[RP] Project Mercury: Reverse-Engineering a Thargoid Sensor to contact the Aliens

Greetings CMDRs!


Given that we currently have no in-game methods of contacting the Aliens known as Thargoids, I propose we at least make sure that FDev realizes there are CMDRs who attempt to do this on an RP level.


Using the scientific methods available to us thanks to the efforts of Canonn Interstellar Research, we have been able to reverse-engineer a UA, and encode a message to the Thargoids in the sound patterns emitted by the Thargoid Sensors:

In fact, I propose to initiate Project Mercury: an attempt to establish communications and a dialogue with the Thargoids, for the betterment of humankind (in particular to increase our chances of survival in the upcoming conflict). See also

The data shown to you above should convince you (and FDev) that Canonn actually posesses the technological means to alter a Thargoid Sensor in this way. Now we just need to deliver these altered TSs to the Thargoids, and hope they respond.

This is a very cool idea. I hope fdev implement this or something like it. To me it doesn't make sense that no official or formal attempt has been made at establishing contact.

Finally something interesting !!! Maybe this way the thargoids can be interesting.

Maybe to create a private initiative to start dialogue and in the future even to ally to some faction of thargoids to create a new power in the Galaxy.

This is a fantastic idea. I'm all for peacful contact/co-operation/trade etc. with any interested thargoids!

A CG to create the device would be a great way to introduce it.

In the meantime I suggest visiting as many alien bases as possible and scanning the sensors for information... We don't know what alien imprints are, but if thargoids are more animal than sentient I'd suggest the more they imprint on you, the more likely a peaceful outcome.

What I am curious about: should humans and thargoids work out a way to communicate, what message would we want to send?

I know this is the next step. But I think it would be good to think about a way how to find a common message for the Thargoids some time ahead.

I'd say to them: "First: Stay away from our Escape Pods! Second: Let's talk about the Barnacles." I alway have been the more pragmatic guy :p

Don't be a party pooper, besides, Fdev could let us talk to the thargoids and it doesn't have to change what they have planned, the goids can just ignore, or not even understand, our attempts to communicate.

So how can we practically contribute to this? What is the next steps? Are you planning on taking an Thargoid Sensor into an nonhuman signal source and jettisonning it and playing that audio message?

Is there such little content in game you have to imagine you are doing something, in the game? I mean I don't walk up a local hill and pretend I'm on everest do I!!

Yep :) Thargoids invented that (it's from FFE, not 100% still Lore, until it is!).

In 'Out of the Darkness' ...
...we see that Thargoids (active in 3270's in the Peregrina system) can and do talk to and work with humans, they not only can understand human speech, but it's possible for humans to talk to them in Thragoid "clicking and chittering" by making the sounds - though the person doing that was cybernetically enhanced, and I imagine it's probably not much better than baby talk to Thargoids. Not only that, they can also build things for humans to use and live in, so they have a deep understand of our biology, as evidenced by ripping the heart out of someone (they clearly knew where the heart is and what it does!).

in short - Thargoids in ED Lore (the novels are Lore), are entirely capable of not only understanding human language, they understand human psychology and are capable of understanding how humans will react to things.

Given this, a project to talk to them should be definitely attempted, and I sincerely hope that Fdev allow this to move forward!
