I think you will find Elite OCR sometimes confuses "6" and "8" because the ED font is not really very good for these numbers.

Have you trained Elite OCR as per seeebek's (the creator of Elite OCR) instructions? I found this helped considerably but it does not eliminate all the "6" and "8" errors. Also, sometimes re-scanning the page will correct the errors or you can do it manually.

Rob
Thanks Rob,
I just finished with the OCR training, and out of 5 individual screen shots, only 1 error was observed. That's pretty good considering the amount of characters are examined.

It should do the job fine now.

From Eventure's comments, I was only interested in being able to drag the game scroll bar one line at a time, to avoid overlapping scans, the way the interface is placed on the edge, you just can't see the in game scroll bar any more.

If the panel obsure the scrollbar and you are already at a border, then reduce the zoom level of the panel in 5% steps, till it fit.

Nope - didn't fix it - I just moved the cartography panel and it's gone black again :(

In the main, I think a lot of the problems I was having were fixed by a re-install. However, I am still getting the black cartography screen quite frequently. Has anyone else had this issue ?

Did you tried to deactivate the standard panel display mode at the Options panel?

This has probably been covered somewhere in the 26 pages of discussion, but why is Excel being used, rather than something like SQLite? Or something else equally open/free?

Standard panel is turned off in Options.
If I turn it on it gets very bad.
I still have the black screen on Cartography though - has anyone else had this issue ?

Only Cartography? The whole Personal Logbook panel have the exact preferences as the Cartography panel (same structure and size). Can you post a screenshot of it?

Any other user having deactivated the standard panel display mode?

May have found a bug, or I did something wrong. The past two systems I jumped in gave me this error. No clue what it means. I forgot to mention I am on Excel 2016, but it did work fine last night for about 20 systems. Also, forgot using version 1.53.2 and on Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I can't say for sure, what the problem is, but it seems an issue with the automatic selection of reference stars. Could you continue by selecting the reference stars manually?

At first, it would always give the excel error. After another jump or two I was able to manually select stars. I guess it doesn't matter which stars are selected? There was many to pick from. Right now, the automatic selection seems to be working. It's a bit slow, but works. What I did was left my home area heading to Ceos (about 450ly) I was adding the stars to the database when it started giving the excel error. I would fuel at the sun, so there was no stations landings or anything. Just jumping from star to star. BTW is the ly distance for the last known star system supposed to be red. It used to be white when adding stars. Like a positive, negative thing is happening with the numbers. I'm back into my home area where the last known system numbers were always white. I do some testing and see if it turns back to white.

I will add a better error reporting with the next release to check, where the error happens exactly.
When a red distance is displayed, it shows you, that the last known star system is more distant than your FTL drive can jump. That can be common, if you dont added the last star system, you visited or one or more entered values for the reference star systems are wrong.

Hi again !
I'm back with new errors.. (sorry)

First of all I'm having a message error poping every time I save a new station

ErrorStationx3.png

The message pops three times, but it doesn't seems to have an influence, the station is saved and I can continue to play normally.

But sometimes I got some others errors that completely corrupt TCE

ErrorStation.png
A message pops for every table (Stars, Station, Goods and so on) and then TCE closes. Whenever I tried to launch TCE again, it's unable to charge the db and I can't do anything in game.

I also got a window that opens when charging TCE

OLEDB.png

We're using a ftp with a friends to share our db, is that a problem link to our ftp server ?

I both try to use TCE 1.53 and TCE 1.53.2, it seems to be a bit more stable on 1.53 but we still got the errors in the end.

Sorry for bothering you again... ^^'

Awesome tool. Agree this kind of functionality should be built in to E:D

I'd love to know more about this too. The OP has done a great job, but the dependence on Excel is such a shame. Are there good reasons for this or was it more a case of it will do the job & was to hand? I'm a bit surprised no one has tried to remove the dependency, though I also haven't read this whole thread. Here's hoping FD see sense or a gamer with the necessary skills feels like forking this.

All errors indicates to a problem with the database (TCE.mdb). Please check the log file at the LOGS folder, if TCE up/downloads the database correctly.
In addition run TDM on your database. It will remove any database issues. Thereafter make a short testrun without using the FTP feature. If it is working, reactivate the FTP feature to check, if the errors came back.
Unfortunately this feature isn't often used, so there are only few reports of problems.
Perhaps you can upload the database before TDM usage, so I can check its entries.

It's quite easy to explain. I'm a hobby coder and my work needed some selfwritten apps with Excel and VBA. One come to another and I created this app.
Had some tries with VB.Net but all ended with no success. I didn't have the time to get familiar with it.

Hi ! Thx for the answer !

The up/down logs seems to be okay ! I link them if you just want to take a look.

Should the TCE.mdb locate in the TCE/DB folder ? 'Cause I can't find it

Yes, it should be at the DB folder. Please check, if the file is on the FTP server named as TCE.rar.
I will check the routines and will add a small info panel on FTP access.

Thanks for the response. I used to code for a hobby, so I get where you're coming from. Any idea where one can buy a cheap (legit) copy of Excel?

So,

I tried to play without the ftp and it's working fine ! The only actual problem is that OLE DB access that prevent me to use TCE

Hmm.... i getting this error, if I have the database opened for a manual edit. Can you open the database manually at the DB folder?
Did you installed the additional runtimes for access to fix the issue?
