Newcomer / Intro Sad short (gameplay) story

XBox has the chatpad if you play with the controller. Or a normal usb keyboard
The chatpad is nothing short of brilliant since it attaches directly to the controller and has some xtra functions (volume buttons for headphones, take screenshot and take movie dedicated keys, etc)

It was there from Horizons introduction - it is certainly shown on page 156 of the manual v2.0 (Horizons update) which file is dated Dec 2015 on my PC.

EDIT - redid the crop so the image includes @Chris Simon's point about finding the garage in a port.

P.S. I see their "role switch interface" is rather more polite than "crotch UI panel"? ;)

Wooah what what? Wait.

How do you drive your SRV while your ship is docked at a port? You dock first and drive? I didnt know this? Duuuh, I gotta go try.

yep. Dock & deploy - it is most fun in the big circular cities, or at engineers.

Remember to not shoot at anything within the no-fire zone.
Which means you have to drive 7km (4miles?) away from the garage before you can mine anything. The fine is not that high, though.

Been there done that at an engineers base, the fine wasn’t an issue but being refused access was, I had too drive out of the no fire zone and summon my ship to me then fly back to pay the fine.

Yeah, the first time I went out tooling around in the SRV, I saw that I was running low on fuel, and was finding nothing to scoop up, so I headed back to the ship. Parked in the garage, hit the "park the car" button...and nothing. Hmmm...back out of the garage, check my alignment, pull back in, hit the button...nothing.

This went on for about 10 minutes, then I get the "You are about to run out of fuel and Die" message...Oh Bloody Hell...luckily, I vaguely remembered that I could synth fuel for the SRV, so I go to the "Make Fuel" page, Make Fuel, and start the "Parking the D@#M CAR' sequence again. Nope...Not having it. Another few minutes goes by and I happen to look down at the lower right of the screen...I see the Board Ship box is dark. Thinking, "Well Yeah, that is what I want to do", I hit the gas accidently and the SRV gooses forward. The Board Ship box lights briefly and then goes out (because I went too far).

SHWEEEET!!!!! I back up slowly and the little box turns a lovely shade of blue. I then hit the "park the car" button and the ship takes me into it's loving embrace.

Elite Dangerous....Because Elite Easy just doesn't sound as much fun.

Wait wait wait. Is it possible to deploy the SRV also on an orbiter station? Nope, right ? Just on planet ones?
No you cannot deploy in a space station, if you want to drive in one of those then you will have to deploy the SRV on a planet then with the help of friends fly it into space and through the station slot.

I was doing a planetary mission yesterday, and I'd never tried turret mode before, so I gave it a go. My problem then was I couldn't find any way to get out of it again...

Luckily it was in Ceos / Sothis, so there were plenty of people around I could ask - it's the left stick that needs clicking on a control pad.

B*stards still threw me in a prison station 400Ly away, and I had to work my way back again - during which I was almost stranded and out of fuel, considering a call to the Fuel Rats, because I've never restricted my routes to scoopable stars - I was able to find a very close star I could scoop from, which was damn lucky !

Lol...brave lad admitting this. I'm sure along with forgetting limpets and fuel scoops this is legend!@

Small note. I didn't know about the G reading on the hud displaying the planets gravity till months after I'd started playing...sure I'm not alone on this boop

What? Gravity's on the HUD? Damn...I must be blind as a bat!

Gravity is shown lower right on the HUD.
