Well, it's open to doubt.

They told us so themselves :
So yes, they are selling an unfinished and undefined product at a fixed price.
Yes. They are. The game will be unfinished for 10 years and hopefully not even then so yes it will be unfinished.
Yes it is undefined... to us. They haven't told us exactly what will be released over the next year. Doesn't mean they don't know.
Now we've agreed with that can you stop harping on about it? Either buy it now or wait for more info when it comes out. They don't have to tell you everything and they won't... yes that might effect immediate sales as some people will chose to wait but that is what they have decided.
You aren't getting a definite roadmap. Live with it. Either wait till it's out or don't. Either way just give it a break...

Ah so you admit it's not built yet thus "unfinished" and you also admit they haven't told us all of what season two entails so again "undefined"... I don't see why your arguing this point?
Again..... you just admitted what they are selling us is unfinished and undefined...so why argue with what he is saying? It's okay to be okay with this and want to support FD but don't try and say he is wrong when clearly you admit he is not because it is equally okay not to be okay with this.
Somehow the post I with me explicity agreeing he was right get's attacked for saying he was wrong.
You sir win 1 internet. Well done.
I was referring to the new season/expansion, not the core game as it was released.
And sorry, but I can't help it - them trying to grab money on a teaser and some promises (as so many companies) bothers me.
Sorry if it's noisy.
This all goes back to Frontier's love of secrecy. If they just told us all the details, even if they couldn't delliver all of it...folks would stop assuming that they haven't figured it out.
That would sure be a start and ease some minds.
To be fair it is true of the core game and the expansion. Sorry to go off at you... you just got the backlash from every 's post I've read today.
I'm happy to give them money on a teaser and some promises as so far they have done right by me.

So this is all your fault. Darn..Heh, I'll take the blame for them doing that!I've been begging them to stop telling us what they're planning/doing and to start putting stuff into the galaxy for us to discover, without telling us about it.
I want us to find things in space through exploration and discovery rather than from reading press releases!
So, yeah, my bad, it's a shame it interferes with making a good sales pitch, but I'm unrepentantly going to keep on asking for some features to be kept secret![]()

I can totally understand that, but you also condone this kind of behaviour from video games companies by doing so - FD's intentions might be all heart and goodness, but it's still a shady marketing method that is becoming the norm.
If they told us what they planned and something changed or was delayed imagine he wailing and gnashing of teeth that would ensue. If I was them I wouldn't tell us anything either.

Airless rocks are "easier" to generate fractally - concentrating on the terrain realism, bounding geometry and structure placement. No good having structures if they float in the air because the terrain won't let them place properly. Same if your ship or scarab vanishes into the mesh as the surfaces are not defined cleanly.
AI is also needed for the various things that have been mentioned - we need AI for ground units, AI for air units, structure systems, bits and pieces of whatever these things are going to be made out of, and gameplay reasons for them to exist.
Once all that background work is done (and it's a huge task! broken AI will kill a game stone dead) and they have a functioning surface model - it's then a relatively simple (but still very complex) task to add atmospheric effects. Now you've got rocks with atmospheres and structures. Cities and flora/fauna are going to be very difficult - they can be procedurally generated, but at the 1:1 scale of Elite it's a frightening prospect - wish them all the best of luck!
I don't know, as a modder I never meet my deadlines and stay open about it. People usually understand and don't spam as many angry questions in my experience - but we're not at the same scale either. ^^
