RegulatedNoise - trade tool with zxctypo's best-in-class OCR (EliteOCRReader as-was)

THINKING OUT LOUD

Is the focus on Trading dangerous goals, cant play , well yes, but RN has the data. I don't know but are the coder , optimizing RN for RN or Trading dangerous EDDN features , like the starmap & such ?

I like RN for the quickness and SAVING to local database with the Web server feature , yesterday when out and brought a tablet to do just that. Yet to get it happening , tried everything all different versions RN is still crashing

Maybe a basic RN Web server feature version ,for Win 7 64 PC , without all the bell & whistles

EDIT got the Web server working on my PENDO ,with ver 1.82 cool. no more Alt Tabbing or not as much & then have voice attack put thruster at 100% when I'm docked , cause of some key I've pressed, so when I take off I'm just dangerous , happening last night doh!, but survived Lucky no ships around.
With thoughts on above post , I just believe in the old school of thought "KISS" keep it simple stupid, complex systems are inherently unstable ( when its code)

I had to reinstall ED, and now my log files arent being read. How can I edit the location after the initial install? That is, the current system isnt being read.

Make sure RN is not running.
Go into the folder where your copy of RN is downloaded.
Find the file called "RegulatedNoiseSettings.xml" and delete it. (or rename it if you want to keep your old settings - you can open xml up in any old text editor)
Start RN back up and you will be prompted.

Hope that helps.

@maxh2003 There's an new feature for you. Add the ability to go through the startup settings procedure while the program is running.

Ok it's working again, Thank you kindly. You are indeed a gentleman and a scholar! I think you have put together a tremendously useful tool for my explorations...if you're ever in Phoenix I owe you a cold one!

Thanks for great tool! It really helps!

Feature request: add Max jump distance filter to the Best Round-trip finder.

I had a crash with 1.81 on launch of the EXE. Saw this bug report:
https://github.com/stringandstickytape/RegulatedNoise/issues/45

I fixed it by deleting all the log files from my ED log directory. I later found out that the tool crashes when it trys to find the system name that you are in but fails because you have not launched ED yet and so there is no entry for it to find yet in the logs.

At least that is what I think is going on. Hope that helps.

I'm getting high CPU usage on v1.82 when the app is running but not doing anything (no OCR, webserver, or EDDN). Uses 25% CPU when the game is running, 50% when the game is not. Version 1.8 had zero CPU usage when it wasn't processing anything.

Can confirm higher CPU usage.

Did some quick tests on the more recent versions watching processes tab in Task manager.
Program was run and left to sit on startup page without being touched. Monitored for 2 minutes each time.
All percentages are continuous, not spikes.

1.80: 0% CPU
1.81: 8% CPU
1.82: 8% CPU

Definitely a change there.

AH !! "KISS" keep it simple stupid, small is beautiful , the two version solution RN lite & the RN with Trading dangerous :)

12.46% RN Open Web Server running

I'm probably getting higher CPU usage than others because I'm using a Core 2 Duo E8500 (which, surprisingly, runs the game really well with a good video card).

Okay, so after using RN for a while, I've concluded that using the OCR system is just more effort than it's worth for me. (It's still a fair sight better than entering it all manually, though.) But I like everything else about the program, and OCR isn't the only way to get data into it, so that leads me to my two questions below:

1: From what I can gather, the EDDN listener only picks up data uploaded by other users while it's running. Is that correct? So if I want it to soak up EDDN data, I should just leave it running in the background?

2: Are there any good sites for downloading CSV files of collected EDDN data that I can import? Especially if I can filter it by system?

Yes... but... it would be sensible to close and re-open the app at the moment - if it crashes after a long period of data capture, you'll lose the lot :-/

I added the "spool to file" option on the EDDN tab so people could record what's being sent... but I haven't written an importer for such files yet.

Not that I know of, but it's an interesting idea in and of itself...

I'm getting a "INF Cr/Ly" between 2 stations in the same system on the best round trip. What's this? bug i guess?
And then no actual trade data on what to trade between them.

What's wrong with the ocr? it takes just seconds to use it?

Head over to the EDDN thread. There are multiple commanders archiving data and making it available - 3 atm. Most of the time JSON format. Themroc of eddb scrubs the data (removes faulty ones) and makes it available once a day I believe. If you have a specific need perhaps like csv perhaps this can be provided. Just ask in the thread (see my sig or profile).

I'm really struggling to get RN working reliably - which is a shame, because when it works, it's really helpful.

The root of the problem is that some times the OCR works well, but most other times it just hangs on an image, and sits there 'doing nothing'.

Two questions:

1. How do I un-stick the OCR, and make it move on from the current image it's working (not working) on, to the next one. (I can quit the app and restart, but that's a bit naff imho)
2. Am I missing something simple? (I've done the calibration and all looks good.)

All thoughts very welcome!

EDIT: I've just noticed that shutting v1.81 down when it's stuck doing OCR doesn't actually stop it, it just relegates it to a background process - one currently consuming 60% of a quad core Intel chip.

Cheers,
H

The OCR is improving all the time ,Soon I will be able to tell RN to import automatically. I've used BPC & EliteOCR , & it's more like work than play , takes forever , RN is faster by far

No other program allows you to run a Tablet to view YOUR data in game RN has a in built Server, works well. I have a PENDO , it allows me to go into RN sort through my data then stay in game ,& still check my trades in RN without Alt Tabbing ever few minutes,
I'm now using the Galaxy map more efficiently as the names of Systems are their on my TABLET to remember & spell in correctly to find the distance when using the Commodity Tab, to trade.

Feedback is important
ERRORS are pounces on by the DEV who are working on RN, without sleep or rest for days on end :D
In short this is the best of all the TOOLS around , & will only get better
