Roadmap after release

Why would they give us a roadmap?

The outcry of the community would just make them change their minds like other things here.

It is regrettable

Seeing an "Elite" pilot at all should be an awe-inspiring moment. And if you do see a high-ranked pilot, they won't be chugging along in a Sidewinder or flying an authority vessel. We should expect them to be able to dictate the terms of the engagement nine and a half times out of ten - these characters have survived thousands of combats and encounters to get to where they are, and will have a plan for every eventuality.

I assume that the NPC generator has a normal distribution for pilot rankings, which needs tweaking to make high ranks much more rare than they currently are, and it's not even fair to talk about the AI for high ranking NPCs yet - they should have many creative behaviours to stay alive, besides being combat aces and having top of the line ships.

Absolutely. The existing NPC grades should only go up to Competent, with the "Elite" Anacondas maybe rating "Dangerous".

Shield cells really need to go, or the NPCs need to start spamming the, like they are going out of fashion. They were a terrible, potion-chugging idea that has no place in Elite.

If something like that is needed, call it a shield re-charger, and it's a module with significant weight that adds to the reload speed of shields and reduces their down-time. Balance it to be non-essential, but useful enough that a pure figter may want one.

Personally I'm not after a concrete development schedule. But:-
1) They must have definites they are working on. eg: Multiple slots, more ships, misc enhancements. If they could give us a rough list (with rough dates) great.
2) They must have general plans of what they will work on. eg: Modifications to combat. Improvements to NPCs. Enhanced missions. More (any!) interesting stuff to find while exploring.

Personally I just wan't some peace of mind that there's a lot more work going to be put into the project, and now that it's released it's not simply winding down.

I loved the combat in B1.06. Even after weeks I was still learning tricks to things. Then B2 came along and seemed to simplify it.

Doesn't this show the need that only one shield cell generator should be permitted? I assume the Viper in the video had numerous?

Do NPCs ever use them? Or they there just to allow CMDRs to have an easier life against NPCs?

Agreed. The way ships handled before all the various FA off nerfs was nice, and the TTK, to me was in a pretty great spot, where you wouldn't get instagibbed, but you could still die fairly quickly if you got cocky.

I mean... ignoring the lag, this used to be what would happen if you got cocky and sat in front of an Anaconda.

And taking a full load of homing missiles to the face was no laughing matter, either

And PVP didn't just turn into shield potion chugging contests

I would really appreciate it if Frontier could bring some of the things that made Beta 1.06 special back.

The FA-off infinite boost speed bug definitely has to stay away. That was a terrible thing, now luckily fixed.

To make this happen we’re expanding the team working on the game so that we can maintain a regular schedule of updates as well as working on paid expansions.

We’ll also be having beta test periods for these major updates and access to these will be open to players who already have beta access for the game. More details on this will be revealed in the coming weeks.

Very good news!

Agreed on that issue. Beta 1.06 was by no means perfect, but I still find it preferable to a lot of the other issues that we have now.

Yes. We need the challenge and complexity back. I can't imagine why they dumbed things down. The complexity and challenge _is_ the game.

Dev road-map

Since i'm tired of the constant debates as to what Frontier Devs have and haven't promised can we just cut the B.S and get a Dev map?

Would be nice if frontier announced their long-term plan for E:D. They're committed to expansions and wings is coming but beyond that we're sort of left ignorant here. Would be nice to here a clear and explicit plan on whats going to be added in and how they're going to attempt to do it.

If they do, they will be murdered each time they miss a deadline or change a detail.

You've noticed the high level of reasoned debate here, right?

Sorry, hasn't been paved yet...

Yeah people will hate on them for missing deadlines but honestly people will hate on every and anything. To be honest dates/deadlines are less my concern as much as what the actual content they intend to add is and how it'll function.

i mean - Frontier has to have some sort of internal business plan for what they're willing to re-invest in the game (and i'm sure thats subject to change depending on how the game does). While i'm not so naive to desire them to just release said plan it'd be great if they actually put forward more of a comprehensive statement as to where they want E:D to go.

The one youtube video on "The future of ED" was hella vague.

i mean the thing is given that they've committed themselves to a degree of updates/wings/expansions its somewhat frustrating not having a sense of what else. For example: Will the factions actually expand into uninhabitated systems? What level of customization for ships interiors and exteriors is going to be done? Details on additional ships-to-come.

i mean lets be brutally honest - Elite Dangerous is selling itself based on the promise to expand. it is not selling itself soley on what is in the game right now. Thats fair enough - but then it'd go a long way for Frontier to be more upfront with their intentions.

Is there any roadmap that displays future functionalities?

Hey,

I was wondering if there was anywhere to see a published and semi-official expected feature roadmap, with added functionalities/game mechanics coming in which future releases, and so on?

Thanks.

Development Roadmap - Can we get a little more transparency?

I think many of us are eager to know what the roll-out plan is for features and what's higher priority than others. Is there any way you can share a list with us? We all appreciate the newsletters but it would be nice to have a broader view of the future, even if it's limited to bullet points. The newsletters would still be the source of more detail when said feature is close to beta or release implementation. Obviously planned features change or change priority but it would be great to have some idea what's coming.
