Reduce the grind

If time invested is greater than the reward it's grind.
It's a game, you don't invest time in it. You play it, you have fun by playing it, and that's your reward. And at some point that game's servers will be shut down, or you will lose interest, and all that time you spent investing rather than enjoying will be wasted.
If you see playing the game as an obstacle on the way to having fun, you're not playing, you're working.

Reduce the grind?
Without wanting to sound like some old f*rt you should have been here at the beginning. 1000cr for a mission was good.....
I failed....
Im in the game since the beginning (jan 2015)
I don't like engineering and farming manufactured materials and data.
One way to reduce grind would be to be able to engineer every FSD (for example) once you have engineered one to g5 with reduced material cost (one roll for every grade) without the need to pin blue print or visiting an engineer

It's funny that almost everywhere else, this view on ED (in light of NMS update) is the consensus. On the ED forum it gets met with the usual desperate "there is no grind, it's all your own fault" reply. Meanwhile NMS is now a much better game than ED. MUCH better. Keep on arguing against ED's faults though while Hello Games continue building a better game and evidencing their superiority and commitment in improving their game.
That's just like... your opinion dude.

I dislike how ED does not have support for fight sticks, and an insufficient selection of characters with decent movesets to choose from, and no arenas in which to have them punch each other. The consensus in the entire Capcom Pro Tour community is that these features make games better. Please implement them, Frontier! Super Smash Bros is now a way better game than ED!

Good for you. But just because you don't like something doesn't make it a grind. But it is a perfect example of how the term is being used nowadays; a way to objectify an subjective opinion in the vain hope people fall for it and give it any more credence than it deserves. In any case, you not liking engineering has jack all to do with NMS, and your OP is either silly or insincere.

You can't because there's a lot of gameplay to accomplish. Not the same action over and over again for one day

You chose to do the same thing over and over, there are plenty of ways to get the same result. Dont point the finger when you cant take responsibility for your own choices. You like NMS better? Great! Good for you! But using NMS as an example of non-grind the very week plenty of gaming media print articles about how NMS remains a prime example of a grinding game is just weird. Just give your opinion if you feel the need to without hiding behind such non-arguments mate.

Ok ciao

So what's the formula? How much time is too much time vs how much reward?

P.S. You guessed it, I don't grind in Elite. Like other farts have said before me, let's bring back time vs reward anno 2015. hooowee, imagine the spectacle. Doom threads, steam charts, "I speak for the community" forum posts, demands of DB's head on a cup (oh wait)

I don't. I'm not engineering ships for example. I don't do what I don't like but I would do engineering if it required less effort

There are some that need fixing for sure, not saying otherwise. Generally though, I'd say engineering is fine. Gathering of certain materials and the trader need some love

i was just about to ignore You here

I would introduce material traders that trade between different type of material. In this way explorers for example could trade a lot of Polonium for other very rare manufactured materials or data

and HEY, great idea now, would be awesome, 10 virtual (y)

So your solution to what you perceive as grinding is to make sure you can get everything by doing one thing over and over again so you wont have to engage in a variety of different gameplay aspects? Are you sure you know what 'grinding' means?

It's these kinds of attempts at pedantry that get in the way of discussion.
To invest time is to spend time whether playing or working. You're attempting to make a disctinction with no material difference.

There's a resource outlay (in this case time) that yields some form of reward/return. That's LITERALLY what an investment is.
