SDC Operation spicy-bois featured on kotaku and eurogamer

Arguably, there is not really any controversy around The Code any more

I'm guessing that's because PvP piracy has been hit hard over the last year or so (long range smuggling, cargo bugs, combat logging increase etc)... Or it's because with the arrival of SDC, everyone finally realised the Code actually play the game in a way that provides decent player interaction.

Group whose sole reason is to make unprovoked attacks on ships not rigged specifically for combat come up with reason to make unprovoked attacks on ships not rigged specifically for combat after making such attacks and post about doing so to cause controversy.

Boring.

Actually, I would argue that the turning point for the Code came with two things which happened around the same time back in september 2015 (I'm sure Gluttony is going to arrest me here).

First was that they demonstrated that they were willing to enforce that their members actually followed the piracy code they have made. But more importantly, after initial controversy, The Code's involvement in the Hutton Mug rare community goal and subsequent events with the Hutton Truckers turned out to be a great example of emergent game play, at least for some.
The doings of SDC probably didn't hurt though.

And the whole reason being, of course, that the heat meta builds are the only thing that have been successful at thwarting the attacks of single SDC players. I remember a certain wizard crying and combat logging in a video not so long ago.. hell yeah, the SDC wanna nerf what can kill them ;)

What is all the fuss over this so called "heat meta" the only Cmdrs complaining seem to be the Cmdrs who most of the open Cmdrs would rather not meet. I enjoy flying in open always chat to any Cmdrs I come across and have never attacked any unless they attack first, and yes my loadout is full of "heat meta" weapons. Have come across SDC members when they where doing there in station ramming dirty deeds, have seen there streams so cannot believe they want to nerf the only protection the lone Cmdr has against any Cmdrs who's sole interest is to ruin other peoples enjoyment.

By the way, I do enjoy the irony that SDC themselves have to tell others how notorious they are.

So I admit, there is silver lining. :)

it wont let me rep you any more :( lmao

>>>>>>> They certainly have nothing to do with (in my personal opinion) mildly unpleasant in-game player strategies.

says it all really

You might actually want to research your statements. If you did you would find that most of the PVP groups have had problems with the heat meta since it was in beta.

Disappointed with the Kotaku fluff piece, especially as they bandy the word Terrorism about like its a cool thing to do.

Likewise. When instant ship transfer was the real controversy, big enough to cause thousands of players to get involved on the forums, and warrant a poll from the developers, I couldn't find a single word online. Now there's a small player group action which can be associated to a SEO keyword easily, BOOM! articles everywhere.

because "terrorism" is "popular" theme in recent times. Whether is published information correct, or not, is irrelevant alas.

Even in the face of Fdev's prideful and defensive obstinacy... SDC prevailed. No later than just last week Sandro stubbornly stuck to his guns (probably a pair of cute little six-shooter cap plinkers to go with that cowboy hat ;) ) regarding the heat meta, intent to even BUFF the heat output of thermal cascade and shock weapons while insisting that a 120% heat cap was a sufficiently low enough level for heat to not be overpowered. This was after months (going all the way back to the last beta) of attempting to keep this overpowered method intact, in the face of numerous and repeated complaints regarding heat-- many that were thoroughly substantiated with hard data from testing and videos and other excellent player-created resources. Stubborn until the bitter end, he was. But no more.

Finally, the straw that broke the camel's back was Operation SpicyBois. Abruptly just within the last few days, Sandro and his team made changes to the heat meta that were almost identical to those proposed by SDC members directly to them. There were some slight differences but the overall effect was intact. This was a complete 180 from what they had maintained as their beliefs about the heat meta all along. Say it was "planned all along" all you wish... because in the end it really is nothing more than just that... wishing. It's okay though, SDC is happy to make the sacrifices when necessary to get this community the balancing it needs. See you at Sothis :D

Glad to see that the ability to post humorous posts hasn't been lost. :D

From memory there was a post from a Dev / Support, before the event started, informing SDC that heat meta was likely to be changed during 2.2 Beta.

I guess the articles missed that point - on being able to read the Eurogamer article, they didn't miss it - they quoted it.

Found it - it was on reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/51rw58/sdc_commences_operation_spicybois/d7edwc2):

Shame most of the people here didn't seem to see that. I don't really mind SDC, they add to the excitement, sometimes they can be a bit.. nasty but I've never seen them in game as far as I know. It is a bit annoying that this gets articles written about it while other, more positive events don't get mentioned so much at all. Oh well.

Sure.. re-log, mission board, re-log (open), mission board, re-log (private group #1), mission board .. :p
Wait you actually play the game like that? That sounds pretty awful lol

Now... If only we have a similar "protest" over the lack of Crime and Punishment :) ie: As many CMDRs in OPEN being blown apart for the lolz as possible. I can see it now... As CMDRs leave stations, stars being blocked out by the flocks of missiles headed their way dishing out their heat damage... :) And finally after year(s)... Some viable logical Crime and Punishment :)

ps: How do you then protest to get Piracy sorted?

ps: How do you the protest to get the game to orchestrate more logical and intelligent PvP mechanics?

Great idea!
Looks like SDC is major force to help FD to balance the game.
So good job SDC!

P.S.
I personally still think that Elite is more PvE game, but "balancing" improves game for everybody.

Too bad that I am too nice person otherwise I would help SDC to balance Sothis ;D
