Roadmap after release

Yeah most if not all of those are fire fighting posts since the launch but not engaging the community in general discussions about Elite and its future.

I imagine that a lot of that went on during the beta but they have picked up a whole host of new people since then who did not take part in the beta/gamma/lickstarter process and so now frontier have whole extra community to engage with. That is what I mean when I say lacking in communication and engagement.

If you or anyone else feel differently that is fine I just happen to have another perspective and opinion.

I wasn't part of the Lickstarter! :(

Plenty of examples about actual game mechanics or similar discussions with devs so far. Just search for the ones where Sandro Sammarco discussed FSD slaving and wing mechanics in December for example.

Going forward I would expect at least the same kind of great engagement. No reason to doubt just yet. We just cant expect ground breaking and revolutionary dev posts every minute.

Come on man, where's your sense of EPICALLDAYERRYDAY? Isn't every single second of your existence just burgeoning with sparkly potential of the highest order? If not then you must be living in that Real World I keep hearing about.

Also letting people have some info gives the players something to look forward to which is a really good way to keep people playing.

Exactly this. The Dev Diaries did a great job of doing just that. The newsletters have been much more tight lipped, and obviously lack David's personal touch and charisma.

We will be revealing more information on what is coming in the next few weeks.

Again, I can use my incredible code-breaking skills for the good of humanity!

Take the first letter of each of Michael's words...

Then rearrange them:

I CONFIRM - IT B WWWW

This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that Frontier Developments is adding a fourth "W" to the World Wide Web! Imagine the possibilities! Mind... blown. And you read it here first!

With the magic of internets, this will now be blown out of proportion into a statement claiming that Frontier will be running subscriptions due to the apocalypse. Followed by questions of how the servers will be managed in post-apocalyptic conditions.

They will use the DayZ servers -_-

It doesn't need to be an explicit 'roadmap'. Even vague bullet points of 'what we are looking at in Q1 2015', 'what we are looking at later in the year' and 'where we'd like to go in the future' would be better than all of the endless speculation and 'this game is empty - I'm leaving' posts.
.
Remember the alpha stages as outlined? (IIRC) '1. Single player combat, 2. Multiplayer combat, 3. Travel and Trade, 4. Outfitting' No timetable, no real details regarding content, just broad headings of what to expect and the order. Surely that is feasible? And we can avoid 'blowing things out of proportion' with some massive 'subject to change' caveats?

Look, I'm a software Product Manager by day...

The general public will NEVER see a roadmap for ED - I mentioned this before - here - http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=85063&highlight=roadmap

However I cannot vouch for the public facing team, such as marketing... who seem to have either found the wrong product, or simply have no clue.

It's a new year lets hope for some fresh faces in the ED team as the Product has awesome potential, but I do grow tired of the poor customer facing team who keep dragging the product into the gutter.

Couldn't agree with the op more. For example, I've been playing since launch and had never even heard of the pilot federation, a staple of the story of this game.

So many oversights...

Do you kickstart all the Software you manage?

Unfortunately a published roadmap would be seen as nothing less than a contractural obligation by the more vocal here - as such, publishing it would be an act of insanity by Frontier.

If you want to see what a roadmap failure would look like, check the internet for E: D offline mode. That change alone should make ANY company wary of making any statements about a game they are developing.

or just do some patching and get 1.4 out that will change the tone of the forums. PPl will always find something to whine abot, fix influence that way the metagame and cooperative angle can get going, fix loot from wanted criminals / wanted npc kills so if u kill a pirate u get the loot which can be sold at a station any station

I don't really think there is much of anything they can do that is going to change the tone of the forums. It seems that at its core the tension is between the people that think the bulk of the development time and dollars should go to enhancing the pvp / player interaction part of the game and the people that think it should have been a single player game and want the development focus to be on non player interaction problems and content. In trying to please everyone they have seemingly pleased very few and set the community against itself.

Nope, I manage healthcare software.

I did add to the kickstart though, as I loved Elite as a boy, When DBOBE asked for help in getting a next gen version out it was a no brainer! I did not pick the staff though!

Total craziness. Release = Dec 16, they tell everyone they are off for the holidays. The holidays are over for one day, and people are looking for the Pitchforks and Torches. I doubt anyone posting here would/could be productive enough to meet the demands they put on others. The phrase is: Unrealistic Expectations.

I think if you look at the available info from FD, you will see just what you are looking for, except without the Forum Drama.

It's Simple, you have an 'on call' person to keep the customers (who purchased the product) informed - However that never happened and it does frustrate me somewhat

Surely the crazy part of that is the "here's the game, I'm off" part.
