Regards to VR support for Odyssey DLC

It would work as a quick fix, in the sense that the OP suggests, but it would not be a good VR experience ;)

The nausea aspect of VR can be overblown. There are plenty of locomotion options available now which have become standard and offer low/no nausea movement. The staples are controller relative & headset relative motion. Most noobs find them a bit uncomfortable at first but quickly adapt. Almost every VR game out there with first person walking offers them as standard now.

It’s pretty clear that the impediment to FDev adding VR is not precisely stuff like this, which has off the shelf solutions. It’s the performance, the UI, the interaction norms, the PvP balancing with classic control schemes etc etc. It’s a ton of dev to get all that to a decent standard.
I doubt its really about nausea since that's addressed in many games so far, but more likely a conflict of gameplay elements, stuff that would either be too hard to make work in VR or wouldn't work for balance reasons. They did mention a couple of times that it could 'take away from the experience' suggesting that there's stuff that's in it that will be hard to make work in VR. I just feel like alot of people will be pleased to at least play with the DLC without having to log out and boot the game up again in pancake mode every time they disembark somewhere.

Oh sorry yeah, I wasn’t talking about your / OP’s solution there. I was talking more about the difficulties of VR evangelism :D

No worries CMDR, no offence taken. I would just love for the VR peeps to be able to go FP without the need to remove their headsets. Else they might (as I would in their 'shoes') go bonkers.

Sure Babelfisch, but removed fromOdyssey all together, I guess is what I meant.
And since expansions all operate as separate modules via the launcher (Aka if you want to play Horizons content, you have to launch the Horizons module from the launcher), it means Odyssey will not have any VR whatsoever even in the normal cockpit. So a VR player has to straight up not buy Odyssey if they wish to keep using VR.

Unless he plays Horizons with VR and starts Odyssey without VR whenever he feels like walking around.
Sure, it's far from optimal but still possible. In the meantime let's hope that VR support gets added after launch.

Your phrasing makes it sound as if purchasing Ody will remove VR from the game. It would have been more accurate to have written: "it means that they should not buy Ody if they cannot accept playing the DLC without VR support. If they want to keep using VR, they can still buy Ody but will only be able to use VR if they launch with the Horizons option from the menu."

I think they’ve been pretty clear on that front:

I went through the Thursday stream, and there's a minor glimmer of hope there regarding post-launch support. I'd be wary of reading too much into it though. It was some quick phrasing from Stephen while dealing with an angry mob & streaming the game ;)

UploadVR got this further info from FDev:

If you load Odyssey you will not be able to use VR.
If VR is supported, it will be in 1 or 2 years minimum after the release of Odyssey.

I fear it from what I read.

And this is the main issue.

Even if they will add VR eventually (which is anything but a given), it will take a lot of time.
And this after we had to wait so long for this expansion already.

I was so excited about the “Next Era” and now it’s like a punch in the stomach.
I’m not sure if I will be able to keep my excitement another two years.
I probably won’t - especially, as VR support is just a possibility and not even a certainty. Hope only carries so and so far ...
