpful :)

Calling it "lighting issue" is a big understatement.

It's more "lighting and an entire color pallet off issue"... something had changed in the renderer to the core of the engine to cause this.

Now when ppl say lighting issue with every patch they tweak the gamma here and there - because they have 0 f$&&king idea how to fix the above renderer issue...

The only way to fix this is to get the people that worked on Horizons back on board and beg them to fix this hot mess

See my post above - the reason that it's whackamole is because they don't know how to address the core renderer issue so they tweak here and break there...

Lets be honest those devs have 0 idea how to handle the old code of horizons so they rather not touch it

Odyssey is a hot f&&&king mess.
