Joined the forums to post about this and found someone has already! I just updated to 1.4 and I'm getting horrible framerate drops in SC as well, it was fine before the update. I've tried low-ultra settings it makes no difference, the game is 100% smooth except for when I go into SC.

I'm playing with in VR on Oculus Rift as well. My system is AMD 8350 @4ghz, 8gb 1800mhz DDR3 Ram and GTX970SC. I watch my FPS with MSI Afterburner and I can see it slowly dropping, it starts at 75fps and slowly drops right down to 40fps before I drop out of SC and it goes back up to 75fps. It's almost like a memory leak with VRAM?

As said it doesn't matter what graphics settings so it must be a bug introduced in this patch. I used to get slight drops when passing a planet and at the Galaxy Map, these seem to have cleared up and replaced by this horrible frame drop in SC which makes head tracking really uncomfortable. It's going to make this game hard to play in VR unless fixed :(

By the way I'm using SDK 6 in Extended Mode (I think Direct Mode/SDK7 is not yet supported?)

When the game is under 75fps, if you have Vsync ON, the next sync will be 75/2, so your game run at around 37fps, and that's horrible ;) With VSync off only when you're under 75fps (adaptive vsync) you can have 74fps, 73fps, etc. Off course that can generate some tearing on your screen, but it's far better than falling to 37fps. I see this huge improvement on stations on previous ED versions where fps where falling under 75.

I have currently NVidia drivers 355.60 with Win7. I need to try new version...

I have already posted DXdiag several times and opened 3 tickets regarding beta. they simply have chosen not to fix it at this point. Apparently us VR users are such a small minority they don't consider it priority.

For those with no stutter in SC since 1.4 released!

Since 1.4 beta and now release I experience terrible frame rate drop only in SC after 2-3 minuets which goes away if I drop out and jump back into SC. Apparently some of you are not experiencing this. I suspect it may be limited to those of us with GTX 970-980 cards. For those of you who are working could you please share what video card specs you have as well as driver version? Thank you all for your help.

Hi all yeah its not vsync ive messed about with it and problem still persists. its a bug it dont matter what graphical settings you have elite on the head tracking is butter smooth but as soon as you move your head everything goes into double triple vision.

My GeForce gtx 970 runs lovely at the moment I did a bench mark test and found a vid on YouTube and changed the 3D settings and my min fps went from 17 to 26 and the max was around 94 fps. At the moment ED runs at a steady 60fps drops a little when on Galaxy map. Just need to sort a way to chart a coarse to a station can only pick up the main star at the moment no biggie

60fps is terrible though :(

I really hope this stuff will run better on the Vive... this won't cut it for a consumer launch.

I think MrBlob doesn't realise he is in the Virtual Reality forum, 60FPS is terrible. Bottom line is everthing was silky smooth in 1.3, I had settings on Ultra and textures increased in the config files. FPS is still fine, no lag at all in stations or asteroid fields..random stutters in SC need to be fixed along with the broken SMAA

As soon as I stay a while in SC the DK2 seems to drop out of low persistence mode. At least that's what it looks like. Borders on unplayable.
Might correlate with the number of other ships in the area.
Didn't have that problem in 1.3 at all.

GTX 980, 1.5x Supersampling (in game).

Plays just the same as 1.3 for me.

Ships spawn in SC .. game slows.

I don't think it's to do with the ships, am out in the Sothis region and the game still slows down in SC. It seems to be related to time flown in Supercruise. Definitely a bug, if you open/close the menu or go into the gal map and close it again... Even drop out of SC and go back, the FPS returns to normal

I think it has something to do with preparation for horizons... maybe the new newsletter gives some more clarification!

I also have the same issue - 1.4 is unplayable in VR at the moment.

I think it is playable but you have to think about what you want to do.

obviously exploration and trading are probably out, but maybe this could be the nudge you need to try out mining,

also RES pirate hunting and warzones work fine, not to mention CQC.

so long as it gets sorted in the next week or so its not such a worry imo (unless you happen to be at sagA, then your only option is CQC)
