Refueling Fleet Carriers

They should just allow the carrier to park next to a station or drydock and refuel directly from there, whilst in the bubble. Pay in credits for the fuel. Would make more sense, rather than some stupid CG styled grind. If a carrier can't move on demand, then it's useless as a megaship.

Out of the bubble, the carrier should just have its own fuel scoop and jump in next to a star or gas giant to refuel.

Having individual players flying their little rinky-dink ships to refuel a 20 milion ton tank with 120t per hop would be another unnecessary waste of player time.

Imagine going to a gas station, and then having to scoop fuel from a barrel with a tea cup, to refuel your car.

Games have to make some sort of sense too. And not grind for grind sake.

I hope that refueling fleet carriers uses actual fuel, albeit a LOT of fuel. Think of it - we could become 'oil tankers' in Elite! I can picture my Type-7 (love that ship) loaded with extra fuel tanks and a huge scoop, loading up on fuel at the local star, ferrying it to the fleet carrier, rinse and repeat. I suppose one could buy fuel at the station as well. Perhaps with the run on fuel, Frontier could raise 'gas' prices to match accordingly.

While this may sound dull to some, I think it beats having to harvest jumponium or something... Though you could add a cool mechanic to allow greater jump range based on fuel type and synthesis. Imagine harvesting neutron stars for greater FC jump range!

Anyway, for the sake of immersion and "fun" (I actually would enjoy ferrying fuel), I hope Frontier considers this option. Thoughts?

ps - This assumes FCs need refueling to begin with. I'm not sure the lore behind megaships not being able to scoop their own fuel. Too large for the gravity well, perhaps?
Yes, that's the same I was saying yesterday.
Imagine an explorer that own a fleet carrier because he want to explore in a DB-X and having a miner python with him to mine void opals in the remote corners of the galaxy. He will also need to take with him a Type-9 equipped with a Fuel Tanks and a Fuel Scoop 8A for a total of 600 tonnes of fuel refilled in roughly 6 minutes to refuel his fleet carrier.

Given AdamBW's use of the term "resources" in relation to Carrier jumping, we don't know what is required for Carriers to be able to jump - it could be hydrogen fuel, it could be materials (probably raw as manufactured are of limited regional availability in the galaxy) - it could be a combination, with some materials required to jump at all and others offering augmented jump range opportunities.

I'm hoping that basic jumps will be able to be achieved using hydrogen fuel and minimal (or no) materials.

I don't expect the Carrier to be fitted with a fuel scoop and be able to refuel itself - as I don't expect that Carriers will use Supercruise at all and will simply jump from normal space to normal space.

No matter how they do it people will complain !!!

I doubt if will be the same stuff that we scoop to our fuel tanks, but I hope it's some commodity that can be mined as well as bought. That will make it possible to move them around in the black.

I 100% agree with you but i would be crazy to think Frontier would miss an opportunity to put more TLA materials into the game, crazy i tell the....

To jump the fleet carrier you require;

10x Fleet Carrier fuel FCF - found from harvesting rocks on planets
5x Fuel Jump Cell FJC - This fragment of organic circuitry is of Thargoid origin. This item is found in the bodies of creatures known as Scavengers.
3x Fuel Feed Line FFL - Component found in ships: frequently used by hauler vessels
6x Industrial Fuel composites IFC - Specialist component developed during times of outbreak. Known to be salvaged from signal sources.
10x Mechanical Fuel valves MFV - Component found in ships: frequently used by combat oriented vessels
8x Electronic Fuel Controller EFC - Component found in ships: frequently used by passenger vessels
11x Fuel flow regulator FFR - Specialist component developed during times of outbreak. Known to be salvaged from signal sources.
5x Fuel level control FLC - Component found in ships: frequently used by trade vessels
2x Fuel cooling capacitor FCC - Specialist component developed during times of outbreak. Known to be salvaged from signal sources.
1x Elephant Butt leather EBL - Commonly found on some ships near stars

All this missed gameplay ^^

Well thankfully I have an infinite supply of Elephant Butt Leather, so as long as a material trader is handy, I can refuel my fleet carrier forever!
